  1. My least favorite is MGMs "Hollywood Revue of 1929" with Jack Benny, John Gilbert, Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Lionel Barrymore, Marion Davies etc. It creaks.

My favorite is the original "That's Entertainment" with fabulous numbers from some of MGMs grandest musicals introduced by some top notch stars. A nostalgic look back at what was certainly the very best in entertainment.

  3. Instead of feeling superior to other stars perhaps Jane Powell feels inferior and hence the attitude.

She herself said that she didn't think she was anything special on the screen when interviewed by Robert Osborn.

Also she may be tired of questions about "Royal Wedding" and Fred Astaire. Remember she was second or third choice for the role.

Perhaps she would like to be asked about HER roles such as in "Seven Brides for Seven Broters", "Hit the Deck",

    "Small Town Girl" etc.

I can't imagine why she would attend such gatherings if only to be miserable.

  5. Your bringing up the lovely Jane Powell reminds me of an interview she had with Robert Osbourn on TCM. It surprised me how modest she was and didn't think she was all that on the silver screen and yet in my opinion she certainly was. When Osborne mentioned some of her co-stars it brought tears to her eyes and she went on to

    praise them endearingly.

What would "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" be without her? She was our Millie and was a breath of fresh air.

Also enjoyed her in "Luxury Liner", "Two Weeks with Love", "Nancy Goes to Rio" and "Royal Wedding" with Fred Astaire. And not to forget "Hit the Deck".

That Jane Powell is something, something special.

  6. Stella I never saw the movie although I heard about it.

Bartholomew was a splendid child star especially in "David Copperfield" and Captains Courageous".

By the way did you watch "Bird of Paradise"? I like the score and of course the gorgeous Debra Paget who had to jump in a volcano. Ugh.
