In all fairness Katharine Hepburn did give us some fine performances. A few that I relish are in "The African Queen"; "Summertime" and "Guess Whos Coming to Dinner".
She held a record 12 Oscar Nominations util recently when Meryl Streep broke her spell with a record 13.
She still remains the only actress to win a record four
Academy Awards.
Bless that 95 year old thesbian.

Three on a match:
*Shapely blond actress Carole Landis came to prominence as a cave girl in "One Million B.C." with Victor Mature.
Although she was many times married she managed to get involved with the much married Rex Harrison who strung her along with false promises until she took her own life on a Fourth-of-July weekend in 1948. After that he was tagged Sexy Rexy. Ugh.
*Robert Walker was the boy next door type who dearly loved his wife Jennifer Jones. She got involved with David O. Selznick which broke Walker's heart. After the divoce he got into booze and scraps with the law. He died in 1951 after making two films with his finest performances "Strangers on a Train" and "My Son John".
*Beautiful and fragile Gail Russell seemed to have it all after she starred in "The Uninvited" and snagged hunky hubby Guy Madison. For some reason she got into the booze and it all came tumbling down. She died alone in 1961.
May they all rest in peace.

nick, just to set the record straight Veronica Lake didn't work at a truck stop. She was a cocktail waitress in a lounge of a downtown New York hotel.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Frankie Darro "didn't"
end up living like a bum in an alley.

Vergipoo, there is a topic devoted to "The High and the Mighty" currently on one of the forums. It seems the film is tied up in litigation with Batjac which John Wayne himself was involved with which is the reason it is not on VHS or DVD. We are waiting patiently for it.

Just for the hell of it and sheer novelty my Valentine film pick is the hilarious "Harold and Maude" with the delightful Ruth Gordon. A different kind of love story if there ever was one.

caligirl, Shelley Winters was Star of the Month just a few months ago. TCM seldom has supporting players as their Star of the Month such as Thelma Ritter, Agnes Moorehead etc. however such stars are usually give a birthday tribute with a day of their films.

Just watched "Tomorrow is Forever" with the lovely and talented Claudette Colbert and I'm happy to report that the lady has a lovely neck.

Good news! Since this will be the Golden Jubilee of the Academy Awards (75 years) rumors are that surviving stars of the past will be present at the Oscars. Plans are now being made to contact those former winners and nominees.
It was such a treat the last time they all gathered on one stage and the highlight of the show with Shirley Temple getting the biggest ovation.
Believe it or not there are quite a few past performers still with us.
And remember the movie "King Kong" (1933) will be 70 years old and Fay Wray lives!

The Oscar nominations are out and the fabulous musical "CHICAGO" leads the pack with 13 nominations.
The only sour note is that all the major players got nominated except the tap dance kid Richard Gere. It seems like he got rooked since he recently won a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the film. Go figure.

Moira, for me the late and lovely Alexis Smith came to life late in her career in a film called "Once is Not Enough" (1974) playing a lesbian and in "Casey's Shadow" (1977) with Walter Matthau.
By the way she won a Tony Award for her performance in "Follies".

mrkgeegee, Sarandon may have those Bette Davis eyes but she'll have to improve her resume before another song regarding Davis' blinkers are concerned.

I believe I saw "No Way Out" on AMC a few years ago. It's a film with plenty of racial tension and Richard Widmark in his usual mean spirited role. Sidney Poitier lent good support to the drama as the brunt of Widmark's antics.
Linda Darnell was her beautiful soulful self.
Its a film with plenty of food for thought although I don't believe its in the TCM library.

Eve Arden was a gem indeed and queen of the wisecracks with a first rate delivery. She was also on target in "My Reputation" with Stanwyck, "My Dream is Yours", "Goodbye My Fancy", "The Voice of the Turtle" and "Anatomy of a Murder".
Moira is looks like slim pickings on the boards today. It seems that the old reliables are not getting through.
What a shame.

Moira your observations are right on target about those "relatives" chosen to play opposite each other and they don't even look alike.
By the way if you want to see a more factual account of "East of Eden" try to catch the 1981 miniseries with a mesmerizing performance by Jane Seymour (mother) who is wicked to the hilt. With more hours to spare there is much more here that is true to the Steinbeck book.

Speaking of song bird Kathryn Grayson today the lady celebrates her 81st birthday. It's time for an interview with TCM's Robert Osborne before its to late.
How about "mother/daughter" Kathryn Grayson and Terry Moore?

papabear it sounds as though you have a real collectors item on your hands. I never realized that Garfield ever made a childrens recording. Be sure to check this out carefully since it should be worth something especially to Garfield fans. I wonder if ebay could help you with more info.
