I just watched the nice memorial tribute to Ronald Reagan that TCM put together. It's a neat compilation of his film roles ending with the "one for the gipper" scene. Mongo

Lovely Alice Faye is just grand in "Alexander's Ragtime Band" especially when she belts out the title tune. Of course all the other Irving Berlin tunes in the movie are top notch as is Tyrone Power, Don Ameche and Ethel Merman. Mongo

Since Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman had children together during their marriage there was always a "bond" between them. Sadly their daughter Maureen died of cancer a few years ago and sadly Mr. Reagan wasn't aware of it under the circumstances. However Jane Wyman was devastated by their daughters death. Nancy also adored Maureen and attended her funeral. Miss Wyman was approached many times and offered big bucks to write a book about Ronald Reagan and refused. The lady has a lot of class. Mongo

We don't hate you brackenhe for expressing your opinion on the these boards. That's what it's all about. I myself felt comfortable with President Reagan in power as I stated in a prior post. Also was the fact that we had a president with morals something that we didn't have in leadership just prior to our current president four years ago. Mongo

After watching tributes and profiles of the late actor turned politician these past few days I was reminded of all the good he did do for the country as president and was also reminded that it was a comfortable 8 years for me and my family while he served. Best of all his love for his country was catching and made us feel just how great it was to be an American. Ronald Reagan was OK in my book. Mongo

"The Uninvited"?

eddie I don't believe Cary would mind since he was that kind of a gent. Besides I would imagine that he respected Claude Rains for the superior actor that he was. Mongo

Former actor and President of the United States is dead at 93. Although the good looking actor was chided mostly about his role in "Bedtime for Bonzo" about a chimp he actually appeared in some good roles including "Knute Rockne-All American", "Santa Fe Trail", "Desperate Journey", "The Voice of the Turtle", "John Loves Mary", "The Hasty Heart" and "Storm Warning". Of course his finest part came in the movie "Kings Row" where he loses his legs and screams "Where's the rest of me?" which would be the title of a book he once wrote. My sympathy goes out to his wife former actress Nancy Davis Reagan and may he rest in peace. Mongo

At first I was excited about the remake of the wonderful film "The Stepford Wives" until I found out they turned it into a comedy. With Nicole Kidman and Bette Midler I guess I was hoping for dramatics with startling up to date special effects. Oh well. Mongo

Always been a fan of the lovely Eleanor Parker ever since her Oscar nominated role in "Caged" (just great). Only problem was she was up against Bette Davis in "All About Eve" and Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Boulevard". When she was nominated for "Detective Story" she was up against Viven Leigh in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and with her nomination for "Interrupted Melody" up against Anna Magnani for "The Rose Tattoo" and Susan Hayward for "I'll Cry Tomorrow". In any case she deserves to be considered for a special Oscar for her wonderful array of work in films. Mongo

Since I was reminded that my criticism of the movie was a bit harsh without explanation and reminiscent of a few pessimistic posters I wish to clarify my remarks here. SPOILERS: During the first 40 minutes the movie had somewhat held my interest since it had a bit of suspense (the missing kid and all). Then about an hour in I tired of Lynley's histerics and Dullea's blank robotic look at which time I suspected he was looney tunes and it became all too obvious. Alas the tale got tedious for me. I also felt that Laurence Olivier was wasted and Noel Coward (scary looking dude) should have stayed in his apartment. The finale was flaccid and overwrought (I was hoping that Lynley would hit Dullea over the head with the shovel already). Oh! The kid was pretty good and the part where Dullea burns the doll was adequate. All in all the movie for me was dreary and aimless. Mongo

All I can say is that I wasted my time watching this movie. It was ca-ca to say the least. And now I know why it got poor reviews. Mongo
