  2. He was brilliant as "Birmingham" in Charlie Chan movies!
  3. Good Movie but Holy Cow the subtitles made you wish you enrolled in the" Evelyn Woods" speed reading class!
  4. If your going to fire Molly Haskell, sign me up! To diss Sierra Madre is the ultimate in biased and misplaced bad reviews. She sucks!
  5. I always believed that LBJ made the bullets and all the assassins used them to massacre JFK. John Fitzgerald Kennedy considered Lyndon a joke and sent him to meaningless junkets like Egypt and India when he was Vice-President. There LBJ made international news by making friends with a Camel driver. He wasn't even included or consulted in the discussion during the "Bay of Pigs" and "The Cuban Missiles Crisis", even though he was Vice-President, something that LBJ thought as a blatant oversight. There was bad blood between them prior to the elections with Johnson hating the whole Kennedy clan. Kennedy was forced to accept Johnson as a running mate as Vice-President so he could carry some of the Southern States, and don't think that LBJ didn't know that. LBJ was an old style politician using any means both legal and illegal for approval for his various programs. He would intimidate those who did not agree with him and if they didn't change their minds put them in a less honorable and meaningless job. He was a "Big Texas Bastard" and was as cunning as a fox. The first question I asked upon hearing JFK was assassinated was,"Where was that sneaky bastard Lyndon Baines Johnson"? The fact that he moved all of JFK's Furniture out of the oval office the very next day after the assassination ( November 23, 1963 ) proves he was a heartless bastard who's only concern was tight **** the office of the President. "A BIG TEXAS HEARTLESS BASTARD"! Bartlett

  7. > Any Mel Gibson film. As soon as his name appears in > the credits I start to cry. As I understand "Mad Max" is getting together "The Road Warriors" to meet you at "Thunderdome" to settle this matter with you Ken!
  8. Mongo, I am on a Burt Lancaster kick on my VCR lately. I've watched 1950's "The Flame & the Arrow" and am now watching 1952's "The Crimson Pirate". In both movies Nick Cravet co-starred. In "The Crimson Pirate" they made Cravet a mute character because Mr. Cravet talked with a heavy Eastern Coast accent. My question is I know Lancaster was an acrobat as well as Cravett. Were they friends in real life and did they ever work together in a circus or acrobat act before both went into the movies to give us great entertainment? As usual thank you in advance for your reply Mongo! Bartlett
  9. How about 1953's campy "Robot Monster" and 1957's good ones "20 Million Miles to Earth" and "Kronos"? Bartlett
  10. That's a great idea Ken, but it seems the movie goers theses days are only interested in Spiderman and Shrek!
  11. > Did the CIA deliberately pull the rug from under > Kennedy during the Bay of Pigs invasion in order to > tell the President who is really in charge. Funny > thing Allen Dulles, who JFK " fired" ( the cover > story was retired ) as head of the CIA, over the > Cuban invasion, was named by LBJ to the Warren > Commission. They didn't make it easy for him. The plans for the "Bay of Pigs" fiasco started under the Eisenhower administration but got muddled when Francis Gary Powers was shot down with his U-2 disaster. Eisenhower put a hold on the invasion because of the U-2 incident and realized that the invasion would have to occur after the 1960 elections. He jumped into the endorsement of Nixon for President too late to save the elections for the Republicans. Kennedy came into office and was caught with his pants down regarding the invasion carefully planned by Eisenhower's advisors, one being as you mentioned Allen Dulles, and was more or less coerced into approving the invasion being he was in office only three months. There's a lot to be said about LBJ not only did he name Dulles to the Warren Commission, but Gerry Ford! Bartlett
  12. This is fascinating to me. I didn't know that the Nazis produced this type of movie during World War 2! Why do you think they decided to make a film of the Titanic disaster? I know Goebbels hated England as well as Hitler, is it because its a disaster movie and it shows the incompetence of the British crew? Could you go into more details as to why Goebbels hanged the director for treason? ( Some Critic) To your knowledge were there any other blockbuster movies made by the Nazis that might be shown in the future? This is going to be very interesting to watch! Bartlett
  13. HOLY TOLEDO!! Hot-Cha-Cha! Oh you Kid! You are SWELL!! ( The Cat's Pajamas) Nice picture Mongo! Bartlett
  14. It may be possible Ken, I know that the Military did not like Kennedy when he elected not to back the Cubans trying to regain Cuba in the Bay Of Pigs invasion of April 1961. Nikita Khrushchev in Russia also thought that Kennedy was a weak president because of it. When he met Kennedy in the Paris peace talks in June 1961, he detected a "soft" personality, and decided there and then to arm Cuba with offensive missiles. Well we all know what happened during the "Cuban Missile Crisis", in October 1962! It is said that this was the beginning of the end for Khrushchev concluding in the fall of 1964.
  15. Threw 7 days in May in the old VCR last night. This movie still held up after all these years and Lancaster, Douglas, March and O'Brien all perfect in the roles!
  16. Thanks for the info Ken, I've got a lot of reading to do. This stuff is dynamite!
  17. Fascinating stuff Ken, what was Bobby & Jack Kennedys roles in the hearings? I know Bobby not long after the hearings set his sights on Jimmy Hoffa. Is it me or is it a tad strange that the very first post of mamamia endorses Linda Alexanders book, than follows up in a few minutes time with the second post surprised that the thread was started by Linda. 18. Isn't "The Curse of the Cat People" what Jack Lemon gave to Walter Matthau in "The Odd Couple" when Oscar threw Felix out of the apartment? Bartlett
  19. A bowl of Ravioli for the correct answer. Your turn!
  20. I was a former Beauty Queen, who became a success by making films in my country. At first in the United States, I was unable to work for several years due to the fact that the "Odd Ball" I signed a contract with did not pick up my option. I did become an International Star eventually, but decided to retire for my real love in life my photography and sculpturing. I did return from my retirement for a period as a regular on a popular "Soap Opera" television series. I am still news worthy as evidence in the publicity I have received a couple of months ago. Do you know me? Bartlett
  21. Besides "Love Me or Leave Me' another Cagney classic. "Public Enemy" ( 1931 ) "I wish you were a wishing well so I can tie a bucket on you" and a smash to the face with a juicy grapefruit to the kisser of "Kitty" ( Mae Clark ) the paramount of male domination scenes.
  22. Thanks Mongo! Great information as usual Mr. Question and Answer Man!
  23. Mongo, I always marveled at the different varietys of movies that came out of the RKO Radio Pictures Studios. Most of the latter movies seemed to be the "B" pictures ( Co-Features). I know that Howard Hughes took control of the studio and made some pretty good movies at the start. As he progressively became an odd-ball it seem to have an effect on pictures produced by the studio. Was this the major contributing factor of the studio's collapse or were there a combination of things that I never read about? Thanks Mongo! Bartlett
