  1. I for one am looking forward to TCMs tribute in honor of the late stars. And whether it be one of their best films or least favorites I'm sure they put their best effort into both. I'm also certain the tribute will be in good taste. Mongo

  4. Joe I don't think it could be "Rogan" since the post is too well composed. Besides he didn't mention the movie "Baby Doll" and his favorite Tyrone Power in glorious Technicolor. Mongo
  5. Just read in People magazine that actress Gwyneth Paltrow is all set to play the life of la Dietrich on the big screen. One wonders just how she expects to play the sexy goddess who lived to be 90. I guess anyone who would name their kid Apple can't be all that bad. Mongo
  6. "Angels with Dirty Faces"? *************************************************** Woodstock, GA? I have two good friends who live there by the names of Kay & Bud Eltz.
  7. My souces give Jean Arthur's birth date at October 17th. 1905. Mongo

slappy, the "news" about Stanwyck probably didn't phase me at the time I most likely read something about it and I most likely shrugged it off because I didn't give a damn. When you read so much "garbage" about the stars you begin to tire of it all after a while. I say more power to her. And just think it would take an actress with brass balls like my Stanwyck to play a lesbian in "Walk on the Wild Side". The news hounds must of did back-flips over that move. Mongo
  9. Here are two ladies who deserve rememberance: Glamorous co-star Irene Manning died May 28th. at age 91. She is best remembered for her role as Fay Templeton in "Yankee Doodle Dandy" as she sang Cohan's "Mary" and "45 Minutes from Broadway". Also in "Spy Ship" with Craig Stevens, "The Big Shot" with Bogart, "The Desert Song" with Dennis Morgan, "Shine On, Harvest Moon" with Ann Sheridan, "Make Your Own Bed" with Jane Wyman & Jack Carson. She also performed on the musical stage and toured with her own 4 woman USO show. ********************************************************* Charming actress Trudy Marshall died May 23rd. at age 84. With her great smile she is best remembered as the surviving sister of the five Sullivan brothers in "The Fighting Sullivans". Also in "The Purple Heart", "The Dolly Sisters", "Sentimental Journey", "Dancing Masters" with Laurel & Hardy, "Dragonwyck", "The Fuller Brush Man", "The President's Lady" with Susan Hayward etc. Mother of actress Deborah Raffin. She appeared in many magazines during the 1940s advertising cigarettes. She was the "Old Gold" girl, "Chesterfield" girl and the "Lucky Strike" girl.
  10. HOLY COW! PATH YOU GUESSED IT IN JUST ONE CLUE! CONGRATULATIONS! It's your turn. Only problem is I have 10 wasted clues on my pad. Ugh. Mongo
  11. Thank you for those kind words gwtwbooklover. I do appreciate it and it certainly makes my time spent on the boards worthwhile. Mongo
  12. Something tell's me that Janet Leigh, Van Johnson and Gloria De Haven would be most obliging to have an interview with Robert Osborne. Mongo
  13. The movie is based on a book written by Olive Higgins Prouty. It was Davis who prompted Jack Warner to buy the rights to make the movie with her. Mongo
  14. ...still misty eyed from today's solemn and touching events that took place at the funeral of former actor and President of the United States Ronald Reagan. I just want to take the time to thank Turner Classic Movies for revising their schedule in order to pay tribute to the actor Ronald Reagan. I enjoyed watching some of the movies selected especially "Kings Row", "Santa Fe Trail", "One for the Book" aka "The Voice of the Turtle", "Night Unto Night" (a film I have never seen) and "Desperate Journey". I also heard a humorous story today. While making "Kings Row" and during breaks the great communicator Reagan would hold the cast and crew captive with his stories and knowledge at which time an impressed Robert Cummings piped up and said "You should be President" afterwhich the witty Reagan said "Are you another one saying I'm not a good actor". Thanks again TCM. Mongo

  18. From what I understand ML, all of Mario Lanza's movies are from MGM sudios. He was in a few of them with Kathryn Grayson who was under contract to MGM. I also thought that TCM had all of MGM films in their archives? Mongo

    American Woman

I never heard this news about my idol Stanwyck. I have a few books (biographies) and that lifestyle is never even hinted at. I read that she wore duds to please her husband Robert Taylor since he was an outdoorsman. My, my what's next...Mickey Mouse being gay. Mongo
