    > Is there anything better than watching Powell/ Loy. I am thinking that Nora Charles could drink Nick under the table. Who's with me! TCM, thanks for showing the Thin Man, I had to make myself a martini.

    > I would love it if TCM would devote a whole day of Powell/Loy films. Nice christmas gift to me!

They are awesome I agree!!!! I'm not sure about that, though, Nick could knock them down! It would be fun to watch them try! I'd be all for it, martinis, for sure!

They did air all of them for NY Eve a while ago and that was great! Would love to see something like that again, but really any evening on a weekend (Fri or Sat) works well for me! Tip of the glass to ya!

  2. Jimmy Stewart rocks and is definitely, without question, in my top 5 actors of all time! THE MORTAL STORM is such an incredible film, I really enjoyed watching it tomorrow, and am looking forward to seeing THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER, which is on next Sunday on TCM!

I adore him in DESTRY RIDES AGAIN, YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU, MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON, HARVEY, and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, to name my favorites!

  3. Grooving to TCM this week! Not a lot of pre-codes compared to last week, but some cool and relatively obscure noir/crime flix though!

Wee hours of Monday morning--3:45am--catch ZOO IN BUDAPEST, very rare pre-code with a young sexy Loretta Young!

Monday is pretty jazzy with BLUES IN THE NIGHT, YOUNG MAN WITH A HORN and The Mick in THE STRIP--great noir!!

Basically you want to stay up all night on Tuesday, cos the wee hours starting at midnight has some groovy flix that are part of the Dorothy Malone fest earlier in the eve: THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS with John Ireland, CONVICTED with Broderick Crawford himself and Glenn Ford!

Then at 5am a pretty rare noir with Freddie Mac, PUSHOVER, along with Kim Novak!!

Mick's day on Thursday has a few crime and noir flicks including KILLER MCCOY, THE BIG WHEEL and the best, IMHO, QUICKSAND, also starring Peter Lorre!!

And of course on Saturday, I always have to give a shout out to my Boys from Bowery, this week is BOWERY TO BAGDAD! Tune in for your B chuckles!!!

And later in the afternoon on Saturday, THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, always dig that sci-fi gem!

Just a few of the groovy highlights from the upcoming week! Thank you, TCM!

  4. Actually....I'm of the opposite view and I really dig the exuberant drinking, particularly in this first one, which was also pre-code and typically a LOT of drinking goes on in pre-code flix! When they stalled on that later in the series, I thought it was a mistake, though understandable given the code and the times. Fun stuff!

  5. Sorry if there is another thread on this, but wow, just watched this on TCM this afternoon, and really loved it! Mid-30's films, love 'em and on a Sunday afternoon! Props to TCM for airing this today and in this time slot! Near constant bed of big band music from the time, love it! And more early Paramounts like this showing up is always good! Wicked cool!

  6. Thanks for this early evening treat, TCM!!!

I absolutely love 30's mysteries! And this film has that awesome Loy/Powell combination to boot!! Pre-code, lots of drinking and a great mystery! Powell and Loy are great in their signature roles!

  7. I have to be honest with you here. Cher is a Sexy Cougar. :)

Seriously, I'd be cool with her being hostess of something like Underground (desperately needs a host of some sort). But I'm not sure that is where her interests lie based on what I've read.

  8. I agree, it's a GREAT set! I received it during the Thanksgiving holiday as an early gift, and wow! I can't tell you how happy it's making me! I have only watched 3 of the films so far, of course all with commentaries! :) AC MEET FRANKENSTEIN, MEET JEKYLL AND HYDE, and BUCK PRIVATES! All awesome! Many hours of enjoyment with this set, worth every penny!

  9. Wow, what an awesome way to wake up on a Saturday morning!

First off THE SAINT IN NEW YORK!!! Fans of George Sanders won't be happy, but I kind of dig this earlier Saint flick! Any old time 30's/40's mystery flick is a solid winner in my book! Digging it!

This is followed by the Marx Bros in one of their best: A NIGHT AT THE OPERA!!!

Then my favorite version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL!!

And then this week's Bowery Boys feature! This week it's JUNGLE GENTS!

Wow! It's a rocking Saturday morning on TCM!!

And there's more grooviness on the way throughout the afternoon and evening! Up later is:

    THE MORTAL STORM

    THE THIN MAN---always groovy!!!

    THE SNAKE PIT

    CONFESSIONS OF A NAZI SPY!!!

    THE LONG NIGHT

And into the wee hours of tomorrow: OUT OF THE FOG!!

TCM is out of control! And I'm loving every second of it!

  10. I will admit, I'm a commentary junkie now!!! :) As someone already mentioned, it's often a reason that will sway a purchase for me. For example, I still haven't purchased Vol 5 of the WB Film Noir sets, as that is the only one sans commentaries. Same with Vol 1 of the Pre-Code Hollywood TCM Archives series, the other two have commentaries! I dig them!

  11. Another great list of films I'd love to see more of (or of at all!)

Back to my idea---it's great that TCM chose to opt for more variety in their playlist a few years ago and went after Columbia, Disney, Paramount, etc....but it would be great to see them dig into their own a bit more!
