  1. Most of the reviews I read about the movie was awful BUT I will see it for myself anyway. Mongo
  2. It sounds like your movie could be "This Gun for Hire" with Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake (her blonde hair would hang over one side of her face). Mongo
  3. gagman with all this hoopla goin' on, even I'm starting to gag. Mongo
  4. Just a reminder that TCM will be presenting a new documentary Cary Grant:A Class Apart. It debuts on Tuesday June 1st. at 8:00 PM. It's a comprehensive look at the consummate leading man's life. It covers his childhood, a rumored relationship with Randolph Scott, his "LSD treatments" and an interview with ex-wife Betsy Drake whose statement will surprise,if not, shock you. Of course we will also get to enjoy many clips from his wonderful films and why he beacame one of the most admired actor's in the movies. Enjoy. Mongo
  5. wishy I'm sure at one time or another one of Hedy Lamarr's husbands said to her "Drop dead, beautiful"! Perhaps during an argument, a disagreement, a divorce, a settlement etc. Mongo
  6. What are you talking about HKG? I didn't think my response was so harsh. It was just my opinion as it was just your opinion (as I recall) in defense of the great Buster Keaton. My aim was to create a little harmony rather than to "despise" this and "loathe" that. Mongo
  7. dee&daisy666 your post was up-front and to the point and I appreciate that. We here on the TCM boards usually can condone criticism although it sometimes can get a bit boring. Why must we continue to see the words "hate", "despise" and "loathe" when you or leo decide to post. With leo's background in the entertainment field it would be nice to read his views of the many talkies that TCM presents monthly instead of the usual criticism of silent films. We've been there and done that. Your both welcome here (the more the merrier) and it would be nice and rewarding to read some constructive criticism once in a while and perhaps learn something. By the way I heard that Charles Chaplin loved animals. Mongo
  8. I too enjoy many of the films Jennifer Jones made especially "The Song of Bernadette" and as Pearl in "Duel in the Sun". And she was kind enough to show up at the Academy Awards when they presented all the former Oscar winners on one stage (I did notice that she was a bit shakey). However concerning her private life I must cry foul at the devastation she caused her husband Robert Walker while she carried-on with David O. Selznick who she would eventually marry. And frankly I'm satisfied with the performances of Grace Kelly in "The Country Girl" (Oscar winner) and Shirley MacLaine (Oscar winner) who was outstanding in "Terms of Endearment". I cannot visualize any other actresses in these roles. Mongo
  9. No matter the quality "The Enchanted Forest" was a charming family movie and I could watch the wonderful Harry Davenport in anything even if he was covered in polka-dots. Bette Davis adored him. Mongo
  10. bulldog, there is no doubt that you are a true blue Rita Hayworth fan and your info about the lady is refreshing. I feel the same way about Barbara Stanwyck. It's amazing the knowledge you manage to gain about a star when your plum crazy about them. Mongo
  11. Thanks to leo we have a nice thread going here which I find very interesting regarding silent films. I'm certainly learning something here and I appreciate the info. And leo, don't forget,if you ever get the urge to discuss any of the 330 talkies that TCM airs monthly we would be happy to join in. Perhaps it could get as interesting as this topic has become about silent films. Mongo
  12. There are some of my favorites listed here already especially "Saving Private Ryan". However I do want to list a film which I believe is first rate and that is "The Victors" (1963) a sprawling WW2 drama of Allied soldiers on the march through Europe. Mongo
  13. J your on the ball with the correct answer. Congratulations! It's your turn to play. Mongo
  14. Clue # 5 A pollster searching for the co-worker
  15. leo my friend I see that your at it again lambasting the silents. As I mentioned to you before TCM airs 330 talkies a month and since your a screenwriter we welcome you to comment on these films which could be interesting. Why Oh Why won't you share your knowledge with us leo? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Mongo
  16. Honorable mention must go to composer Frank Skinner whose score for "Magnificent Obsession" with Jane Wyman was outstanding. Just a beautiful score. Mr. Skinner scored more than 200 films for Universal (many soaps/tear jerkers) and received 5 Oscar nominations. Mongo

    TALLULAH

Tallulah Bankhead was indeed a character, an unpolished gem, a grand dame. I was miffed when she didn't get an Oscar nomination for her role in "Lifeboat" although she won the New York Film Critics award. She dominated the role of Regina on the stage in "The Little Foxes" and was passed over for the movie although Bette Davis pulled it off. When I think of Tallulah I can't help but recall her dilemma while in the ladies rest room and there was no toilet tissue left on the spool. So she takes out a $10.00 bill and passes it under the stall to another lady and says "Darhhhling, do you have two fives for a ten?" Great stuff from a very witty lady. Mongo
  18. I would also give Richard Brooks a mention. Mongo
  19. Other than "Gilda" I loved Hayworth as "Miss Sadie Thompson" especially when she belted out "The Heat Is On". As far as "acting" goes she was quite good in "Separate Tables". Mongo
  20. There is only one pirate and one pirate only that I could think of to fit this topic and that is the one and only Robert Newton as Long John Silver in "Treasure Island". Mongo
