  1. One of my favorite blonde bombshells is Betty Grable who also had those million dollar legs. She was a sweet and appealing entertainer (although not a great singer) in all those 20th Century-Fox films that she made. Paired with Tyrone Power, John Payne, Dan Dailey (my dad was in the service with him), Victor Mature in an unusal drama "I Wake up Screaming" and other leading men she was one of a kind.

Another gorgeous blonde is co-star Marion Martin who spiced up many "B" films and some "A" productions. She appeared in "The Big Street" with Lucille Ball and in one of my favorites "Lady of Burlesque" with Stanwyck. Not only was she a swell lookin' dame, she was BUILT (naturally). Stars like that are hard to come by these days.

  2. Addition:

Not to forget Noel Neill who celebrates #83 today.

On screen from the 1940s she is the one and only Lois Lane in the Superman serial and TV shows.

I believe she has the distinction of appearing with all the actors who ever played the super hero including Christopher Reeve.

  4. Perhaps I'm missing something here but I found the movie

"Titantic" '97 quite spellbinging. The visual and special effects were astounding to say the least.

The film was more accurate than the previous two versions since more was learned about the sinking of the ship thru new techniques to reach the area under the sea.

I find it amazing that the ship broke in half before sinking an unknown fact in the prior films.

As far as the ca-ca-poo stuff you can be sure that adult situations were taking place on board whereas Hollywood created their own situations.

I doubt if we will ever learn the extent of how the passengers and crew reacted to the excitement of sailing on the unsinkable vessel and the devistation that took place during the sinking.

  6. feaito, Eleanor Parker has always been a favorite of mine especially for her performances in "Caged", "Detective Story", "Three Secrets" and "Home from the Hill" among others. A beautiful woman indeed and most certainly a talented one.

It's hard to believe that she is now 81 and retired.

  7. I recall seeing a string of "Blondie" films last year on either AMC or TCM. Most of them were harmless fluff although Miss Singleton was a perfect "Blondie" and Arthur Lake ditto as Dagwood Bumstead.

The situations were true to the popular comic strip which is still running in the funny papers.

  8. Actually I only saw bits n' pieces of both "The Sound of Music" and "Spartacus". I also regret watching "Platoon",

perhaps it was just too realistic.

By the way one movie that wasted my time was "Evita" although the score was just fine.

  10. I don't believe I mentioned anything about someone getting the boot in my post just because they didn't see a certain movie. Gee **** guys I was just surprised Path didn't see "Now, Voyager" a movie supreme of the 1940s.

By the way I never did get to see "The Sound of Music" and "Spartacus". Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh shame on me

    Perhaps someday.

  11. Dear Bess was probably paid "scale" which is bottom of the barrel in Hollywood. I would imagine it was still enough to live comfortably on especially during those years in which she made the films.

Bess is in the awards scene in "All About Eve" congratulating Eve on winning her award. She was actually a handsome and elegant woman mostly in evening wear.

  12. Gee Path I must admit that I'm surprised at the some of the films you haven't seen on the list.

"Now, Voyager"? That film is a movie buffs passport.

Just be sure you do have Kleenex if you ever get to see the 1959 version of "Imitation of Life".

Come to think of it I almost shed a tear when poor E.T. was lying limp in a moat close to death.

    Mongo

  13. Oh my gosh Path your post reminded me that I did see E.T. on the list and after I counted the my top 50 list posted below I only have 49 films listed.

E.T. came in at #8 and the Kleenex moment is:

"Sure, the little guy comes back from the dead and finds his way home, but still, watching him flatline is one serious ouuuuuuuuuch."
