I also love Dana Andrews! Of course, doesn't hurt that he's in a lot of noir films, but as others have mentioned, he's good in non-noir too! Something about his smooth voice, and his on-screen manner. He just feels like someone I'd enjoy having a few drinks with in a seedy bar somewhere.

MFF, I'm totally in favor of that suggestion! A great idea for a Sat morning!
In fact, I'm digging the Bowery Boys slot every Saturday, but I think a GREAT idea is one I've heard on this board in the past---a Sat morning block of shorts, classic cartoons, a serial chapter, and a series film. That would be so cool!!

Musicalnovelty-I'm so sorry to hear of your cable issues! I hope it came back on before prime-time hit?

I agree with that! I found a set on Amazon with the 3 versions, and I think I'll be getting that soon! Gotta dig Warren William!

I woke up early and caught part of it, will watch in its entirety later, but wow! Great stuff!
IMO, the 3 ladies here--Bebe, Thelma (natch!!) and Una--smoke their counterparts in the 41 version, but it's overall best not to compare too much (though somewhat inevitable). The pre-code elements definitely make this a racier version, which I adore, of course!
And my man Dwight Frye is in this!

Came home to shorts galore!!! I'm totally digging this! Thank you, TCM!!!
These shorts with Patsy Kelly are hilarious! Love the backing music to these Hal Roach shorts too!

Awesome, very cool! Thanks for sharing that!

I just got home from work a short time ago...and lo and behold there are glorious Thelma Todd shorts on the air, thanks to TCM!!!! Wow! I love the backing music for these Hal Roach shorts!! Thelma is amazing!!! This is rockin!!!

LZ that is a GREAT post and pretty much sums up my feelings about The Duke, other than thinking he was just an OK actor, but a GREAT, AWESOME movie star! And that's ok!
-
Thank you, Miss Wonderly!!! I get fired up about the classic films, particularly the early 30's flix!!!
-
With glee, with reckless abandon!!! Arch, totally cool! I'm clearing the DVR today so that I can get the entire day! It rocks--totally!!!

Here, here!
I will say that I was introduced to Thelma thanks to TCM!!! They had an evening devoted to her a few years ago, and that was also my intro to Wheeler and Woolsey!!! TCM rules!

Filmlover, thank you very much for the feedback, much appreciated!!!
And OMG, you are so right about the Torchy set, wow, I would not have seen that unless you mentioned it! I love the 30's mystery series and this is a GREAT price for this set, I'll be getting it right away!!! Don't want to miss that price, wow!
Thanks again for the great info!

MissWonderly, as long as Ben continues to introduce films from the classic era, I'll be a fan!
I also think he's cool, I have no problems with him at all. I do tend to love the older folks, but I think it's cool to have someone like Ben introducing films from the 30's and 40's!

It's a nice day, though I'm catching up today mostly! But I love many of Fonda's films, I've never had the chance to see FIRECREEK before and I'm looking forward to that (from DVR), and I totally love 12 ANGRY MEN, and of course THE WRONG MAN and THE BIG STREET are groovy! It's very cool to have a 1939 film in prime time too! I've never seen that one before!
-
I'm in an early 30's mode today (always a great place to be), grooving hard to Gilbert's early talkies as well as THE HOT HEIRESS from Walter Pidgeon's day! Awesome stuff, and Thelma Todd is in this too, wow!

I second that!!!

Oh yeah, baby, I'm loving it!!!!!!!
Thelma...wow she makes my heart sing!!! And so many early 30's films in one fun-filled day! Darn I wish I had the day off, but it's ok I will just enjoy most of it next weekend, as I'm grooving on Gilbert's films this weekend!
-
Arch, very cool, and I agree with you 100%!!! Would love to see more Gilbert!!! I think it's been suggested that a documentary and box set would be cool, and I agree with that! I'd love to see him as SOTM!! Which would make Gagman and other silent fans very happy as most of his work was in the silent era! I'd dig it too!
I'm watching WAY FOR A SAILOR now, GREAT early talkie, with Wallace Beery! Grooving hard!

First of all, I want to fully support the release of classic (I'm talking mostly pre-1960 stuff) films. I have a limited budget but have been buying up stuff on Amazon lately, with more to get. Question I have is this: I want to get both the Chan set (recently released) and the Torchy Blane set, both are available on Amazon for less than what is offered here on TCM. Will that still count in terms of what TCM considers worthy of more box sets? Or should I pony up for a few more bucks and buy the DVD's here?

I agree!!!

I hope TCM will air more of those!!! Watching Leon Errol tonight in THE CAPTAIN HATES THE SEA made me jones for them so much more!!! A box set is needed, please????!!! They are sooooo funny! Hope to see them soon!

Yes, and I edited my entry to reflect that! Gosh, sorry about that!

Musicalnovelty, I agree! I especially think HIPS, HIPS, HOORAY is one of their very best. They were best in the pre-code era for sure!
