    Ugaarte,

In case you haven't tried it, try the browser Mozilla! http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

It's a lot faster and has less glitches than Internet explorer. I switched last year after I was trying to read a baseball blog that when it got close to 1000 posts, if I hit refresh, it would take up to 5 minutes! And it would freeze the computer for 5 minutes. People kept saying it was only taking them 40 seconds and they were using Mozilla, so tried it, and now use it about 90% of the time.

    > Goldie, girl if you haven't done it yet and if you have do it again for me give that honey bunny of yours a kiss and squeeze you know for your birthday. I for one would like to see Foul Play on TCM this is a movie with Goldie and Chevy Chase and Dudley Moore it sounds like Dudley is a hoot in it. Happy Belated Birthday Goldie!

I'm pretty sure TCM has run Foul Play(Much to some folks chagrin) and they ran "Seems Like Old Times" last month. Really don't like Chevy Chase much, but they make a very good team together. Her Film with Steve Martin, Housesitter, is one of the better comedies of the 90's, IMHO.

OH, and VP, very nice job on Goldie a few years back! Can't believe she's 63!!!

  4. Was just checking out the once bustling "shorts" branch of the forum and saw that WB child star Sybil Jason had posted! A poster above me mentioned she should post on the General or Hot topics , but since she hadn't yet, and thinking that few people would even know about this , I thought I'd mention it here! And they just showed the 1936 short, the *Changing of the Guard* (1936) this morning, right after The Lady Vanishes. She is the 3rd post from the bottom, xchildstar is the handle....

    http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?messageID=8176119

  5. yodobon, you are so right! Greetings Ms Jason! TCM just ran *THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD* this morning! Hope you will post some here from time to time...

in fact, so people will know you have been here, I'll mention this thread elsewhere so folks will know...this part of the forum is a bit of a hidden room right now!

  6. One that isn't too likely to play on TCM, but is finally available for purchase, is Abbott and Costello's It Ain't Hay, which hasn't ever been available on home video in any way shape or form, for some rights issue(Anyone know the story?) but is just now available on a very expensive box set only....

  7. Yep! If not that, at least a half hour show on the weekends. A pre Dave O'Brien short is on Thursday/Friday night.

2:35am [short Film] Short Film: One Reel Wonders: Wild And Woolly (1931) (1931)

A Pete Smith short showcasing a western-style rodeo with bronco riding, steer wrestling (bulldogging), and bull riding.

    Cast: Pete Smith BW-9 mins

Sorry, I should have been(much) clearer. This is just in their DVD bins. Their website is kind of a joke. Can only buy a very few things there.

They are in and around the Atlanta area, though I thought I saw one out in L.A. a few years ago..... Just checked, they are in LA as well. Have to put in a city to find stores, can't just click on states like some website.. They are a slight step up from Dollar stores. They really do get some good movies. But they will then run dry for a few months. Been pretty steady the last 3 months or so.

    > "Swing High, Swing Low" is admittedly in terrible shape -- strange considering it was Paramount's top money-maker for 1937. Here's what happened:

    >

    > In 1948, Fox did a remake of "Swing High, Swing Low" (which in itself was adapted from an earlier story and film) called "When My Baby Smiles At Me." Paramount lent its 35mm archive copy to Fox (for study, I presume), and no one knows what happened to it. Director Mitchell Leisen had his own print, but it was 16mm. The film also fell into the public domain, so the studios had little interest in retrieving it. Most current prints aren't at the full original running time (although I believe the Goodtimes Home Video version issued in the late '80s comes closer than the others). So don't blame TCM for the bad print.

That's interesting, did not know that! I'm just surprised TCM would show a film in that poor a shape. Kinda cool in a way that they do.

  10. Hey, just checked out the schedule for Christmas Eve, some very interesting films! Some of the usual , but very good suspects earlier in the day, and then during prime time....

The 8 PM (EST) film is one I have never heard of, *The Cheaters* (1945) A pretty good cast for a non John Wayne Republic film! Anyone see this before???

From IMDB A wealthy family is preparing for Christmas in their usual stylish fashion (Eugene Pallette and Billie Burke play the parents.) They hit on a bright idea that will make them outstanding durng this holiday season among their friends. They will adopt a "lost man" and bring him to their house for the holidays. They find a news story of a washed-up actor (Joseph Schildkraut) who has attempted to commit suicide and bring him to their home. The actor proves far more than they bargained for and he shows them some real truths about giving and living.

Then at 9:30 PM, Ernst Lubitsch's last film, (And A TCM premiere I recall Robert Osboure saying months ago after another Lubitsch film )

    From TCM...

    *Cluny Brown* (1946)

A servant girl's passion for plumbing shocks London society.

Cast: Jennifer Jones, Charles Boyer, Peter Lawford. Dir: Ernst Lubitsch.

    Sounds Christmasy! ;)

And at 11:15 PM, a film mentioned by others, and very much worth seeing,

    *Remember the Night* (1940)

An assistant D.A. takes a shoplifter home with him for Christmas.

