  2. What more can we say guitarmark? We sat and watched with an ache in our hearts as each of the late performers faded in and out on the TV screen, some greats, near greats and those that didn't quite catch the brass ring.

I recall we discussed the "In Memoriam" in detail due to the song that accompioned the piece which I believe is the same song for 2003.

Always a well done segment on TCMs part which most members do appreciate.

May they all rest in peace.

  3. I recall a similar discussion that we had on the boards about a year ago regarding the movie "Babes in Arms" (1939) with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland.

Busby Berkeley staged a minstrel number with Rooney and Garland in black face that was an absolute jaw dropper.

There were those that thought the number should be deleted after TCM aired it while others praised it.

Some said if we didn't have numbers like that on film, we would never know how it was back then.

The number was wonderful and Rooney magnificent strutting his stuff to "Waiting for the Robert E. Lee".

Could be one of the reasons he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar in the film.

  8. Pallete was also a bigot. While making a movie with Preminger a scene called for him to be seated at a table with a black actor. When he was directed to do so he refused saying he wouldn't be seated next to a ni--er.

He was fired and when word spread of the incident his career went down hill from there.

  10. An appealing, pretty actress by the name of Madlyn Rhue died last week at the age of 68.

She appeared in the films "Operation Peticoat" with Cary Grant, "The Ladies' Man" with Jerry Lewis, "A Majority of One" with Roz Russell and was hilarious as Secretary Schwartz in a scene with Spencer Tracy in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

She also starred and guest starred in close to 100 TV shows. Unfortunately she contacted MS in the 1970s which progressed throughout the 1980s and '90s. At a time when she was in a jam concerning health coverage it was Angela Lansbury who came to the rescue. Since she had guested on "Murder, She Wrote" once before Miss Lansbury found out if she was a regular on the show she would have Health Insurance which was a blessing to Miss Rhue.

Thus she played character Jean O'Neal on the series.

In October Miss Rhue entered the Motion Picture and Television Fund Campus Hospital where she died on December 16th. She was indeed a fighter to the very end.

  11. I read this on the People page recently.

Hope Lange was once asked how she would sescribe working with Bette Davis in "Pocketful of Miracles" and with Joan Crawford in "The Best of Everything" she replied "Formidable", then muttered under her breath, "bit--es".

Also on this thread her age is given at 70 while many other sources say 72.
