  1. bkohatl once again your post are very touching regarding actors that have died at a young age (referring also to the Jonathan Brandis tribute you posted on 12/21/03).

We have discussed Mr. Driscoll before on the boards and realize what a special child actor he was and he certainly deserved his special juvenile Oscar for his performances in "The Window" and Disney's "So Dear To My Heart".

A question I have is since he was buried at Potters Field in 1968 is his buriel spot still evident in order to remove his remains to California? After 35 it appears impossible especially after so many other bodies were buried there since. How is he identified?

Also I didn't realize that his wife had died too. Didn't he have children? Are they participating in order to have their father's remains shipped back home?

Since this has been going on for many years now what seems to be the biggest snag in obtaining his remains?

Since you didn't mention his mom I assume she is still alive. It's a wonder why the New York Department of Corrections don't just cremate the bodies of those poor unclaimed souls and place them in urns in a desirable building instead in the ground at that forlorn place Hart's Island aka Potter's Field.

In any event I wish you luck with your book about Driscoll. I did read once that former child actor Russ Tamblyn was also writing a book about Driscoll however it never seemed to materialize.

S.Z. 'Cuddles' Sakall in just about anything he did especially his bit with Bogart in "Thank Your Lucky Stars".

When stella wants to laugh she pops in "The Ghost Breakers" and when I want to laugh I pop in "The Sunshine Boys". It just cracks me up.

  4. loliteblue the book is titled "Marie Dressler The Unlikeliest Star" by Betty Lee in hardcover 1997. Over 300 pages it has some nice pictures published by the University Press of Kentucky. I don't recall the cost since I bought it from a book club. Check out Amazon.com and Ebay. You may be surprised at some of the innuendos

regarding Miss Dressler. Her association with Chaplin was a good one. Although he didn't attend her funeral he sent flowers.

The comedies with Polly Moran were full length features and should be in the TCM library. Perhaps during one of their tributes to her they will show them.

  6. loliteblue the title of the Marie Dressler movie is "Emma" a favorite of mine which I listed in my post below.

She only made about 30 films of which only a few are on VHS. "Min and Bill" and "Anna Christie" are on VHS and are shown on TCM. "Tillie's Punctured Romance" with Charlie Chaplin is available on DVD.

She also made some hilarious comedies with Polly Moran which are "Reducing", "Politics" and "Prosperity". They were a good team.

I'll glance through her biography and let you know what she thought of Chaplin who I believe only appeared with her in just one film.

  7. I also adore Marie Dressler especially in "Min and Bill" and "Emma". I have her biography which is very interesting and it's too bad for us that she died so soon after her great success. I could imagine the goodies that were in store for us had she lived longer.

I also agree that she was priceless in "Dinner at Eight".

  8. Today on the Happy Birthday thread I listed comic Eddie Bracken which brought a discussion of how he made us laugh. Since we seldom mention comedy stars that made us laugh (a difficult feat indeed) how about giving them the spotlight once again.

Who makes ya laff and in which films?

I'll start off with my favorites Laurel & Hardy especially in "Saps at Sea", "Block-Heads", "Way Out West", "Sons of the Desert" and "Our Relations".

  9. Your so right about Eddie Bracken. He was a first class act and a nice guy. He was a befuddled comic genius.

It's a wonder that we don't mention him on the boards.

As a matter of fact we seldom mention comedy stars those performers that actually make us laugh. Huh.

  10. moira you weren't being unfair at all. The object of the game is to stump us and to get our brains crackin'.

The clue about cocaine snagged me since we think of it as something more modern but little did we know.

    Ok on with the game.
