  1. The name of the eerie Hitchcock episode is "An Unlocked Window" starring Annette O'Toole as Stella and Bruce Davison as Betty Ames/Baker. Aired in 1985 it was a remake of an original episode from Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Mongo
  2. gina I'm glad that you discovered the little gem that is "HONDO". John Wayne gives a fine reserved performance in this rousing western and Geraldine Page was a perfect match for him. By the way his dog in the film was played by Lassie. By the way Mr. Wayne should be alive today to see some of the "political neanderthals" that we got running around Hollywood. I believe we know who they are. Mongo
  3. Sam although my very favorite score is from "Gone With the Wind" here are some other memorable scores: "Now, Voyager" (1942) Max Steiner "The Song of Bernadette" (1943) Alfred Newman "Since You Went Away" (1944) Max Steiner "The Heiress" (1949) Aaron Copeland "The High and the Mighty" (1954) Dimitri Tiomkin Mongo
  4. There is only one "King of the Monsters" and that is the one and only original "KING KONG" (1933) who turns 70 years old this year. Mongo
  5. Oh my God! Can this be true? And all these years I've been hiding from what I thought was the one and only Godzilla movie made in 1956. Egads I have to head for the hills. Pronto! Mongo
  6. onlael you've asked this question once before under the topic "What is that movie" and I answered your question. The name of the film is "If a Man Answers" with Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin. Mongo
  7. I'm thinking it could be a delightful film called "Margie" with Jeanne Crain. Mongo
  8. coffeedan I don't believe that William Holden received a special Oscar. It was Miss Stanwyck who received the special Award and she said something like "you always hoped that I would get one of these someday and here it is my golden boy". Just thinking that moment in Oscar history brings tears to my eyes since both of them are gone now. Mongo
  9. Spencer all that good stuff you listed and not a mention of Irish coleen Maureen O'Hara. She appears in one of my favorite John Ford films "The Long Gray Line" (1955) with Tyrone Power. Another Ford gem is "The Informer" with a brilliant performance from Victor McLaglen. Happy Saint Patricks Day to all. Mongo
  10. gmfiz the lead in clip of the El train is from the movie "Somebody Up There Likes Me" with Paul Newman. Mongo
  11. One of my favorite Oscar moments was when Geraldine Page won the award for Best Actress of 1985. After many nominations it was a joy to see her finally win for her brilliant portrayal of Carrie Watts in "The Trip to Bountiful". I recall she was delayed in getting to the stage since she had her shoes off and once there she stumpled up the steps as F. Murray Abraham grabbed her hand. She was indeed overjoyed as she generated her appreciation and it was a fitting tribute to a fine actress who only a few years later would die of a heart attack. Mongo
  12. Moira another beautifully filmed outdoor movie is "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" with Henry Fonda and Sylvia Sidney. Mongo
  13. lolmsted your predictions may be right although I wouldn't rule out Julianne Moore in "Far From Heaven". She won quite a few awards already for which is considered to be a fine performance. I will be rooting for Diane Lane who I thought gave a brilliant performance in "Unfaithful". Mongo
  14. Just watched the movie "Captains of the Clouds" (1942) on TCM is glorious old Hollywood Technicolor. For the first time I got a good look at the mop of red hair on James Cagney since most of his early films were in black and white. It made it all the better and fittingly since he played a feisty Irishman. Mongo
  15. bing I believe the line was "I'd love to kiss ya but I just washed my hair". Mongo
  16. Bravo patypancake! Your so right about that munchkin Martin Sheen who reminds me of an undertaker. No doubt that he's taking his job as the president on "The Left Wing" too seriously. He should keep his piehole shut along with Jessica Lange, George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, Streisand etc. None of us want war however we support our men and women in uniform while the comments from these nitwits tend to make them feel that their efforts for the protection of our country are in vain. Thank goodness a recent poll indicated that close to 80% of America ignore them. I'm also hoping that "Chicago" makes a clean sweep at the Oscars ...except for best director who should go to Martin Scorsese. Mongo
  17. Well done Spencer! It looks like you hit the bullseye on your predictions however the Oscars always seem to throw in a monkey wrench in at least one of the catergories. Considering its the 75th year of the awards I'm looking forward to getting a look at some of the past winners showing up (hopefully). Although with the war pending the show could also be cancelled. Mongo
  18. Paty it seems like we were down this road once before however I'm always up for some fun. ....and so the other ship crashes into shore hitting some cocoa nut trees and out falls Dorothy Lamour and Jon Hall. Once on their feet they help the passengers off the ship including Billy Haines who wanted to know where Lamour bought her sarong. Of all people Garbo suddenly appears with wishes of being ALONE on the Island. All of a sudden Billy Gilbert comes floating by with Thelma Todd sitting on his belly paddling to shore. As other celebrities descend on the Island a typhoon is whipping up from the ocean and.... OK someone take over. Mongo
  19. Oscar grievance: Just recently watched "Witness for the Prosecution" and was reminded that Marlene Dietrich didn't get a Best Actress nomination for her stunning performance although that same year Lana Turner got one for "Peyton Place". Am I missing something? Also couldn't believe that Bogart didn't get a nomination for "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" while Dan Dailey was nominated for something called "When My Baby Smiles at Me"? And could you believe that Cagney was skipped over for "White Heat"? Dorothy McGuire for "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"? And get this neither Ida Lupino or Edward G. Robinson were ever nominated for an Oscar!!! Grievances anyone? Mongo

    Musicals

I would say Dennis Morgan crooning "A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody" surrounded by beauties on a spinning staircase in "The Great Ziegfeld" (1936). Mongo
  21. While watching "Smart Money" (1931) on TCM today there was a funny line: Edward G. Robinson to a discruntled James Cagney "Your face is so long I'll charge you two prices for a shave". Mongo
  22. Great stuff basilfawlty. They don't make em like that anymore. Mongo
  23. There are so many to choose from. *Ann Sheridan *Bette Davis (why not?) *Joan Crawford *Betty Grable *Ida Lupino *Jane Wyman *Maureen O'Hara *Joan Leslie *Linda Darnell *Tyrone Power (he was pretty) Mongo
  24. I'll give it a shot at it with one of my favorite actresses Joan Crawford: Favorite word....................Star Least favorite word..............Dirt Turn on..........................Pepsi Cola Turn off.........................Wire Hangers Sound I love.....................Applause Sound I hate.....................Gable passing gas Curse word.......................Mommie F----- Favorite profession..............Head of Daycare Center Least favorite profession........Bette Davis' hair dresser I would like to hear God say.....Great shoulder pads Joan Mongo
