It sounds like it could be the movie "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" (1960) with David Niven. In the movie they have four boys and move from the city to the country. It revolves around the entertainment world since Niven is a drama critic.

Reg I agree with you. Had she lived into the 1940s and 1950s I believe she would have had a blast in more comedy roles as well as in drama. And capped in off in some delicious character roles. Alas we'll never know.
