  1. Hi alex, it's good to see you on the boards again. I notice that you prefer the lighter side of Cary Grant in choosing your favorite 5 films. There are no dramatic roles such as "None But the Lonely Heart", "Notorious", "Only Angels Have Wings", "In Name Only", "Suspicion", "Penny Serenade" etc. I myself prefer a mix (variety) of his roles. Mongo
  2. I believe Leo wanted to know if Cary was interested in some Harold Lloyd videos. Only kiddin'. Mongo
  3. Good to see Barbara Stanwyck on the list but sorry to see that Joan Crawford didn't make the top 5. Mongo
  4. Just a reminder that "Bunny Lake Is Missing" is on tonight at 10:15 for those who are interested. Mongo
  5. Just watched "The Man of a Thousand Faces" with the wonderful James Cagney and enjoyed it all over again. Most important I was reminded of the genius that was Lon Chaney. Mongo
  6. Now your cooking with gas feaito. William Wyler happens to be my very favorite director. No kiddin'. Mongo
  7. Never thought much about her. I suppose she was adequate. Besides she was never if ever mentioned on the boards. Mongo
  8. Just finished watching the Cary Grant documentary and thoroughly enjoyed it. And God bless his ex-wife Betsy Drake who made most of it worth while. Looking good and up-front all the way she was facinating. And of course Eva Marie Saint was on the money when she asks "Who is going to replace Cary Grant?" and says "So far, nada". Mongo
  9. Since I started this thread I didn't make my choice yet. I enjoyed reading the responses here and some of the reasons for the choices which also helped me to decide. I admire both gents but I'm gonna go for Bele Lugosi. After reviewing both their film credits I've enjoyed Lugosi's a bit more and I appreciate his sense of humor as depicted in the movie "Ed Wood" (I have a feeling he was somewhat like that in real life). Also love those low budget movies he made at Monogram Studios. However I'll go on enjoying both their films whenever I get the chance. Long live Karloff & Lugosi! Mongo
  10. I was wondering if Miss O'Hara was prompted by the publisher to put some saucy stuff in the book just to increase sales. I have a feeling thats what Esther Williams was prompted to do and ended up with egg on her face for revealing such nonsense. It's too late now. Mongo
  11. Thank you TCM programmer! Perhaps we can now put an end to all this nonsense and get down to the business at hand...discussing movies. Afterall this is Turner Classic Movies and we could tape plenty of good silent films that the station presents at our leisure and it don't cost us nothing but a blank tape. Mongo
  12. No doubt I have egg on my face ML. Of course it is "Stalag 17". It was close but no cigar. Mongo
  13. moira you figured it out...correctly. Congratulations! My next clue was A heartless hoodlum and we all know who that is. ********************************************************* As far as Victor Mature goes let's not forget his fine performance in "Cry of the City" and he was also good in "I Wake Up Screaming" with Betty Grable. And ya know what? I accept him today as the one and only Samson. Mongo
  14. Correction: The movie "Stalig 17" was directed by Billy Wilder. Mongo
  15. duckdodgers the proper title of the William Holden movie was "Stalig 17"and it was indeed a good movie directed by William Wyler. Mongo
  16. Oops...Let's get started. Clue # 1 New York City
  17. I just read that Sophia Loren (who Grant had a tumultuous affair with) and his ex-wife Dyan Cannon both declined offers to appear on the show. There was no mention of his daughter Jennifer participating either. However in addition to ex-wife Betsy Drake (as I mentioned below) Eva Marie Saint and Grant's widow will speak of the debonair actor. Mongo
