Great stuff, Thelma, thank you for all of that, wow!!! I also am sooooooo enamored of your namesake, and totally dug seeing some of her shorts today!! -
99 RIVER STREET was awesome!!! Loved it!!! May not get a chance to see the others until today, but wow, great stuff!

> {quote:title=ArchieCarstairs wrote:}{quote} > William made seven feature films in 1932 and five features and one short in 1933. You could practically do a whole day of just the Pre-Code period. (And another day of the Perry Mason and Lone Wolf series...) > Oh, yes. Warren William is DUE for the love. Love this post, Arch!!! I agree, it would be awesome!!! And I love the suggestion made elsewhere in the thread that he could be COTM!!! Perfect!!! Warren William rocks the house! -

Thanks for the support, Love! Great to see you back on the boards too!!! Hope all is well! And glad you are digging on WW in his pre-codes! -
I didn't catch these today, but I do recall THE HAIRY APE looking pretty rough when it was broadcast a couple years ago on TCM. I know they generally seek out the best print, and I often see films that are Public Domain and out in pretty rough DVD releases, but TCM somehow has a very nice and clean print. I guess that can't always be the case, and I may be in the minority in that I'm ok with that, as long as they are airing films that never or rarely get shown and particularly if they are not out on DVD. Not a bad idea to see if better prints are possible though.

LFN! Great to see you back! I haven't seen you around lately, and I fully agree, a fantastic night on TCM!!!! Great stuff!!
-
What a groovy day!!!! Kay rocks!!! Queen of the pre-codes, indeed!!! I also would love to see her Paramounts and her Monograms! Though I had the chance to see one of the latter, and it was kind of like Bela's in a way. With her in it, the Z-grade nature of the plot, etc, was elevated. Once a star, always a star, and Kay Francis was indeed a star! Love her!

Wow, that's the only one of the 3 noir's I've seen, so really looking forward to the other 2...but having said that, KCC is one of my ALL-TIME favorite noir flicks! Hope you enjoy it!

Great discussion going on here, thank you all for sharing some great thoughts!!! I agree with Kinokima, even if I'm not a huge fan of the particular film if it's from the 1930's (especially the first half of the decade), I'm enthralled with it!!! But in the case of L&H, I do dig these two dudes! They totally crack me up and I can relate---maybe I'm just a goofy guy too! -
I dig William Bendix! The one I'm most looking forward to is COVER UP!! I've not seen that one before!
-
Really looking forward to the 3 Payne noir films this Friday evening! TCM rocks!

Oh yes, it would definitely mean LOTS of pre-codes! I hope TCM considers this seriously! He's been one of my main men for a long time! Dig that dude! Thanks for the support everyone!! -

> {quote:title=rodee wrote:}{quote} > I must agree with you. I was thrilled to see the Laurel and Hardy marathon on TCM. I haven't seen many of these shorts since I was a kid and one local TV station played them. I have loved Laurel and Hardy ever since. No one has been able to match their comedy. I can only hope that now that TCM has played these shorts they will repeat this marathon often (hint hint please please) and hopefully add these wonderful films to their DVD collection. I will be first up to purchase. I second this!!! I would LOVE to see these out in a collection! I would be in line for that!!! I'm glad you are enjoying them! I realize humor is very subjective and they are probably not for everyone, but wow, I sooooo dig these guys!!! I actually really discovered them thanks to TCM when they started airing some of the features and then the shorts a few years ago. Wow! I had previously only seem them in documentaries and some clips. Since then I've had the chance to see much more of these guys and they are hilarious! Totally crack me up! And yep, early 30's always pretty much rocks the house! -
OMG! Charlie Chan is on this moment in a short!!!!

