I find that the films of the 1970's can absolutly be considerd "Classic" and most of them are just a product of the decade itself. Especially movie from the traumatic late 60's to post Vietnam, and Post Watergate. This can be seen in other art forms at the time as well. "The Last Detail" for me was interesting because director Hal Ashby and screenwriter Robert Towne had substituted profanity for violence (not that it does not get violence at all).