Cast: Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Beulah Bondi. Dir: Mitchell Leisen. BW-94 mins, TV-G

Just clicked on the 25th to see what was on, and they are doing something very interesting....Running the Cheaters and Remember the Night a 2nd time! Bravo! Great for folks on the west coast! The TCM programmers really put some effort into this, hats off guys and gals!!! :)

    4:45am [Drama] *Cheaters, The* (1945)

An unemployed actor tries to save a young innocent from greedy relations.

Cast: Joseph Schildkraut, Billie Burke, Eugene Pallette. Dir: Joseph Kane. BW-86 mins

6:15am [Comedy] *Remember the Night* (1940)

An assistant D.A. takes a shoplifter home with him for Christmas.

Cast: Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Beulah Bondi. Dir: Mitchell Leisen. BW-94 mins,

    8:00am [Western] *Three Godfathers* (1936)

Three fugitives risk their lives to bring a newborn baby out of the desert to safety.

Cast: Chester Morris, Lewis Stone, Walter Brennan. Dir: Richard Boleslawski. BW-81 mins,

    > Why yes, ILRM, I am back! I apologize for my very long absence. Things started to get out of hand when Ike barreled through Houston(where I live). My house suffered excessive damage, so I am currently living in a hotel. I have been out of home since September 15, and I am getting very tired of hotel life. It ain't fun, I tell ya. So I have come back to these good ol' message boards. Although I will not be on as often I was before Ike, I will check in every once and a while, and maybe my visits will become more frequent. Anyway, I am very glad to see you haven't forgotten your Mizzini!

I'm very sorry to hear this! Hopefully, you will be back in your house sooner rather than later!

  12. Anyone checked out the DVD's at Big Lots of late??? For awhile they have had a bunch of Sony/Columbia films for $3, almost all without drill holes or cut out marks.

Stuff like.... *Fugitive Kind* with Brando, *The Prisoner* with Alec Guinness, *Pride of the Yankees *(MGM release) *Moulin Rouge*, *Run Silen*t, *Run Deep*, *Hallelujah Trail*, *Custer of the West*, and many other newer releases.

Don't think about turning around and selling them on Amazon, cuz they are that price or cheaper there I have found...but, really good prices, and I imagine if they are in the bins, they are soon to be out of print.....

    > Did anyone catch Florida Friebus (Dobie Gillis) in a small part as Joan's mother? How did Jan Sterling get stuck in this mess? I felt like she was gritting her teeth in all her scenes (LOL).

If you think it's shocking Jan was in the film, how about the fact Jan Sterling was topless in European version film! Really!(I saw the documentary mentioned on this link many years ago!)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051724/board/thread/81607920?d=82905065&p=1#82905065

  14. 10:30 PM, EST.

I thought I might mention this on the Lombard thread, or the Pre-Code section, but then thought more people would catch that it was on this way.

I don't want to overstate this film, but expecting little(not always a fan of Pat O'Brien) I really enjoyed this when TCM ran this several months ago at 7 , 8 AM....I am sure many people didn't see it then. I used to miss a lot of movies at that hour, or forget to look every single day.

Can't exactly put my finger on it, why I liked it so much. It's a Columbia film, made in 1932. You see a few scenes that really look like they were filmed on a real street corner, not just a studio backlot. The director Edward Buzzell was just starting out as well, and I think young directors often make more interesting films than they do later on, not all, but some.

And very surprisingly, Lombard and O'Brien made a good couple. Of course, this was early in O'Brien's career, and Carole seemed to bring out the best in all her leading men. Even Mayo Methot has one of her better roles.

I feel like I mentioned some of this before....oh well. I will be interested in what Robert Osbourne has to say about this film, and the folks here as well!

  15. Peter O'Toole , Dean Stockwell, Gloria DeHaven, Tony Martin.....and some of the others, good suggestions! Don't think anyone mentioned Ricardo Montalban, did they???

As for Doris Day, she did comment on 2 shows on the 5th Doris Day show DVD. Kind of like having teeth pulled to get her to talk about much, except animals on the show, and fashion. I think she did some commentary for the Doris Day Christmas DVD coming out(Think its culled from the TV show, not a special Christmas show)

Chipper, or anyone else....will you please give a heads up if they show this again??? I swear, I pour over the guide via tv, and just plain missed this one! Sounds interesting, did anyone see it???

  17. Don't see a thread mentioning this film running for the very first time(Dish said it was a premiere on TCM at least). It was buried with a 8:30 AM running. It's kinda-sorta a sequel to Lady for a Day, with May Robson not called Apple Annie, but 'Patsy' Patterson, a messy, hard drinking lady, with Walter Connolly as a judge and Roger Pryor as the love interest.

It's no Lady for a Day, but it's quite entertaining, May Robson was a terrific actress. I don't think I have ever seen a bad Lombard film.(Too bad she didn't do a real fan dance though! ;) The weakest link to me, besides a few plot holes, was Roger Pryor as the love interest.

Anyway, if you missed it, TCM is running it again next month, though it's on late on the East coast, 12:45 AM EST Monday/Tuesday on the 6th.

Love TCM digging up these obscure(at least to tv) Columbia films!!
