  4. Whistlingypsy, thank you very much for that link!!! Cool!!! Fred, I agree, the 7th will be a pretty rad day!
  5. > {quote:title=twinkeee wrote:}{quote}There were many funny lines in this movie. One in particular that stood out was when Mary Bolan's husband hadn't shown up for a Dinner Party she was giving. Her excuse she was giving to the guests was that maybe he is "Possibly on the phone with the King or possibly with > " the MAYOR of Canada" ! > > tWINK > Twinkee, OMG, that was so hilarious! So many great "throwaway" lines like this one, you nearly miss them!! I was soooooooo howling with laughter and glee with this flick!!! Such a groovalicious joy!
  6. O-M-G!!! Fred, my man, you called it with this flick!!! I was totally digging on all Mary Boland's flix on Sunday, but this one, wow!!! I couldn't watch it on Sunday, so I fired it up from the DVR last night, after a super duper quadruple pooper crazy day at work, and man, it was the right tonic for what ailed me!!! I had seen it before, but for some reason it really resonated for me this time!! Sentimental in all the right places, but man, it literally had me rolling on the floor, doubled over with laughter in many, many spots!!! OMG! Everyone was awesome!! Charles Laughton was aces! So was Charlie Ruggles, Mary Boland, Zasu Pitts, Leila Hyams...everyone rocked the house!!! This flick totally grooved it hard, and was just what I needed yesterday!!! TCM, you guys ROCK!
  7. Up for silents and early talkies? Who isn't? You will be totally rockin' and rollin' this Thursday, Aug 8th when Ramon Novarro gets his turn in the SUTS spotlight!!! 8. Groovy SUTS Nuggets---Freddie Mac Day-Aug 7!!! Freddie Mac is being honored with his very own SUTS day this Wed, Aug 7, and there are some groovy nuggets during the day I simply must give a shout out to!!! Too bad none of his 1930s flix show up during the day...maybe something for TCM to work on for another time, eh? Those would have been totally rad to see, but as it is there are some coolio noir and comedy flix to check out!!! Starting at 6am, Freddie shows up with Jean Arthur and Melvyn Douglas in TOO MANY HUSBANDS (1940)!!! Then at 7:30am, gotta groove it to Marlene Dietrich and Aline MacMahon in THE LADY IS WILLING (1942)!!! Taut, tense noir is the keyword in BORDERLINE (1950) at 11:30am with Claire Trevor and Raymond Burr (as a sleazebag heavy!)!! This is a PD flick and TCM has screened a fairly decent print in the past, so that's groovy cool! At 8pm, it's the...what the heck is it, anyway??? But anyway, it's MURDER, HE SAYS (1945), a wild and wooly flick with Freddie Mac, Helen Walker, Porter Hall and Marjorie Main! Trippy feudin' and fussin'!! 10pm it's DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944), and yeah, it's on a lot, but hey, it totally rox and always welcome!! Then another noir that isn't screened as often shows up at 4am (wee hours), PUSHOVER (1954), with the luscious gorgeous Kim Novak, Phil Carey, Dorothy Malone and EG Marshall!!! Gotta dig it hard!!! Groove on, brothers and sisters!!
  9. My man, Fred, thank you very much for the link to that article!!! Totally rad!
  10. This flick rocks!!!! A gem amidst a day filled with gems!!! Mary Boland is so cool!
  11. And now, Mary is mixing it up with none other than Laurel and Hardy in NOTHING BUT TROUBLE (1944)!!! So coolio!!! Groovy gems coming up next: DANGER--LOVE AT WORK (1937)!!! With Jack Haley and Ann Sothern!!! RUGGLES OF RED GAP (1935)!!! A hoot and a half with Charles Laughton and Charlie Ruggles!!! My man Fred started up a thread about this gem, it's awesomely funnilicious!!! Then a flick I've never seen before, the 1933 THREE CORNERED MOON!!! With Claudette Colbert and Richard Arlen!!!! And through it all, lovely Mary Boland is a tripalicious hoot!!!! Diggin' it totally!!!
  12. Lavenderblue, thank you so much for chiming in!!! I agree with you about Herbert Marshall and May Robson in SOLITAIRE MAN!!! This flick totally rocks, IMO, and it hasn't even shifted into high gear (that happens when they get on the plane!!). Also features my main man, Lionel Atwill!!!! Woohooo!!! This is totally rock and roll!! And a joy delight!!
  13. Calvin, you are totally knocking it out of the park with your reviews!!!! Wow!!! They are SO awesome!!! I also came across your reviews on selected titles on imdb a while back and thought, "Wow, I "know" her from TCM!!!"!!! Not only are your reviews out of control, but the flix you are reviewing are totally awesome too!!! Many rare ones there too!!!! Thank you very much for sharing your reviews with us here!!! Totally awesome!!
  14. Totally grooving hard to today's lineup featuring Mary Boland!!!! Especially right now, the pre-code flick, THE SOLITAIRE MAN from 1933, totally rocks the house!!! Hope others are digging it too!!
