  1. Hi Mrs. C---Thanks for that info; and I have one more question---what is a "Proboard"?

  4. Thanks for posting those reviews of LILAC TIME! It's alway interesting to read what contemporaries thought about these films, especially in the context of their day. I was very moved by the scene in which Jeannine comes across the wounded German flier, who holds up the picture of his girl to her as he lay dying. At first Jeanine is filled with rage at seeing him, one of the "enemy" who shot down her lover, but then she can't help but empathize with his pain, just like her own. Wonderful film!
  5. > I love how the filmmakers of the time could put some > real heart and soul into their characters and their > lives... and Sirk was one of the best! > > I'd be in heaven if TCM could put together an > aviation tribute some day, anything fromWings > to Only Angels Have Wings, Ceiling Zero, > Flying Tigers, Ceiling Zero, The High and the Mighty, > Zero Hour, etc. And also Hells Angels, The Dawn Patrol, Test Pilot, No Highway in the Sky, The Spirit of St. Louis and No Island in the Sky!! That would be a great idea for a "theme".
  6. > > Are you sure it's letterboxed? The last time they > aired it, only the opening credits and a scene at the > end were letterboxed. :-( (Kinda like TCM's > presentation of "The Heroes of Telemark".) The schedule on FMC's website indicates "LBX" so hopefully that's true.
  7. > The Left Hand of God > > Ah, been looking forward to TiVo'ing this one... if > anyone else is interested, it airs March 6th at 12 ET > on the Fox Movie Channel -- and it is > letterboxed Thank you because I really want this movie recorded!!
  8. Hi Pktrekgirl---I'm a fan of THE LEFT HAND OF GOD, too! One of my favorite later, Bogie perfs and I think he and Gene make an intriguing pair....by the way, do you think they end up together at the end? It's very vague.... Miss G
  9. I didn't know about his family background before---did he become estranged from them, I wonder? Why else would he have to support himself as a gardener. What a troubled man! Miss G
  10. > MissGoddess, I believe Bernard Herrmann shared music > credits with the great Alfred Newman in SNOWS as he > did in 1954's THE EGYPTAIN. Thanks---maybe that's why his name didn't readily associate itself in my mind with Snows.
  11. Oooh---I just "wish listed" that new biography. I really need to get down to some serious reading. Between these boards, watching and collecting dvds and pictures of my favorites, and all the rest of my life (!), I barely have time to read anymore. I have to finish the Errol Flynn autobio, a Lincoln bio I am re-reading, the Brian Aherne book on George Sanders and still another biography on a famous sea captain. And now Viv's got a new one!!
  12. > If Wings hasn't been released on DVD by then, > TCM is scheduled to start showing it starting in 2008. Thanks for that delicious scrap of news. Hopefully, this 1st time Best Picture Oscar Winner will get a decent release on dvd.
  13. Ladies, I don't think I can join you in MSN because the computers at my office block IMs and I don't always get back on here in the evenings. However, I hope you will not abandon this thread and I will be with you in spirit.
  14. Thanks, Dan, for the list of what is available on dvd Region 1. I'm going to print it for reference.
  15. I for one am PMing you for that loverly desktop, Pktrekgirl!!
  16. > Yeah, bartering between the three of us! That could > be fun! > Do either of you have MSN? (Mine is > lasooo@hotmail.com) > Which Bio are you talking about? The BIO channel one > or the "Gary Cooper - American Legend?" > The American Legend one is on Gary's signature > collection and the BIO channel one is on March 28th, > 6pm (Central). Me too, once I finally get that danged recorder---I know! I know! I keep saying that, lol! I have to see if I even get the BIO Channel---it may be one of those networks I have without even knowing.....
  17. I love the drawing! That's so cool that your friend did that for you! Mrs. Cooper---ha ha!! We may have to become Mormons so he can have multiple wives.
  18. Kim & Angie---I love both your forum names and I don't think you need bother about changing them either. He still is collecting hearts, isn't he? Miss G
  19. Coopsgal----Wonderful pix---my Photobucket runneth over!!!
  20. Hi Coopsgal--- You have quite a collection of Gary's movies! As I've told the others, mine is pathetically puny and I'm only waiting on getting an new all-region dvd player and a new dvd recorder to start filling up my "Gary Cooper Shelf" in earnest (he get an entire shelf to himself). I loved the clips from YouTube---what a marvelous start to my morning. I was especially delighted to see the clip from ALICE IN WONDERLAND, which I have never before watched. He was perfect and hilarous as the "Awkward Knight"! Only a man so graceful could play that kind of physical comedy --- and on a horse!! I bet Maria loved this movie.
  21. Yikes! There go those seven-league boots! And the "dress whites" look breathtaking on him! (I know I'm jumping in late, so in case you forgot I'm commenting on the pix you posted in his boots and uniform) I saw LILAC TIME last night (thanks Coopsgirl) and thought it was terrific---I'm beginning to be very fond of his silents, now! This film reminded me a great deal of THE DAWN PATROL, only with a romance thrown in, a la A FAREWELL TO ARMS. And you were right---the aerial scenes are nailbitingly great!! Those men did have courage. Miss G
