  1. Patty Pancake you are a gem. It's always a pleasure to read your post. I too am a Bette Davis fan from way back when. The great diva impressed me most as the cold blooded Leslie Crosby in "The Letter". Also at the top of my list is "The Little Foxes", "The Great Lie", "Now, Voyager", "All About Eve", "In This Our Life", "Old Acquaintance", "Dead Ringer" and "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?". Of course I'll watch anything with the great movie star. Puff...puff.
  2. Gollumga there is a thread (topic) "Kisses on Film" that is currently running. Of course many who posted linked the kiss to a romantic scene. The topic in under "Your Favorites" so you can check it out. Mongo

Well said udpert and I'll drink to that. He certainly was superior at his craft. Mongo
  4. My favorite is still the line Thelma Ritter blurts out in the dressing room "What a story, everything but the bloodhounds snappin' at her rearend". Also at the end of the film when Bette Davis says something about where Eve's award oughta be. Great stuff!
  5. I have to confess that I still watch AMC. How could I resist such films as "Sunset Boulevard", "The Grapes of Wrath", "Picnic", "Peyton Place", "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", "The Ox-Bow Incident", "My Darling Clemtine" etc. As a true blue movie buff I can put up with the lousy commercials.
  6. After watching "The Little Princess" with Shirley Temple I couldn't help but praise grand character actress Mary Nash. She gave little Shirley a hard time and again in "Heidi". She was delightfully eveil. Also liked her as the Queen in the Maria Montez camp classic "Cobra Woman". She was quite a character.
  7. Speaking of "The Front Page" the lovely leading lady Mary Bryan who played Peggy Grant died in December at the age of 96. She also played the daughter of W.C. Fields in the hilarious "Man on the Flying Trapeze". She left the screen in 1947 and led the good life. Oh....by the way Nick a little hair never hurt anyone.
  8. My first choice would have to be "Double Indemnity" since she was the ultimate cold blooded **** on wheels. It was a stunning performance! Of course she was no slouch in "Titanic", "Stella Dallas", "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers", "The Lady Eve", "My Reputation", "Sorry, Wrong Number", "Lady of Burlesque" and so many others. Of course her TV triumph was "The Thorn Birds" in which she was brilliant. That Stanwyck is something else!
  9. Don't forget the Dead End Kid's marathon on Wednesday May 22nd. in the evening on TCM. Six of their seven films together will be televised. The one exception is "On Dress Parade" (1939) which was their last as a group.
  10. Right-on Moviejoe! Mongo

Patypancake? The **** is back with a hilarious moniker and it sure is a pleasure to have you invade the boards again. I may be able to help you get into TCM and log on to post again without frustration. See my "Welcome back Shane..." on the "Information, Please" thread. I am attempting to help all former gang members to return. Mongo
  15. Yeah sure Joe and maybe it was also a little thing called the budget.

    Musicals

Uh-oh I just read about the Boxoffice receipts of this past weekend and "Chicago" only pulled in 5 million. I'm wondering if the public is still shy of musicals although heaven knows we can use them right now. It's a wonder since the movie got 8 Golden Globe nominations which should boost its appeal. I would hate to see this movie fall flat.
  17. I haven't seen a tribute to the late director George Roy Hill yet. I believe his Oscar winning film "The Sting" was shown on TCM.
  18. Summchic the only film that comes to mind of what you describe is "Bird of Paradise". However it didn't take place in a town it took place on an Island in the Pacific. There were two versions made. One in the 1930's with Joel McCrea and Dolores Del Rio and the other in 1951 with Louis Jordan and Debra Paget which was is color.

Sandy I just read a review of "Chicago" here in Florida and the critic gave it five stars ***** which is their highest rating. Also he raved about Zeta-Jones performance more so than the other players. He was also pleased with Gere's tap dancing and admired Zellweger's talents as well. He called the film "fabulous and spectacular"! You can be sure I will see it real soon. Mongo
  20. Mdamron I have good news for you. Turner Classic Movies has scheduled "The Bad and the Beautiful" for Wednesday January 28th. at 4PM est. A perfect time for you to enjoy it.
  21. Alix I didn't forget about you and I read your most recent post about having one of the four services. I'm waiting to hear from my computer friend since he can let me know in layman terms just how to explain it to you and to make it easier for you to post once again. Mongo
  22. Alix there is one person that I know of who will be at the Clara Bow screening and that is Jery son. She is a New York City gal and I wouldn't be surprised if she rides the big ball up till the midnight hour. HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL! Mongo
  23. Alix I can understand your frustration since I also went nuts trying to log in. I finally called a friend who is sort of a computer wizard and he did the trick. It is kind of a complicated procedure where I had to log into Google. First of all and believe it or not you must have either: AOL, Compuserve 2000, AIM or Netscape in order to log in and post. And you STAY logged in without getting kicked out. Let me know if you have one of those services and I will do my best to explain the procedure. Mongo
  24. Kintasha your movie sounds like it could be "I'll Be Seeing You" (1944) which also starred Joseph Cotten and Shirley Temple as Rogers' sister.
  25. P.S. Not to forget Maureen Stapleton's heartbreaking performance in "Lonelyhearts". She was also nominated for an Oscar in a supporting role. Mongo
