We thought the movie was a complete joke until the break with the commentaries where the host was saying that there was a lot messages about the class status in Mexico and this was Buneul's way of poking fun. If it weren't for the the host's comment, we were about to change it, to be quite honest. But when we were watching it, it was late and we were tired...and now we both really want to see it again.
And now I have to watch Simon of the Desert....I think I just got turned on to whole new genre of movie...lol!
Thanks again!

Rusty,
Thank you for your help!
We started watching the movie mid-way and could not tell what the heck the movie was about...but it intrigued us. We kept busting out laughing and wondering, at first, "is this movie serious??".
After we saw the commentaries on it, we thought "hmmm..." now we both want to watch it again! And thanks to you and Jack...I can buy it and watch it!

Me again...you were right, it was Bunuel. It was called The Exterminating Angel (1962).
THANK YOU!! So much!!!

Thanks for your quick response. I thought maybe that would be it...in fact, one of his movies sounded just like it, Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, but that's not it.
There were comments on it by the 'host' of the show...and I think Mia Farrow was commenting on what a "classic" this was, but my friend and I were thinking "WHAT?!" It was very strange.
It might have been from the '50's or '60's.
Please...any other suggestions would be great. I'm still looking at Buneul....maybe it was. I really thought it was Bergman, but it's not him either. Not Fellini, too.

Trying to find this title! I saw this movie with a friend back in May 2006 on TCM. It was crazy, and it was considered a "genius"/classic, but it was strange! And I think it was Italian, but I could be wrong..but it was definitely foreign.
Here's the premise:
These rich people come to dinner at this big palatial home, only to find that they can't leave. The movie is based upon how these people begin to fall apart and attack each other. In one weird scene, a sheep runs into the room...and I think they kill and eat it. A couple people are on the verge of going insane. Outside a crowd gathers...and only towards the end do you discover they were free to leave all along.
I have been searching for the title...and can't find it. I don't know if there is a way to scroll through the movies shown in past months here. It's an older movie, but not that old.
Please! If anyone can offer suggestions, I would appreciate it! I would like to purchase this movie as a gift.

Movie Title/Foreign Film--Going INSANE

And who hasn't been in THAT position before?!?
The part that had me rolling in the movie, was this sheep just wanders in...and I was tired, almost falling asleep, but I had to watch the end...but I kept thinking Where on EARTH did this sheep just come in from? and then "My gosh, these people are going after this poor sheep!!"
I don't know about you...but I've never been to a cocktail party with wild, roaming sheep. THAT would make it interesting, though.....