Wow!!! Warner Oland himself!!! I hope we see some of his films on here sometime soon too!!! This rocks!!!! I love it even if only a brief appearance in this short!! -
I don't have a lot of fancy rhymes ready, so feel free to join in, but let me give a shout out to those who sponsored this in THE MATCH KING thread, I just had to shout it from the rooftops (or start a thread for it anyway!) One of my absolute main men of cinema, he did tons of pre-codes (so that's a winner!), plus most of his work was with Warner Bros, so that should be a good go! So many great films he appeared in, and it would be cool to have a night of his Lone Wolf flicks from Columbia too! SOTM? Lonnnnnnnnng overdue I say! Totally dig me some Warren William! Who's in?
-
Wow, well, I liked THE MATCH KING better than some it seems! I understand that he was a total jerk, but I still dug it and could appreciate his performance for what it was! I thought the story was very well done, and while I do dig WW in some other films perhaps better, I actually thought he did a fine job here as well! And wow, in THIS IS THE NIGHT, which I haven't seen yet, Thelma Todd loses her dress eh???? OMG! I can't wait to see that now!!! DVR here I come! Thelma....I have a huge crush on her as it is!!! And as for WW for SOTM----I'm THERE!!!! Pre-code heaven!

I'm totally grooving to the lineup tonight!!! WOW!!! I totally dig Laurel and Hardy, and these shorts are awesome!!!! I wish they would put these out in a box set, that would rock! But as it is, thank you TCM!! -
Wow, getting a late start on my weekly groove, but OMG, Laurel and Hardy marathon this Tuesday night and into Wednesday, it's outta control!!! Lots I've seen, lots I've NOT seen and I'm totally looking forward to it, as it gets under way Tuesday in prime time!! Lots of shorts, and I can't wait, they are SO funny!! Pre-code grooviness on Thursday with Kay Francis celebrating her birthday! GUILTY HANDS (yes, haven't seen this in a while!!!), JEWEL ROBBERY (awesome pre-code!!), ONE WAY PASSAGE...along with some early 30's fare in the lineup such as THE GOOSE AND THE GANDER (wild and crazy stuff!). Friday night noir fans get a coolio treat with some John Payne goodies, including the fave KANSAS CITY CONFIDENTIAL, but also two gritty flicks I've not seen before, 99 RIVER STREET and THE CROOKED WAY!!! Awesome way to spend a Friday evening!!! Another very cool Saturday morning, with one of the best of Red Skelton's "Whistling" series, WHISTLING IN THE DARK to lead off the morning, followed by the zany IT'S A WONDERFUL WORLD, then the dark Bogie flick CONFLICT, and of course my boyz, the Bowery Boys, in their weekly flick, JAIL BUSTERS!!! Later in the afternoon the gritty WWII Bogie drama SAHARA hits the tube! Sunday morning it's pre-code risque at it's finest with Mae West in I'M NO ANGEL!!! Totally grooving this week, thank you, TCM!!!
-
THE MATCH KING was incredible! Wow! Warren William at his best! And yes, Fred, you have it right on that, very interesting to watch it wind and then unravel. FRIENDS AND LOVERS I'd seen before, excellent pre-code! I haven't yet had a chance to watch THIS IS THE NIGHT, really looking forward to it from the DVR!!! Thelma Todd, be still my beating heart!!! She rocks my world!
-
I'm totally grooving to these tonight!!! Can't wait!!! Lili Damita!!! Hotcha!! Warren William! Groove! Pre-codes in prime-time! Rocking!

2011 Additions to the Warner Archive

Those are all great ideas/suggestions! I also dig the multi-packs because they are more economical and offer more quality for the buck! I dig Archie's suggestion for the Warren William Perry Mason flix! Would love to see B sets for sure! -
Great discussion! To get back to the OP: Ann Savage in DETOUR! Man was she brutal!!! Proto noir: Glenda Farrell in I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG! Wicked and hot! Jean Gillie in DECOY! Woah! Just a few off the top!

Film noir runneth over on the schedule lately
markbeckuaf replied to LoveFilmNoir's topic in Film Noir--Gangster
It's one of my faves, for sure! I've seen it years ago on TCM (wasn't able to catch it this time), and have it on one of the Film Noir sets, so I'm grooving any time to it! Dig it! -
> {quote:title=musicalnovelty wrote:}{quote} > Let's hope they reach back to the early thirties for some real rarities. I second that!!!