  15. Monthly grooves on hiatus for August, and I already mentioned Sun, Aug 4 in my last weekly of July, but man, I gotta give a shout out to TCM and to Mary Boland and her flix for her Summer Under The Stars spotlight, 24 hours of her flix!!! An example of a performer/contributor who is not that well known, and outside of hard core classic movie circles, probably not known at all. It's SO cool when TCM does this, and I have to give hard props to them for this day! The entire schedule is pasted below for your groovy consideration, but I want to particularly shout it out for some flix that will be floating my boat--> STINGAREE (1934) with Richard Dix and Irene Dunne, and directed by "Wild" Bill Wellman!! I know that TCM boards will be moving and a-grooving when favorite hunk Joel McCrea shows up with Nancy Kelly and Roland Young in HE MARRIED HIS WIFE (1940)!! My main man Frank McHugh gets an opportunity to shine in the spotlight with Mary and Hugh Herbert in MARRY THE GIRL (1937)!!! One of my major grooves for the day is the pre-code SOLITAIRE MAN (1933) with an ensemble cast in a taut situation and an awesome twist at the end--also stars my main man, Lionel Atwill, along with Herbert Marshall!! Laurel and Hardy even show up for Mary's day, in NOTHING BUT TROUBLE (1944)!!! Rock out!! Ann Sothern shows up a couple times, one of those is for DANGER-LOVE AT WORK (1937)!!! Loving and groovin' to all the 30's and 40's flix this day, I'll tell ya!!! Prime time baby and TCM kicks it into high gear, first with Charles Laughton and Charlie Ruggles in THE RUGGLES OF RED GAP (1935)!!! Then it's another flick I'm totally looking forward to groovin' to, particularly as I've never seen it: THREE-CORNERED MOON, a pre-code from 1933, starring Claudette Colbert and Richard Arlen!! Man, that looks splendorific!!!! Groove hard, TCM guys and dolls!!! Dig it!! h4. 4 Sunday h1. 6:00 AM h2. 16. Rock it!!! I totally grooved hard to this flick and that day as well!!! Glad to hear you also did!!
  17. Sans Fin, you are one of the most influential posters on the board! I totally dig hearing of the flix you are interested in and checking them out if I'm able to. I have to say that I love this forum in support of the channel on the dial I love the most!!! Clearly a lot of posters here are incredibly knowledgeable, and contribute this knowledge, insight and perspective, freely shared with all. There are well researched and informative posts throughout these boards, and always a joy and pleasure to read! I don't often have the time to comment, and definitely not the time to give it the degree of thought and effort that many of our wonderful and groovy posters do, but I want to say that I thoroughly appreciate that folks are out there, freely offering their thoughts, reflections and recommendations!!! Totally rocks!
  18. BOOM! Wish I had the day off! This is one of those guilty pleasure type of days where I would close the drapes, turn off phones (I do this anyway on days off when watching TCM flix!!), and just totally lose myself in the grooviness of the flix on the telly!!! I've seen all these flix 500 zillion times, but it doesn't matter. Most are just pure groovaliciousness!!! Bogie baby. It's what it's all about.
  19. She's really something, isn't she??? Just watching her now in the 1937 version of MADAME X. For my money, this is the best of the versions, and it's largely because of Gladys!!! My main man Warren William is also in this one, and he's great too, of course---though his character seems like an off-beat hoot when you think of his pre-code wolf roots!!! Gladys George really shines in an understated way, as she typically does in her flix! Really dig her!!
  20. > {quote:title=tcmsnumberonefan wrote:}{quote}Please tell me that we'll hear from you on Glenda Farrell day. Oh yeah!!! you can make book on that!!! For my wise-crackin' love, Glenda Farrell, it's be there or be square!!
  21. Woah!!! This totally rox the house, gagman!! Thank you for the news!!!
  22. Wow, this was a gem I'd not seen before but thanks to my peeps at TCM I was able to totally groove hard to this character study with an edge! Everyone has baggage here, lots going on, starring Dan Duryea, Cornell Wilde (who also directed), Steven Hill, Jean Wallace, Dennis McCloud!!! Taut, somewhat claustrophobic, noir-ish/crime flick, but more of a character study than anything else! I'm totally stoked that I caught this flick!!! Anyone else dig it?
