  1. Redriver, I agree with you about the theme! And also the music that is used throughout the show, it's always very intense! Keeps you glued to the screen! Today's show was great, one of those where Lucas didn't have to draw down in order to make his point and help someone out. I love how there is always that edge of menace with his character, like he will snap on you at any moment if given a reason, but you do have to give him a reason and sometimes even then he will hold back for any number of reasons, one of those to set an example for his son. He's a moral compass of a bygone era.
  2. Fxreyman, you must be reading a different thread because the one I'm reading (here) seems to be mostly positive!
  3. Kingrat, thank you for your thoughts about WOMAN ON THE BEACH!!! I'm not sure if Charles Bickford was blind or not for real...but wow, what a great noir actor, always tough as nails! Very intense flick, I thought! And glad you enjoyed the Pat O'Brien day! Very groovy and wow, really loved all those flicks! THE PEOPLE AGAINST O'HARA a very underrated flick, very good one! The programmers deserve a medal for this one!
  4. Sorry I had a problem last week and couldn't keep up with things like I love to on TCM, but wow, Wheeler and Woolsey are my homies and I need to represent and make sure that TCM knows without question how much I love seeing these guys on the air!! Thanks to Edna May Oliver's tribute last week, we were treated to TWO W&W flicks, HALF SHOT TO SUNRISE and CRACKED NUTS, both of them incredibly hilarious! Please keep the Wheeler and Woolsey flicks coming!!! Great stuff!!
  5. Wow, TCM is rocking the house this coming week!!! Monday kicks off with some out of control noir in THE CRIMSON KIMONO, THE BIG HEAT, and THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI!! All during the day!!! Evening is all about the Moguls and Movie Stars, including some GREAT silent flicks including SUNRISE, THE IRON HORSE and FLESH AND THE DEVIL (Greta baby!!!) Wednesday is all about waking up to pre-codes! Awesome stuff! ARSENE LUPIN including the Barrymore bro's on opposite sides of the law. RED-HEADED WOMAN one of the most outrageous pre-code flicks there ever was, with Jean Harlow showing us why she was...well....hot! Chester Morris and Una Merkel rock here too! And MIDNIGHT MARY, with an incredibly sexy young Loretta Young vamping it up along with one of my main men, Ricardo Cortez! Awesome! That same day in the evening we are treated to Chaplin, Keaton and Llloyd, the triumvirate comic actors of the silent era, bar none!!! And to boot, we have IT, with the hotcha Clara Bow!!! Yowza!!! Thursday morning finds us in some more pre-code heaven with the macabre and wild THE MASK OF FU MANCHU, with a deliciously wicked Myrna Loy, Boris doing his thing and on the edge pre-code horror!! Oh Myrna, whip him again!!!! Whoooh! And though not pre-code, if you dig on Cagney and O'Brien (which I most certainly do!), you will love DEVIL DOGS OF THE AIR on Thursday morning, followed by one of my favorite ever Leslie Howard flicks, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL! Lots more stuff for every taste this coming week, but these are some of the flicks I'll be grooving to!!!
  6. All I can say is when Robert Osborne finally decides to retire it will be the end of an era! Wow.
  7. Glad you grooved Zani!!! It's not a film that is really my cup of tea, but I always appreciate when a classic film lover is so passionate and excited about seeing an uncut and spectacular print of a film they groove to! Enjoy!
  8. Just recently purchased the Frankenstein and Dracula Universal Horror sets, and wow, I was really grooving to the commentaries on both! I think the commentary on the original 31 FRANKENSTEIN is one of the best ever, as is the commentary on the '31 DRACULA. Anyone else have these? I am wanting to get the Mummy and Wolfman sets as well soon. Hope that TCM is able to get these back on perhaps next year?
  9. It truly is a great series! I may do that also! Totally agree with your take on the influences. Particularly the first season is out of control!
  10. MFF I agree!!! I also have been digging on the classic OUTER LIMITS on THIS. That is SUCH a great show!
  11. Mine too, MFF! I totally dug this short today, wow! I love the theme music, it always makes me happy and makes life seem timeless to me!
  12. Thanks to Amazon, I ordered "Film Noir: The Dark Side of Hollywood" and I can't wait to check it out! Anyone else have this box set? It has a GREAT Joan Crawford flick, SUDDEN FEAR, as well as Hugh Beaumont (Ward Cleaver) in RAILROADED, a very overlooked and outstanding B-noir, BEHIND LOCKED DOORS!! Also includes HANGMEN ALSO DIE and THE LONG NIGHT!!
