It's been noted many times that Hattie McDaniel was the first black actress to win an Oscar in a SUPPORTING role. Poitier and Berry were the very first to win in LEAD roles. However what is seldom mentioned is the fact that James Baskett was the first black actor to be given a special Oscar for his performance as Uncle Remus in Disney's "Song of the South" (1946). Mongo

O.K. who is it? Lassie? Rin Tin Tin? Rhubarb? Pete of Our Gang? Francis the talking mule? Asta? Of course there are many other creatures to choose from. Who is your favorite and why? Mongo

Just thought of another gas station scene which takes place in the 1940s/1950s in the movie "Avalon". The mother drops her car at the station to be filled-up so she could pick her son up at the movie theater across the street when all of a sudden a trolly car jumps the tracks and crashes directly into the pumps and of course, mom's car. Great period piece. Mongo

You are correct LTL. Since we've ran the gambit on most popular 'classic' films I figured I'd run a film that is quick becoming one about the gentle giant. Besides it has become evident that the game is faltering a bit and perhaps a few recent popular films might attract more players. In any event it's your turn to play. Mongo

I love trivia like that especially about old movie theaters. I used to haunt the neighborhood (NABES) theaters in my youth and although some of them were falling apart in was still movie heaven to me. Sadly just about all of them are gone now especially after the advent of TV however I still have those memories and some old newspaper movie ads from those theaters. Good stuff. Mongo
