  1. Yes, I totally groove to THE SCAR!!! I also have it on one of those cheapie 50 movie packs, and it's great! I also saw it on TCM and really love it, great stuff! And an intense ending, where your sentiments do switch around, at least for me! I also grooved hard to WOMAN IN THE WINDOW, outstanding print, wow!
  2. Sorry I wasn't here to groove in advance, but totally dug the day dedicated to Edna Mae Oliver!!!! Mainly because of the THREE films with James Gleason (Hildegaarde Withers), B mysteries extraordinaire, and of course her flicks with my main men, Wheeler and Woolsey!!!! Rock and roll!!! TCM is the bomb diggy!!!
  3. Really love THIS channel! I never saw it before I moved, and it rocks, for a commercial channel. I wish they'd show more classic films, though they show their share, and they have some great classic TV shows mixed in! To go along with them, also Retro TV! Both channels add up to WAY better than TVLand which totally sucks these days. TCM is unmatched as far as classic films, no question, but for classic TV shows, THIS and RetroTV are pretty darn cool!
  4. I agree with you both about the ending! It was completely apropos! After that scene though it had a bit of sadness in the final scene, I thought, interesting for a film of this type, but most appropriate given the events of the night.
  5. Yes, that's the one I meant! Very cool, yep it's on my "want list"! That documentary alone sounded like a winner to me! I'm also a huge fan of commentaries on classic films! I'm disappointed to hear that Vol 5, which you mentioned in your previous post, doesn't have any! Bummer! But it does have a TON of mostly B and hard to find films, so that's a plus! Both are on my "to get" list! These are the only two of the Warner series of noir I don't have.
  6. I have seen that one, THE BISHOP MURDER CASE, and it's a very good one, a good early talkie! I couldn't help but think of Sherlock Holmes, though I thought he played it a little differently (9 years before first playing Holmes). I honestly have only seen one of the Powell films, the one that is in public domain and that TCM plays fairly often, THE KENNEL MURDER CASE. It's too bad we haven't had a chance to see the other Paramount films with Powell.
  7. Great information in this thread! Thank you, folks!
  8. Caught THE GARDEN MURDER CASE thanks to TCM yesterday. Another great detective film, though I felt that Paul Lukas was one of the weakest Philo Vance among the many who played him. IMHO William Powell and Warren William were the best though. Even though I think Lukas is a little out of his element in this character, the rest of the cast is great, and it's a very good film! Another winner, TCM!
  9. > {quote:title=finance wrote:}{quote} > I could look it up, but I'm too lazy. Who was in it? Marshall Thompson, who I thought was a weak lead, but the supporting cast, particularly the bar patrons, were all great! William Conrad as the bartender led that group, which also featured Leon Ames and Virginia Field and Andrea King. Real B film, but great, I think! I caught it a few years ago on TCM. Miss Wonderly: I'm wanting to get that set sometime soon! I still have to get Vol 3 though, do you have that one, and if so, how is it?
  10. Anyone else catch this little known MGM B mystery flick this past week? I dug it! It wasn't much of a mystery, as we the viewer see who the perp is, but it's a pretty grisly film and honestly I thought somewhat of a somber tone in spots, particularly the end. The bad dude is REALLY bad (and you'll know why if you've seen the flick). I like Edmond Lowe, he has that easy going style that I really enjoy. I had the feeling they may have been thinking of a series of films with his character (named "Chris Cross", but I don't believe they did. Too bad! Thanks, TCM, for airing these little known gems! 11. This was a darn good print too, I thought! Wow! Best I've seen!
  12. Miss Wonderly I was not aware you were not sure about this flick, wow! I hope you have a chance to actually stay awake and watch it! It rocks, I think! I have to admit I'm a HUGE fan of Edmond O'Brien so anything he's in has me glued hard, and of course Albert Dekker, B guy mostly but I dig him in anything including this. So I guess my point is you don't have to only groove to it for Burt and Ava, though they are gorgeous and Burt always a great job (he's a noir dude with chops IMO).
  13. Man this flick is a trip! What a joy waiting on the DVR when I got home tonight after a long day and week! Outasight, man!!! I'm totally grooving to this flick and the Joel McCrea fans have to be rocking out too! Fay Wray is sooooooo sexy and cool! And wow, always love Robert Armstrong! Intense, shocking, horror film, beyond genres as so many pre-codes were! Loving it!
