Actress Carrie Snodgress has died at age 57. She was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in "Diary of a Mad Housewife". She was also effective in the supernatural thriller "The Fury" etc. She was waiting for a liver transplant when she died of heart failure. ********************************************************* Character actress Renata Vanni died at age 94. She is remembered in the film "Westward the Women" as the Italian lady (which she was) who loses her boy on their long trek West. Also in "Trouble Along the Way", "Three Coins in the Fountain", "Pay or Die", "A Patch of Blue" etc. She was also a popular singer in Italy. ********************************************************* Mongo

Funny thing is as hard as Mary Tyler Moore appeared in the movie I found myself sympathizing more with her than I did for the kid who punished himself for not saving his brother. Perhaps I also found her to be the most tragic person in the story. A great performance in deed. Mongo

The 1930s, 40's and 50's have the bulk of the films that I really enjoy especially the film-noirs, melodramas and musicals. Good stuff. Mongo

roldfilm its amazing how you remembered your first films that you ever saw in the theaters. I believe that some of the first films I saw at the movies were "Samson and Delilah", "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein", "The Beast with Five Fingers", "The Eddie Cantor Story", "Mighty Joe Young" etc. Let me know what you think of "The Best Years of Our Lives", "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and "Pickup on South Street" when you find the time. Thanks. Mongo

Clue # 2 A feisty representative

I can't help but think of the parents that Timothy Hutton had in "Ordinary People". Donald Sutherland the compassionate father and Mary Tyler Moore as the less compassionate mother of a boy who survived a drowning while his brother Buck didn't. No doubt that his brother Buck was Tyler's favorite of the two boys which causes most of the turmoil in the family. No matter what I still felt that the mother had love in her heart for the son who survived the tragedy. Mongo

I used to live around the corner from the Myrtle Avenue El train in Brooklyn which sadly to say is no more. It loomed above the street and traveled from Fulton St. (Borough Hall) to Broadway in Brooklyn at which you could switch to another El which took you to the Williamsburg Bridge. Traveling way above the ground was a hoot and needless to say I miss it. I don't believe that there are many El trains left anymore so I appreciate that little spot on TCM when the train whizzes by. By the way the scene is from the movie "Somebody Up There Likes Me" with Paul Newman. Mongo

AFI's 100yrs...100 Songs"-(upcoming June special)
bansi4 replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
Stella your picks are interesting, I have a few of them on my list which I'm still working on. It's tough choosing 100 songs out of 400. There are just 8 of them I'm still diddling with. Mongo
