  1. I'm with you! I do think BRIDE is an awesome sequel and one of the best in the history of cinema, without question, and it does work so well on so many levels. But for pure horror fans, I'm with you and dig the original better. Nothing like the opening sequence in the grave yard, or the first encounter with the Monster, or the "It's Alive" and subsequent dialogue. Stark and intense and gothic, I love this film! Both are great, but if I had to choose and could watch only one, I would probably choose the original!
  2. Warnerbrosfan, I'm with you, I'm going to spring for the full set of shorts sometime when I have a bit more dough. They are re-mastered, and awesome! Meanwhile, I've been catching the shorts on IFC, sister station to AMC, but airs the Boys uncut and commercial free, and they appear to be the re-mastered shorts as well!
  3. > {quote:title=CitySlicker wrote:}{quote} > What WONDERFUL television *The Rifleman* was. My father died when I was a tyke, and I could relate to Mark, the son, in a certain way. Lucas was, in many ways, a father figure. His high morals and the way he doted over his son bring a tear to my eye even today. Great, great TV. Tightly edited stories, great character actors (John Anderson, John Dehner, Peter Whitney) and superb supporting cast. Paul Fix as Micah was a treasure ... boy, great memories of a great show. City Slicker, I totally agree and can relate with your experiences. My father left us when I was 4, and I related to Mark (my first name too!) and yearned for a father figure, which I found in this show (along with a few others). It's a great show and I can't wait to see it when I get home every day!
  4. It's SUCH an awesome film, I agree!!! Never gets old for me, I can watch it a zillion times!!! This and LITTLE CAESAR are the bomb for me!
  5. Love this set of 6 films, price is right, and they are classic B's!!! Love it!! Anyone else have this??
  6. Kyle, my man, totally digging on the OF HUMAN BONDAGE poster---thank you again for this great thread and all these treats!! You rock, man!!
  7. Awesome, YOU'LL FIND OUT is one of my favorite horror spoofs! How can you go wrong with Bela, Boris and Peter!!!
  8. Kyle, I haven't been around the boards for a few days, and I saw this, and I am in full support of you and your posters!!! FOOTLIGHT PARADE and I AM A FUGITIVE FOR A CHAIN GANG are two of my very favorite pre-code films and deserve all the attention they can get! Please keep on plugging man, despite the censorship that we encounter here and many places! Your posters are awesome and I totally dig them!

  10. Wow, lots of great comments in this thread! I agree with so many of them, so I'll just add that one of the huge reasons I love older films (mostly silents through early 50's) is that they take me to a different time, when people were different, culture was different, styles were different, everything...different. Older..not necessarily better, but nevertheless there is a nostalgia, even if I wasn't alive during those times. It's one of the reasons I like older TV shows too, from the 50's and 60's. Those times seem magical to me from my perspective of "now". But like a few folks mentioned, there is something magical and amazing and wondrous and mystical the further back you go. I think Silents are the purest form of that experience for me, one of the reasons I have to be prepared for them, because I can't really do other things while watching them, I have to put my full effort into watching them, and just find that I lose myself completely in them! I find something similar with very early talkies, and some of the pre-codes as well, but not as completely as Silent films! They are awesome! TCM...wow, a channel not only shows old black and white movies most of the time, but also airs silent films. It's an incredible channel and here's to hoping they'll also do this! At this time of Thanksgiving, I give thanks to the cinematic wonders that TCM brings to us 24/7/365!
  11. Gaqman, I'm with you! I also grooved hard to SAFETY LAST last night! I love it, it's hilarious and it was the first Harold Lloyd movie I ever watched, so it always has a soft spot in my heart!!! But I have grown to like many of his other movies better, though I still always groove to this! I absolutely groove to Harold Lloyd! IMHO, he's the funniest of the big time silent comics and I felt his humor translated best (though no more successfully I guess) than the others, though I like them and like their talkies also. I just laugh out loud more to Lloyd!
  12. Thank you all for the great discussion here about this film! I also really love this film, and have for a long time! Fortunately I had the chance to watch it again yesterday, and it still packs a punch on many levels. Really dig it! Thank you, TCM!!
  13. > {quote:title=mrroberts wrote:}{quote} > Just so no one misunderstands me, I'm 100% for Mickey Rooney getting the star of the month, he just turned 90 and is still going strong (like a Timex watch). He would be a great TCM interview, eh? Indeed he would!!! He was awesome a few years ago in one of the Robert Osborne interviews, and I'd love to see him do another!