  14. Miss Goddess, very cool! Yeah, I love it! It's on RetroTV, which is a digital sub-channel carried by a local channel, it rocks, they have a lot of great old programs on there (waaaaaay better than TV Land ever was honestly).
  15. One of the local cable channels has been carrying "The Rifleman" lately and I've really been totally grooving to it! Noir and hard-hitting crime on the range! Love this stuff! Anyone else enjoy this series?
  16. Great noir! Just settling in for an awesome noir flick! Thanks, TCM! Great performance by Burt, Edmond O'Brien and Albert Dekker! And oh yeah, Ava!!!
  17. Tough one to narrow down to 20, but here goes! 1. THE BLACK CAT (1934) 2. DRACULA (1931)-Lugosi! 3. FRANKENSTEIN (1931) 4. ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1933) 5. DRACULA'S DAUGHTER (1936) 6. THE SEVENTH VICTIM 7. THE LEOPARD MAN 8. THE MUMMY (1932) 9. WHITE ZOMBIE (1931) 10. I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE 11. BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) 12. WEREWOLF OF LONDON (1935) 13. MAD LOVE (1935) 14. VAMPIRE BAT (1933) 15. THE OLD DARK HOUSE (1932) 16. NOSFERATU (1922) 17. VAMPYR 18. FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN 19. THE RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE (1943) 20. MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE (1932) Whew, tough! For honorable mention as spoofs: 1. ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN 2. YOU'LL FIND OUT 3. THE GORILLA 4. THE GHOST BREAKERS
  18. Fred, I will agree, awesome flick!!! I actually watched that and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN a week or so ago, as I finally broke down and purchased the Universal box set of some of the "Frankenstein" films, put out a few years ago. I mainly purchased it to get the commentaries, and those are great, I may add!
  19. Miss Wonderly, I totally grooved hard to STRANGE BARGAIN!!! Very low budget RKO, it takes the "Leave It To Beaver" realm and tosses in some crime and underbelly stuff to mix it up good! It's not a GREAT film by any measure, but it was very watchable and sucked me in for it's entire relatively short running time. Plus a slick turn by Henry Morgan as a wily detective. Hope TCM airs it again soon so you can catch it! I hung in for DARK PASSAGE, always dig that flick, same with WHITE HEAT. I had to eventually do some stuff, and missed most of THEY LIVE BY NIGHT and SIDE STREET, though I did see part of HIS KIND OF WOMAN, and most of SUDDENLY, which I always like to watch no matter how many times I've seen it (same with most of these others)! All in all, a very groovy noir-kinda day
  20. I really grooved to part 1! Awesome stuff, including the short films that were shown throughout the evening! I really hope that when they release the documentary box set that they include some of these films as extras, that would be really groovy!
  21. Really dug STRANGE BARGAIN!!! Nice little mystery with a twist, with noir overtones! Also really enjoyed DARK PASSAGE!! Though I've seen it a zillion times, never fails to impress! Up next: WHITE HEAT!!
  22. Grooving on the MAD LOVE and THE LEOPARD MAN posters! Very cool!
  23. What a great day of flix!!! Including one I've never seen before!!! If you are loving crime and noir films, you will be grooving hard on Monday, Nov 1st on TCM!!! 6am STRANGE BARGAIN--never saw this one before and totally looking forward to it! This is followed by DARK PASSAGE (Bogie and Bacall!!), WHITE HEAT (Cagney!!), THEY LIVE BY NIGHT, SIDE STREET, HIS KIND OF WOMAN (really looking forward to this one!!), SUDDENLY (Frankie Sinatra doing some amazing work!) and WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS. Rock out!
  24. Still catching up with it all as I had to work on Friday (darn work it gets in the way of my TCM watching!!). Loving all of it! I particularly enjoyed the horror spoof with The Bowery Boys as I haven't seen that before! I'm really looking forward to THE GHOUL, particularly after all the positive comments here--will catch that soon!
  25. Really looking forward to this weekend! Thank you, TCM!!! For an AWESOME lineup of classic horror!
