Just an update to this thread... Someone on another board was able to help me find the movie I was looking for. It is called SCARED TO DEATH (1947), if anyone is interested in checking it out. Bela Lugosi stars and this was the only color film he ever made. Someone else described it as "wonderfully cracked" with a "senseless plot", which I would have to agree with! Dear bollywood101, Thank you so much for giving me the title of the movie (Scared to Death - 1947)! Since it is in the public domain, a quick search found a copy of it online, so within minutes I was able to download and watch a streaming video of it with my mom. She said it is the right movie, and gave her chills to see it again, especially the first time the mask appears at the window! :-) We also burned a DVD of it, but the audio doesn't match up with the video, so she has also ordered it online for a few bucks (like you said) to see if it's a better copy. You were the first one to write back with the correct information, and I wanted to write you back immediately, but we got engrossed in watching the film, and then life got busy for awhile afterwards. But, I did want to eventually get around to thanking you for your help--better late than never, I hope! So, again, many, many thanks in helping me find this movie for my mom!

My mother talks about a scary movie she saw as a kid when her school showed it. She cannot remember much, so I'm having a very hard time finding it. I'm hoping someone here will recognize the few details I have, which isn't much... She would have seen it back in about 1947-1950, so this is probably a late 30's or early to mid 40's film. According to her, it was a color film. About all she can remember is a woman who keeps seeing scary faces outside of the house she is in. Even on the second floor of the house, these faces would appear outside the window, etc. The faces were blue/green and menacing/grimacing in nature. She said they were sort of floating or undulating. The woman would of course scream in terror at the sight of these faces, and she couldn't figure out what they were or why they were bothering her. The house the woman was in was not a haunted house or mansion or anything like that; it just looked like a modern home for the time. Mom thinks she remembers sinister sounding organ music possibly playing as the faces appeared outside the woman's windows. This woman was young, maybe in her mid twenties, and a brunette, with about shoulder length coiffed hair (sort of curly and in a style representative of the time). Mom thinks the woman may have been living in the house with her father, and that her father may have been a doctor. My mom also says it seems like there were some men in the movie, and that it turned out that someone the woman knew was responsible for the faces and trying to frighten her. There was some reason why they were doing this to the woman, but mom can't remember exactly why. Mom says it seems like they may have done away with the woman's father, and that they were then trying to get her out of the way also...drive her insane...or scare her away from the house...or something! She doesn't know if they were possibly looking to inherit some money, maybe...she just can't remember. That is all the info I have. Unfortunately she doesn't remember any of the actors/actresses names, but I am really hoping someone here can recognize something from these fragments and help us out because mom has been remembering this movie for over 50 years and would like to find it and watch it again.
