  1. If anyone is taking a beating on this subject it's the ultra beautiful Hedy Lamarr. Enough already. Mongo
  2. Hey Nick, Jennifer Jones was HOT in "Duel in the Sun" aka Lust in the Dust. WOW! Mongo
  3. Ida Lupino? Yes, very sexy in "They Drive By Night" and especially in "Road House". Her voice alone sent shivers up my spine. Mongo
  4. Just watched the movie "Teresa" (1951) with John Ericson and couldn't believe how much he resembled Marlon Brando. For sure they could have played brothers. Mongo
  5. IF THE GORGEOUS HEDY LAMARR WASN'T SEXY IN "SAMSON AND DELILAH" I'LL CUT ALL MY HAIR OFF! Mongo
  6. Ken, of all the oodles of channels I get on my cable TV they DON'T have the Western Channel. Mongo
  7. Lighten up bittert. Every so often we have some fun on the boards and it's not meant to harm or insult anyone. Moira, myself, patypancake and others have been around a while and we kibbitz every so often. Besides we could use a guffaw now a days. "Citizen Kane" is a highly rated and respected film however its just not my cup of Rosebud tea....errr I mean Red Rose. Sorry. Mongo
  8. Muggs could it be from the movie "The Vikings" (1958) with Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis? Mongo
  9. I'm beginning to wonder if dear perfumedame is former member maggie the cat? Mongo
  10. Although I believe Crosby's credentials are a bit superior to Sinatra's I will opt for a tie since both gents were charismatic in their own way. In a cool calm manner both excelled in love ballards although Sinatra exuded more bounce to the ounce with the swing tunes. As far as hit records go they both had their share and we were treated to some dandy stuff. Other than their best films and performances which you already listed I liked "High Society" (1956) since they starred together in the delightful film. Crosby was also good in "Little Boy Lost" (1953); "White Christmas" (1956); "Man on Fire" (1957) and of course the "road" pictures. Sinatra was also effective in "Not As a Stranger" (1955); "A Hole in the Head (1959) and "The Manchurian Candidate" (1962). Indeed two legends in their time. Mongo
  11. Russell's boobs (there real) always had me hooked. And moira your right about those three actors especially Robert Montgomery. As far as Joan Crawford goes she had the perfect face and bone structure. And very sexy blue eyes that spoke for themselves. Mongo
  12. Gee perhaps if I looked up at the ceilings I would have appreciated the film "Citizen Kane" since its one movie I can't get into as many times as I try. Mongo
  13. Yes nedlato she is the same sweet little girl. Mongo
  14. Paty I also watched some of Lloyd's films on Sunday night and I was most impressed with his comedic skills. I couldn't believe how much the comic ran all over the place and especially most of the time in only one take. No wonder he kept himself in good shape and looking trim, prim and proper. He was an icon of comedy indeed. Mongo
  15. There is a movie called "Night Song" with a blind Dana Andrews who plays the piano and Merle Oberon pretending to be blind. I think that is the scenario. Mongo
  16. Here goes a few: ***James Cagney*** ***Henry Fonda*** ***Charles Laughton*** ***John Garfield*** ***Spencer Tracy*** ***Clark Gable*** Not bad at all. Mongo
  17. Here are some of my favorite male characters: Manuel Fidello as played by Spencer Tracy in "Captains Courageous". Hoke Colburn played by Morgan Freeman in "Driving Miss Daisy". Cody Jarrett played by James Cagney in "White Heat". Gypo Nolan played by Victor McLaglen in "The Informer". Tom Joad played by Henry Fonda in "The Grapes of Wrath". Some more ladies: Catherine Sloper played by Olivia de Havilland in "The Heiress". Carrie Watts played by Geraldine Page in "The Trip to Bountiful". Olan played by Luise Rainer in "The Good Earth". Sally McKee played by Jan Sterling in "The High and the Mighty". Good stuff! Mongo
  18. Off the top of my head it's got to be Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The pair of bufoons just crack me up. Also and although she did some drama I get a big kick out of the delightful Marjorie Main in the Ma and Pa Kettle series. There is no one like her. Mongo
  19. I always admired the way that Lana Turner carried herself. So upright, shoulders back and a little wiggle to her walk. It was like she practiced walking with books on her head as they did in old Hollywood. No doubt she was also a gorgeous woman and I love the way she walks. Mongo
  20. No doubt that Merman was a big, bold and brassy presence on the American stage. With pencilled eyebrows, thin determined lips, a shock pf cotton-wool hair and a voice that would not only hit the rafters but would still be travelling when it hit the back of the theatre. As Mama Rose in "Gypsy" she was something else. With pathos,a little humor, that voice and some great lines she was the one and only original stage mother. She brought down the house nitely with the showstoppers "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "Rose's Turn". She was nominated for a Tony Award in in 1958 for "Gypsy" but lost to her friend Mary Martin in "The Sound of Music". It should have been a tie. As hard as Rosalind Russell tried she just didn't have the moxey and the voice to do justice to the part. It's criminal that she was passed over for the movie role since they didn't feel that her name had boxoffice clout. I'm certain that they realized their error when it was to late. Just to think that we would have had Merman on celluloid in "Gypsy" forever is wishful thinking. Mongo
  21. At least three French films that I recall fondly are: "Vie devant soi, La" (Madame Rosa) with the outstanding actress Simone Signoret. "Parapluies de Cherbourg, Les" (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) with the lovely Catherine Deneuve. "Un homme et une femme" (A Man and a Woman" with Anouk Aimee. Mongo
  22. One woman that slipped my mind but has to be mentioned is the grand character actress Hope Emerson who was evil personafied as Matron Evelyn Harper in the gritty film "Caged". Delightfully wicked indeed. Mongo
  23. Desmond if you ever had the chance to see the original "Gypsy" on Broadway with the fabulous Ethel Merman you would throw popcorn at the movie version. Mongo
  24. I have to pick the one and only Bette Davis as Jane Hudson in "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?". Her character of the fading movie star was outrageously wonderful. Close behind is another fading movie star and that is Miss Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond in "Sunset Boulevard". Both these gals were TNT terrific! I have to give some thought about my favorite male characters. Mongo
