  3. I don't know if it's the Sauvignon Blanc but now I see these little "tags" under each posting in the threads---what the heck are "tags"? Right now they are: "alvin" "amc" "cowboys" "lauzi" "republic" "rogers" "roy" "trailer" "trigger" "tube" "videos" "york" "you" ????????
  4. Kim----I don't know if it's because I had a little bit of wine with my lunch but when I watched that YouTube segment by Lauzi I was so moved by it! I think Warners or whoever has the rights to Sgt. York ought to commission her to use that for there promotionals! It's marvelous!! Or am I tipsy? Tipsy or not, Gary gave such an incredible performance. The dying scene on the battlefield with Thomas Mitchell, how moving.
  5. Angie, I forgot completely about SEVEN DAYS LEAVE---that movie is so touching. I mean, how many times have the movies shown such an interesting relationship (I mean, a positive one) between an old woman and a young man? It's really extraordinary. Kim - Hee! I'm with you about the new format---it stinks so far but hopefully they will iron it out. Theresa---You really seem to be on fire with the pictures!!! I love the one where he looks like a gangster with the gun and the one from Vera Cruz where he's giving the flirty eye to the Mexican actress....naughty naughty!!!

  7. The paragraph codes are the letters "nobr" between brackets that we formerly needed to insert at the beginning and end of every paragraph and photograph in order to separate them. Now it looks like that will no longer be necessary.
  8. I think they still have bugs to work out since they installed the new "ignore member" button. It's changed the way we see the lineup of the forums, there is no "preview" before you post, no need to separate pictures with paragraph codes and I noticed, too, that after you post a reply, the thread takes you back to the first page, instead of the most recent.
  9. Eek! Well, at least Gary showed up...but I guess we no longer need to insert the paragraph codes....
  10. [nobr]That seemed to work. Another thing I just noticed is we no longer can preview our posts----I always do that when I post pictures...uh oh....I wonder if I can still post pictures....let me see, here goes: [/nobr] [nobr] [/nobr]
  11. OK....here we go...I just *love* Gary Cooper.
  12. I have a question, since they "updated" the forum I can't seem to get the underline, bold and italicize options to work for me anymore. When I highlight a word and click on the B, I or U button nothing happens....I notice that it is working for you ladies, has something changed? About Gary's timeless appeal, it evidently is still well recognized since Esquire named him in their "best dressed men ever" list just recently.
  13. Well, at least you have reassured me that TCM does have And Now Tomorrow, I was afraid it was in AMC-limbo, never to possibly reappear. I will start to pester them with "suggest a movie" posts.
  14. The only thing this book "exposes" is what garbarge the writer is made of...bah!! What a shame and it ought to be a crime to libel the dead, especially when his children are still alive to suffer. Fortunately, there are accurate biographies easily found on Ebay or Amazon, written by people who actually knew the man, including his wife Kay Spreckles and his (and Carole Lombard's) personal business manager, Jean Garceau. They tell the true story.
  15. Hi FG---I don't know if something's happened to the board setup but I cannot see any of the pictures you recently posted....only the URL tags.
  16. >>>That's so cool about the play!! Man I'd love to see it checks bank account and realizes there's not enough scratch to pay for a trip to New Zealand. Here's a pic of the guy playing Gary. I do wonder though how they're gonna pass a 35 year old Samoan guy off as a 52 year old white guy . Maybe he's a really, really good actor - ha!<<<< If it continues to do well, it might make the jump to London's West End or possibly Broadway. Then I say a "group outing" to see this play and give our reviews is a mandate! I can't imagine how this young looking guy can pull it off, but then Samoan people can look ageless for a long time and he obviously didn't inherit any features from his "father", Gary Cooper, lol!

  18. I'd like to rent the Lee Marvin movie when it is available on Netflix, based on your reviews, Dan. I think maybe it was director Howard Hawks who got a bit peeved over Bacall's involvement with Bogie during filming To Have and Have Not, as she was his protege and he was forming her image.
  19. >>>Has the odd plot misfire ever popped out to you, Miss G? The flashback is through Joe Chapin's daughter's eyes. She tells it. But she only learns about her father's affair with her roommate after the flashback is over and we're back in the present, at her roommate's wedding. So how could she tell the story of the affair when she didn't know about the affair? Isn't it amazing that nobody picked up on this while the script went through development or the actual shooting? Doesn't detract from the film for me, but it is a rather stark mistake. <<<< I can't honestly say I ever noticed that gaff before! That's a major mistake, coming from a director who also wrote the screenplay. He wasn't a very experienced director, Philippe Dunne---this was only like the 5th or 6th film he'd helmed, so I rather wish Gary could have insisted on someone better and let Dunne focus on the script.