  14. > {quote:title=filmlover wrote:}{quote} > Well, there is certainly no pleasing some people. > > I am very glad that TCM chose to salute Don Knotts at all. > Thank you, TCM. I am sure I asked for such a night on one of the Challenges, and am glad to see someone else in programming likes DK as much.. Hear, hear! Not a huge fan of DK's films to be honest, and I watched some other stuff last night, but I was happy to see that it was on and did tune in a few times just to see Don do his stuff! I was a HUGE fan of his work on The Andy Griffith Show, so it was nice to see him honored last night by TCM.
  15. > {quote:title=Kinokima wrote:}{quote} > It's too bad the Hollywood series is very hard to find for those of us who were not lucky to experience it. I would love to hear James Mason's voice narrating about the Silent Era. I also would absolutely LOVE if this series were made available on DVD!! I remember catching an episode or two on a Public TV station many years ago, and I remember hearing James Mason and seeing such wonder on the screen, and also the plaintive, sad and somewhat melancholy musical score. I would LOVE to see this released in conjunction with the Moguls set!
  16. > {quote:title=mrroberts wrote:}{quote} I still give TCM a 9 out of 10 score; last year they gave me the whole Basil Rathbone/Sherlock Holmes series on Christmas AND the William Powell /Thin Man movies on New Years Eve. I'm with you, MrRoberts! And they gave us Bogie all month last year, and I'll admit I dig him more! But a living legend, someone still with us, it's awesome! PLUS, we get the Marx Bros on NYE this year!!!
  17. Bing, I'm with you 100%!!!! I'm not sure if they have the new morning opening anywhere on the site, but I'm sure one of our knowledgeable posters will know! I totally agree, and thank you for reminding me of the song of that older morning opening! I totally dug that and I still like it better even than the newest one, but the newest one is WAY better than the one with the sax, the dude running up the stairs, etc---it was too loud and made me think of going to work, you're right, and who needs or wants that??? LOL I also totally dug the big band intro for afternoon films, but I agree, that the newer one is better than the depressing one that they had for a while. I actually liked the music of that one, but again, it was too dark and somber. I also agree that the old evening intro they had for tons and tons of years was the best and the current one is weak. I hope they change that one soon. And agree, I'm also very glad they retained the late night one, that is WAY cool and perfect for late night classic film viewing. It also reminds me of the late 80's and 90's for some reason, and I like that!
  18. The Mick!!! I have to admit that I hadn't really looked that carefully at December as some things in my life may have intruded upon me enjoying it fully, but it looks like that will be delayed a bit, so I'll get to enjoy a month long tribute to The Mick!! Thursdays all month, all Mick, all day 24 hours!!! The first one has a ton of pre-codes, and though I'm not as big a fan of some of his musicals, I do have a soft spot for the Hardy series, and also included is a ton of his later flicks, often noir! Thank you, TCM!!! What a great and wonderful tribute to a living legend!!! I hope they have a chance to bring him to introduce some of the films, that would be even more awesome!!
  19. I just noticed the new morning movie intros, and wow, thank you, TCM!!! I love this one MUCH better than the noisy urban/modern one that had the guy running up the stairs. I never liked that one and pined for the older one that had the milkman (it was animated, I believe). This one is awesome though, more low-key and classy!

Thank you for the notice!!
  21. Don't miss the 3 pre-codes early tomorrow (Wednesday) morning! They all rock!!! ARSENE LUPIN---the Barrymore Bros go toe to toe! RED-HEADED WOMAN--one of the raciest and wildest pre-codes with Harlow in va-va-voom form! MIDNIGHT MARY--awesome pre-code with a stunningly beautiful Loretta Young! TCM is the bomb-diggy for showing these flicks!
  22. As a gift, was so excited to receive it tonight!!! Listening to the commentaries on AMERICAN MADNESS now! Great flicks all with commentaries and also a documentary! Wonderful set!
  23. This is a great series, along with the films that are playing in slot along with the Documentary entries. Awesome stuff, I'm grooving!!!
  24. Miss Goddess, So sorry you can't see it! I'm feeling very lucky to be able to watch it daily! I haven't seen it in ages before now! I agree with you about Paul Fix, great character actor (long time in films too!), and his presence is awesome in this show, I agree! I love the bond between he and Lucas (there is one episode in particular that kind of provides the background for that). It's like he's his dad!
  25. I'm with you, Kinokima!!! It's a fantastic month!!! Love seeing silent films and early talkies in prime time!
