Both versions are great but I almost prefer the original 1934 version. It could be that it's because I love Claudette Colbert so much, not to take anything away from Lana. The daughter still wants to be white but she doesn't treat her mother quite as bad as in the 1959 version.

I guess you being a man has something to do with you not getting Liz's attraction to Montgomery Clift's character. He was one of the most handsome leading men even after his terrible accident. Just watch The Heiress or Red River and you will see him in all his splendid glory. Besides Cary Grant he puts these newer Hollywood "hunks", and i use the term loosely, in their place.
