clore and Swithin, please accept my apologies for putting words in your mouth.
No problem, if I didn't respect you, I would not have diplomatically asked for you to respond. Plus, I was open to the possibility that there was perhaps some error or ambiguity in my statements that could have caused you to say what you did.
My pencils have erasers also.

I don't agree with SprocketMan or Swithin or clore that there's something worthwhile to be derived from every movie-watching experience we have.
I never said that. If you would do me the courtesy of showing exactly that which I had said that could possibly have been misconstrued that way, I'd appreciate it.

So far I've uncovered that they both recorded a song titled "Little Light" but I can't find anything on the authorship.
Scratch that idea, she's not the composer. I'll keep digging.

Was it BABBIT where he played the title character? BIG HEARTED HERBERT is another.
A few years ago, TCM saluted Aline MacMahon's b-day and most of the titles aired had her paired up with Guy Kibbee.
But I like her enough to have suffered with watching him.
-
And that reminds me to add his name to the list, even if he is more of a character actor.
I've long thought that they missed the boat, Kibbee should have been in horror films. There's something ghoulish about him for my money. As if he should have played in some version of the Burke and Hare story, perhaps teamed with Dwight Frye.
Happy Birthday anyway Guy.

The worst sin is to have too much zither music in inappropriate places.

Actually, when I saw the thread title, "boring" was the first thing that popped into my head. Regardless of whether there is a concensus on a particluar movie being boring, I just find that if it doesn't interest me, it's not likely to get a second viewing ever.
I should say that I consider there to be a difference between being boring and not being entertaining. For example, the Costa Gavras film *"Z"* does not entertain me, but it's never dull and I can watch it repeatedly.
But *Resevoir Dogs* while also not entertaining me, and also not being dull, is not likely to get a second viewing because I don't want to have to spend time with those characters again.

I remember when *Gone With the Wind* came out on VHS. People must have thought they were getting a bargain since it was two cassettes for 90 dollars.
I got that *Godfather Saga* for a mere 20 bucks. I had a friend who worked at Paramount and he could get tapes at a huge employee discount.

I bought the first *Godfather* film on DVD a couple of years ago for seven bucks. I see that Amazon has the first sequel for $7.49 now, so I'll probably order that before the week is out. I just have to do some creative packaging to bring the order up to 25 dollars to get the free postage.
I have a commercial VHS of *The Godfather Saga* which is as NBC aired it in chronological order, but with all of the profanity and violence intact. I see used copies of this going for 300 bucks on Amazon - mine has only been played once.
-
The soonest that THE GODFATHER films will be available is January 1, 2020. AMC has the exclusive until then.

I just offered up the only thing that crossed my mind as to why something that only appeared for a few seconds would be deleted. I can't claim to have noticed the last time that I saw the film, perhaps six years ago, whether it was there or not. Harmon had been deceased for what, three or four years now so if he had an objection, it had to have happened further back than that.
-
Not long ago, I spotted Frees looping actor Peter Carsten in DARK OF THE SUN, but it was just in one scene, right before he and Rod Taylor have a fight.
Another candidate is Robert Rietty, he's got to be up there with Frees and Pastell.
-
These days, you never know. Maybe some Bozo objected, claiming that he has the rights to Laurel and Hardy.
By that I mean Larry Harmon (the original Bozo albeit not the creator of the character) who has made Laurel and Hardy cartoons and even a feature film using their names and images.
-
That was it - I knew I spotted him doing Mifune in something the other day. Thanks for the correction.
Toshiro Mifune was not in TTT. Besides all the Japanese in it spoke Japanese, obviating the need to have their voices dubbed.
But Frees did do a voice in TORA, TORA, TORA, that of actor Shogo Shimada speaking English while playing Ambassador Nomura. It's unmistakably recognizable.
-
You could spot Frees the other night during TORA, TORA, TORA doing the voice for Toshiro Mifune.
True story:
When we went to "The Hall of Presidents" at Disney World in 1980, even my six year old son noticed that all the Presidents sounded the same. It was Frees doing all the voices. He even mentioned that it sounded like some cartoon character which I've long since forgotten. It may have been one of those Rudolph or Frosty specials instead of a cartoon.
I do remember explaining to him that this was someone known for doing different voices and the wiseguy kid said "They don't sound different."
For years there was a rumor that Frees had to loop some dialogue for Bogart in his last film THE HARDER THEY FALL. Even Frees denied it, but it still surfaces now and then.

According to my saved schedules, FALLEN SPAROW aired in Dec 2009, May 2010 and Aug 2010.
BLACKWELL'S ISLAND aired in August 2011.

Did the CAGNEY WARNER's set include RKO's GREAT GUY?
GREAT GUY was produced by Grand National and is in the public domain now.

I'm not trying to be deliberately obtuse here, but I suggest that your friend try using a search engine with the phrase "copy netflix streams" as the criteria. Several programs do appear in the results.
I'm doing it that way so that neither TCM nor I be considered as endorsing the practice.
By the way, I confess to a certain level of internet paranoia and given that yesterday was the start date for Google's new privacy (or lack of it) policy to go into effect, one may wish to consider another search engine in this case.

For anyone interested, Antenna TV will have a memorial marathon of all MONKEES episodes starting on Saturday at 5pm Eastern time.

Years ago, I knew someone who worked in one of the commercial video duplication companies and he questioned the futility of the copy protection attempts. "Whatever can be done can be undone" he would say.

When I had SD boxes, I used my Samsung similarly. The ZOOM 1 mode would just take any widescreen process and increase the picture proportionately to reach the sides of the screen. No distortion, no need to look at black bars on the side.
-
An Academy ratio film should look pretty much the same on either channel. There may be a slight difference in picture quality but the dimensions should be identical
Yes it should, but recent telecasts of *Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde* and *Joan Of Arc* were actually aired in widescreen on the HD channel but were in the proper ratio on the SD channel.
Interesting that one poster claimed to have two SD channels and one HD channel for TCM. On my Time Warner system, I have two HD channels and one SD.

Brian Keith also had a short-lived series titled ARCHER and based on the Ross Macdonald character.

I saw FRENCHIE about 40 years ago. It flips the original a bit, it's Shelley Winters as the titular character who is in search of vengeance while also presiding over the gambling in town. McCrea gets all the folksy lines of the character Destry (renamed in this film), but he appears less motivated than Frenchie.
It's pleasant enough, but even the Audie Murphy take on DESTRY is preferable.
I really wish they could have dug up THE SILVER CORD for McCrea month.

I made it thjrough BABBITT, but only because of Aline MacMahon. Most of the films they had selected that day did pair MacMahon and Kibbee, so I was really proving my loyalty. They made ten films together and they aired about six of them.
I will admit that THE MERRY FRINKS was the most severe test of the batch.
