  1. I try not to look at things as old or new. Gone With The Wind, Wizard Of Oz, Citizen Kane were filmed a few decades ago but can they be remade better, no. ....I had a chance last week to see the new True Grit DVD on which I passed, telling the wife that I don't ever care to see it and I think the John Wayne movie with it's actors, scenery and music was perfect. Later she told me she didn't finish the new DVD either. .....Of course the new versions of The Pink Panther and such fall short of the originals. .....The old version of Of Mice and Men is far better than the new one thanks to Burgess Merideth and Lon Chaney Jr. ......

So they can come up with Blue Ray....3D.....so what ?...Is that it ?.....Then the BASIC question may be : Why watch the new movies ???

TCM does show these movies without commercials and has yet to get into the strange and stupid computer pop ups that walk through movies on other channels. It is strange to be watching Sound Of Music and see Shrek walk across the screen saying he is coming on next.

So in answer to why watch older movies....Why not ? ......also The Godfather is now 4 decades old so is it no longer a good movie ?......Saving Private Ryan is now a decade old, should we put it in mothballs ? ....are we to only watch the newest latest thing, good or bad, because it is now the rage and filmed in 3D, which I might add should have a warning label...3D video games can cause epileptic reactions and 3D movies probably can cause the same problem in some people.

  2. I just don't get Ben Stiller. To me, he's not funny. Some of the actors around him are funny, but I don't think he is. I think his movies would be funnier if only he wasn't in them.

Now Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy are funny.

But comedy is relative, as we all get a load of on holidays.

  4. Another one like this is the Gable movie last week. Stalins soldiers chasing him in car chase. Drives car into sea wearing stolen USSR uniform. A second later in water is just in his swim suit. That was pretty funny...but it's a good movie. Gable risks life to rescue wife. A Happy Ending.

  5. Yes, Austria, and it made you think, just like me. Plus, I have seen mob nationalism in the USA and in most nations. After this I watched the news, and the anti mosque nationalism. Of course Iran is total nationalism and no human rights. Things in this movie continue today. Stewart is the bad liberal because he refuses to play follow the leader. This movie makes you think....and I like that.

  6. It made me think of " Judgement At Nuremburg ". Yes, many Germans WERE to blame. ....No Happy Ending ? of course not....In this movie, people die... 1940 Germany was more bleak than Chaplins comedy. I was impressed how the actors gave of themselves to this important movie. Probably the best movie alot of people have never seen.

  7. Movies like, " Some Like It Hot ", get shown almost every week. Some movies get beat to death. I was not alive in 1940, so " Mortal Storm " was a new movie to me. Jimmy Stewart, Robert Young, Frank Morgan, Ward Bond, Robert Stack ! I thought it was better than 1940, " The Great Dictator ". It captured mob rule and the nationalist elimination of human rights. Since nations and flags still try to eliminate free speach, this movie has a message for today as well. Hoping to see more of the less shown movies, and less of the monthly standards.

  8. I like Gump, and Shawshank. Gary Sinise, Sally Field, James Whitmore, Bob Gunton all very good supporting performances. I didn't notice how good Sally Field was the first viewing. Mom saying good-bye to son going to Vietnam a touching scene. She ages and dies, loving her son. She's great.
