I am new to this board. I must find the other Cavett threads another poster mentioned. And again, I am not anti-Cavett. I think he was particularly good at what he did. I just want to see the movies.
Re the Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas comments: My taste ran more to the former than the latter. Something about Douglas didn't resonate with me as much as Griffin. Totally subjective mind you. Just my opinion. Merv Griffin seemed to get away with murder with his guests but did it in such an innocuous way that I found him amusing. And I always had this sense that he knew personally a lot of his guests. I was particularly impressed with Merv's band. He had people like Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, and Jack Sheldon in it and I was amazed that such wonderful musicians were paid to sit there each show. And leave us not forget Merv's partner, Arthur Treacher. How did he ever get that role? Yet it all fit somehow. And I got to see such a variety of acts something that is sadly missing now a days. If you watched these shows you got the latest British groups, The Motown sound, the folk singers, the opera cats, the crooners. It was a wonderful mix and exposed the listener to much more than we will ever hear again.

Please stop running reruns of the Dick Cavett Show.
Dick Cavett is a terrific interviewer with a wry and intelligent sense of humor. I used to enjoy his program when it first aired. And I would still occasionally watch it, IF IT WAS ON A STATION OTHER THAN TCM.
TCM is my life line to evening television viewing. It is the single most important reason why I pay an ungodly amount of money to my cable company each month. I try to get all my chores done in time for the 8pm movie, uncut and full screen. I love it. But lately I have been bumping up against Mr. Cavett. Please keep TCM as it should bee. Show the movies. Let another cable station carry the Cavett show. I depend and rely on TCM for movies I can not get any where else. Don't become another AMC or BRAVO and lose your direction. Stay focused on what you do best.....SHOW THE MOVIES.
I would rather watch a Katharine Hepburn film than hear her discussion of it.