  23. Thanks for the awesome review, Tom!!! I totally dig on this flick!!
  24. TCM Flix To Groove Hard To!! Mon, July 29-Sun, Aug 4!!! Hope everyone enjoys the final days of July and is having a totally groovin' summer!! Enjoying TCM Flix and Summer days and nights! The final week of July kicks it off hard on Monday, July 29 at 6am with Greta Garbo her own bad self starring with Charles Boyer and Reginald Owen in CONQUEST (1937)!!! Then up at 1:30pm, it's Eddie G doing an outstanding turn in DR EHRLICH'S MAGIC BULLET (1940)!!! If you never thought Eddie G could do anything but gangsters, gotta check this one out! One of the finest actors ever shows it off in style! And wow, to end up the day, we see a two-fer from my main man Warren William!!! Oh yeah! At 5:30pm it's Warren with Gladys Georgs and John Beal in the 3rd version of MADAME X from 1937! This one was just on recently but I missed it, so this will be totally rad! Then it's a WW flick I've not seen before, a version of Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment", along with Anne Gwynne, Nestor Pavia and Darren McGavin, in FEAR (1946)!!! This is my "must watch, must groove" pick of the week!!! Oh yeah! Final "Herrrrrrrrrrrre's Johnnny!!" of the week with Johnny yukking and yakking with Hank Fonda, Liz Taylor, Susan Sarandon, William Holden and Godlie Hawn this Monday night!!! Also the final SOTM turn from Paul Henreid this Tuesday night, and he goes out in style with the 8pm screening of THE CONSPIRATORS (1944), with the lovely Hedy Lamarr, and Sydney Greenstreet, and then of course it's Paul in the heavy hitting CASABLANCA (1942), where all stops are pulled!! Give a shout out! It's all about Reno for the Wednesday daytime lineup, and we kick it off with a pre-code baby!!! MERRY WIVES OF RENO from 1934 was written by the same cat who wrote the scandalously delicious (rumored anyway) lost film, CONVENTION CITY, and this one stars Guy Kibbee, spunky **** Glenda Farrell, Donald Woods, luscious Margaret Lindsay, Hugh Herbert, my main man Frank McHugh, Ruth Donnelly and Roscoe Ates!! Oh yeah, can't go wrong!! Then it's a flick that was screened not long ago, but I'm gonna give it another whirl, cos my man Richard Dix stars, along with Anita Louise and Gail Patrick, in RENO (1940)!!! We're back to the pre-code with a vengeance with Wheeler and Woolsey!!! In PEACH-O-RENO from 1932, this one is a total hoot and highly recommended!!! Next up, it's a light flick, but one I've always enjoyed largely due to the presence of the lovely dame, Anne Jeffreys, VACATION IN RENO (1946), with Jack Haley and Wally Brown!! And we close out the day grooving hard at 3pm where we're smack dab in the middle of Ann Sothern's "Maisie" series, MAISIE GOES TO RENO (1944), where Ann is hanging with John Hodiak, Paul Cavanagh, and Donald Meek, not to mention a young Ava Gardner! Hotcha!! Then it's the noir/crime flick, 5 AGAINST THE HOUSE (1955) with Brian Keith, Kim Novak, William Conrad, and Kerwin Mathews!! And finally, tough mug Lawrence Tierney shows off his sociopathic side in BORN TO KILL (1947), with Claire Trevor, Walter Slezak, Phillip Terry, Audrey Long, and Elisha Cook, Jr!!! It's one not to miss!! Wednesday night, Director Douglas Sirk is featured, and shows off his noir side in the wee hours at 4am with SHOCKPROOF (1949), with Cornel Wilde and Patricia Knight! Underrated flick that sizzles!! August 1 kicks off the annual Summer Under The Stars theme for the month of August, and wow, does it ever start off in style with a full 24 hours of Bogie!!! The flix speaks for themselves and are total heavy hitters, but one thing to watch for at 6am is the excellent documentary, BOGART: THE UNTOLD STORY from 1996!!! It rocks!! As does the entire day!!! By contrast, TCM breaks out someone who many today would say "Who??!!" on Sunday, with Mary Boland featured for 24 hours!!! I totally, totally love-a-dub-dub it when TCM does this sort of thing! Her day kicks off with Richard Dix and Irene Dunne in STINGAREE (1934)!!! Then it's Ann Sothern and Burgess Meredith with Mary in THERE GOES THE GROOM (1937), followed by Mary with TCM board fave Joel McCrea, Nancy Kelly and Roland Young in HE MARRIED HIS WIFE (1940)!! Mary shows up next with my main man, Frank McHugh and Hugh Herbert in MARRY THE GIRL (1937), followed by a flick I'll be groovin' hardest to, the pre-code THE SOLITAIRE MAN (1933)!!! With Herbert Marshall, my main man Lionel Atwill, May Robson, Elizabeth Allen, Ralph Forbes, and Lucille Gleason, this one features an interesting twist that can't be missed!!! Totally rockin' flick!!! Later in the day, Mary is hanging it with Laurel and Hardy in NOTHING BUT TROUBLE (1944) at 5pm!!! Then it's Mary with Ann Sothern again, and Jack Haley in DANGER-LOVE AT WORK (1937)!!! Charlie Ruggles and Charles Laughton yoik it up with Mary in the awesome comedy, RUGGLES OF RED GAP (1935)!!! Then it's my other total groove of the day, the rarely screened, THREE CORNERED MOON (1933)!!! Is this is a premiere, TCM heads? At any rate, it's pre-code baby, and that's always groovalicious!!! This one features Claudette Colbert, Richard Arlen, and Wally Ford in a pre-code flick I've not seen before and can't wait to!! Thank you, TCM!!! My weekly grooves may be taking a brief semi-hiatus during the month of August, may pop up for individual days rather than weeks. Thank you for reading, and thanks to TCM for yet another week of total bomb-diggy flicks for us to move and groove to! Have a great week everyone!!