  13. Did anyone catch THE WOMAN ON THE BEACH yet??? I have it saved on the trusty DVR from TCM the other day and can't wait to check it out!! I've seen it before, a LONG time ago, from TCM.
  14. MFF, IMHO, Nick At Nite ruled as far as classic TV in the 80's and early 90's! They showed SUCH great shows, and while TVLand was better than it is now back in their first 5 years, they never approached the quality of Nick At Nite. NAN used to have Mr. Ed, Car 54 Where Are You?, the first 5 seasons of My Three Sons (best IMO), Donna Reed, Adventures of Superman, Ann Sothern, and tons more! I really loved that station and would watch it EVERY night (this was before the days of TCM remember, and I never had AMC back in their glory days unfortunately). TVLand sucks if you are looking for 50's and 60's classic television. They aren't even doing 70's classics much of a credit. THIS and Retro TV got it going on these days in terms of classic shows!
  15. Actually...the past few years, the Feb schedule hasn't been too bad, and is often quite good. The only thing I don't tend to dig that much is that you won't usually find very many B films on the schedule, and generally the lower budget noirs, which I dig so much. But I can find things to groove to! For example: The first day rocks in the morning with flicks from 1933 and 1934 including THE THIN MAN and MANHATTAN MELODRAMA. I mean, you gotta rock! On Feb 3, in PRIME TIME, no less, you have a ton of flicks from 1929 and 1930! Love it! Flicks like THE LOVE PARADE (1929), THE BIG HOUSE (1930), THE DIVORCEE (1930), and DISRAELI (1929). Those are the BOMB! That is only the tip of the iceberg. There are tons more great flicks showing up in "Oscar Month"! Thanks TCM!
  16. Mine looked fine, Arch, hope yours was also! it's a great flick (HAVING WONDERFUL CRIME), great B comedy/mystery, and wow, totally digging on Carole Landis too!!
  17. I'm definitely pre-code all the way!!! I think it would be fascinating to imagine if the code had been held off for even just another year or two. I do see some films in late 34 and 35 that are sort of code-marginal, IMO. They may have been censored but there is enough there that sometimes enough still gets through to make them hard-hitting, or even gets overlooked somewhat if they are mostly a B film.
  18. This is such a GREAT film!!! Really love it!!! Ryan is awesome and I agree, it's a timeless film! Thanks for airing it, TCM!!
  19. Wow, thank you, TCM!!!! Caught that Thelma short right after the Bowery Boys feature today!!! Grooving hard to MAID IN HOLLYWOOD, with Patsy!! Awesome stuff!!! Dig on Thelma!!! Hotcha-cha-cha!!!
  20. > {quote:title=Shemp wrote:}{quote} > MAID IN HOLLYWOOD (1934) > Thelma Todd & Patsy Kelly > Saturday 11/13 11:38AM Eastern I am grooving on this today!!!! Love Thelma!!! Hotcha-cha-cha!
  21. Had to catch today's feature, CLIPPED WINGS, on DVR, as I had to work earlier today, but wow, grooving to it now! I love these guys!!!
  22. Wow, thank you all so much for your kind and wonderful comments!!!! I broke down and wept when I read them, to be honest!!! I'm so glad that everyone had a chance to view these awesome films!!! For me, TCM is just the bomb diggy!!! And Finance, how do you know that RO doesn't rock out?? These flicks were soooooo cool! I totally dug watching A DANGEROUS PROFESSION, and yes, Ella Raines---hotcha!!! And wow, WONDERFUL CRIME, such a cool flick! George Raft is an awesome guy, I just love hearing his voice! I could listen to it all day and night!
  23. I missed some of these AWESOME silent films too! I wish they would compile them onto some box sets in honor of this series of films! I'd certainly scoop them up, they are GREAT and I'd love to see them again and again!
  24. Wow, folks, how about tomorrow which includes WONDERFUL CRIME (comedy/crime flick), CRACK-UP (great noir flick!!), A DANGEROUS PROFESSION (Raft and O'Brien!), THE WOMAN ON THE BEACH (rarely seen Robert Ryan, Joan Bennett, Charles Bickford flick!) and THE SET-UP (always a great watch)!!! Pretty awesome day on Thursday!!
  25. Grooving to Pat O'Brien on TCM on Thursday, Nov 11! Mainly for the pairing with my main man George Raft in a seldom seen noir/crime film, A DANGEROUS PROFESSION, really looking forward to that!!! But also you gotta dig the comedy/mystery WONDERFUL CRIME, and the very cool noir CRACK-UP! Not to mention THE PEOPLE AGAINST O'HARA and FIGHTING FATHER DUNNE! This is a rocking cool day on TCM!
