Spencer that was a great deal of trivia info and very interesting. About all those fabulous landmarks and houses change is inevertable. When I visit my old neighborhoods in Brooklyn it breaks my heart to see how much it changed throught the years.
By the way we will be visiting Brooklyn soon and also the graves of our relatives in Greenwood Cemetery where the Wizard of Oz himself Frank Morgan is buried.

Judy that certainly is a fine accessment of Da Bingle. He sure was Mr. Entertainment since he practically did all aspects of show business.
Of course his recording of "White Christmas" is a classic and I believe the best selling record of all time.
He was wonderful in "Going My Way" and "The Country Girl"as well as in all those road films with Bob Hope.
The only fly in the ointment is his role as lousy father and husband during first marriage.

In all fairness to Mr. Wayne he did attempt to enlist in the service and was rejected due to an ear malady. From what I understand he was crushed by the rejection and therefore visited troops and was very charitable in giving to the cause.

The name of the eerie Hitchcock episode is "An Unlocked Window" starring Annette O'Toole as Stella and Bruce Davison as Betty Ames/Baker.
Aired in 1985 it was a remake of an original episode from Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

gina I'm glad that you discovered the little gem that is "HONDO". John Wayne gives a fine reserved performance in this rousing western and Geraldine Page was a perfect match for him. By the way his dog in the film was played by Lassie.
By the way Mr. Wayne should be alive today to see some of the "political neanderthals" that we got running around Hollywood. I believe we know who they are.

"Since You Went Away" (1944) Max Steiner
"The Heiress" (1949) Aaron Copeland

There is only one "King of the Monsters" and that is the one and only original "KING KONG" (1933) who turns 70 years old this year.

Oh my God! Can this be true? And all these years I've been hiding from what I thought was the one and only Godzilla movie made in 1956. Egads I have to head for the hills. Pronto!

onlael you've asked this question once before under the topic "What is that movie" and I answered your question.
The name of the film is "If a Man Answers" with Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin.

I'm thinking it could be a delightful film called "Margie" with Jeanne Crain.

coffeedan I don't believe that William Holden received a special Oscar. It was Miss Stanwyck who received the special Award and she said something like "you always hoped that I would get one of these someday and here it is my golden boy". Just thinking that moment in Oscar history brings tears to my eyes since both of them are gone now.

Spencer all that good stuff you listed and not a mention of Irish coleen Maureen O'Hara. She appears in one of my favorite John Ford films "The Long Gray Line" (1955) with Tyrone Power. Another Ford gem is "The Informer" with a brilliant performance from Victor McLaglen.
Happy Saint Patricks Day to all.

One of my favorite Oscar moments was when Geraldine Page won the award for Best Actress of 1985. After many nominations it was a joy to see her finally win for her brilliant portrayal of Carrie Watts in "The Trip to Bountiful".
I recall she was delayed in getting to the stage since she had her shoes off and once there she stumpled up the steps as F. Murray Abraham grabbed her hand.
She was indeed overjoyed as she generated her appreciation and it was a fitting tribute to a fine actress who only a few years later would die of a heart attack.

lolmsted your predictions may be right although I wouldn't rule out Julianne Moore in "Far From Heaven".
She won quite a few awards already for which is considered to be a fine performance. I will be rooting for Diane Lane who I thought gave a brilliant performance in "Unfaithful".
