I truly believe that Robert Taylor tried to sacrifice the career of Howard DaSilva by back stabbing him to save his own career by his testimony. What he did was a cowards way out and had no trace of scruples on his part.

Thank you all for your explanations. I think you hit the nail on the head Dr. Dobbs! What you described has all the symptoms of what ails my cable. I don't have a dish but am hooked up through telephone polls outside. Sweetbaby, I hope you are a John Wayne fan LOL! Bartlett

Have you ever noticed the more obscure films that TCM shows has numerous freeze frame occurance's? Are they trying to tell us..."Don't bother trying to Tape this"? It happened on two of the last three movies today, the latest "13 Ghosts"! Am I getting paranoid or is this a conspiracy to not tape a movie unless you'll settle for freeze frames in it. Bartlett

Don't be ashamed of that Mongo. With what you did on your Birthday Thread on a daily basis, I don't even know how you had time to go to the bathroom. You did a fantastic job and are continuing to do so with your "Ask Mongo" ( Remember Vittles? ) and your "In the Spotlight" thread. As I said in my post yesterday on the "Happy Birthday" thread, I miss it terribly but am grateful that Jack Burley is posting what you put together last year. ( I must remember to add one for each age though, a difficult task for me. ) Thank you Mongo! Bartlett

TCM Sells Out - Pan & Scan - Quiller Memorandum
Bartlett replied to Ham_Dog's topic in General Discussions
Obviously you are not a regular viewer of TCM. If you were you would recall the feature that TCM shows frequently concerning "Letterbox" movies. They interview among others Martin Scorsese and Sydney Pollack who both discuss the advantages of letterbox. Among other films they talk about the chariot race scene of 1959's "Ben Hur" and 1954's dance scenes of "Seven Brides for 7 Brothers". If they didn't support the idea, then they wouldn't show this 5 minute clip. Bartlett -
James Cagney throwing Doris Day on the bed and her crying and trying to beat him with her fists and the classic fade-out in "Love Me or Leave Me".

> and the Kevin Bacon tie-in makes > perfect sense. At the beginning of the movie you will note that Steve Martin and Kevin Bacon run for a taxi-cab that just went on duty. Martin loses the race when he trips over the trunk that was owned by John Candy, and Bacon salutes Martin as he's lying on the sidewalk just before he enters the cab. Sorry Vallo 13 I just read your response a few minutes after I posted, well at least I got the salute if anything. Bartlett

Just Two! One was a made for T.V. movie starring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams. "Brian's Song". The second was the game of catch with his father... Kevin Costner in "Field of Dreams". Pass the handkerchief please. Bartlett

I said it before, the Titanic home run hit by Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) in The Natural. He hit it while in pain from a gunshot wound he received years before, against a much younger pitcher and the most important game of the season. The light towers exploding while he was running around the bases, the look of his manager ( Wilford Brimley) and coaches ( Richard Farnsworth) as he was running the bases was truly one of the greatest final scenes ever filmed. It was so good it was "Natural". Bartlett

"ROCKY" STILL PACKS PUNCH. THOUGH A SUBTLE ONE!
Bartlett replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
I myself prefer real life boxing stories also. "Cinderella Man" did need a background story of life during the depression. I didn't realize that Braddock went on welfare, but paid the state back with his winnings from his boxing matches until I saw the movie. I also appreciated more why Braddock felt the need to fight, just so his family could survive. As far as boxing fiction movies, my all time favorite is a 1949 gem starring Robert Ryan in a movie called "The Set Up'. It's the story about a washed-up fighter who is told to "dump" a fight by gangsters, but has different ideas. Ryan is outstanding in this film and if you haven't seen it, suggest you get a hold of a copy of it. As far as Rocky goes, I was very disappointed when I saw Rocky 5 but reading some of these reviews makes me get the itch to go see it. That's why I like to read different opinions on these message boards! I agree also that "Million Dollar Baby" was totally silly. -

If you could be in any classic movie.....
Bartlett replied to movielover11's topic in General Discussions
I would love to be Roy Hobbs in "The Natural" so I could break a clock with a gigantic home run and destroy the entire lighting system of a ballpark with a titanic blast that wins the most important game of the season. What a feeling it must be to get a hold of one and watch it smash into the light tower! Bartlett -
Thank you BobHopeFan for pointing that out for those who are blind with rage. I always thought that Marilyn Monroe was a sweet naive innocent victim of others bad intentions. She always saw the good side of people and was susceptible to the cunning and devious intentions of others especially in high Government positions to take advantage of her. Her trust in human beings led to her downfall in her death. It is a shame what happened to her but it can happen to anyone of us as that's how our Government operates today. They pat you on the back with a smiling face on one hand as the plunge the dagger of deceit into your back with the other hand. We think we are safe from this as did Marilyn, but politicians are as cunning as any under world boss and they will get you as sure as they got rid of the wonderfully beautiful Marilyn Monroe. So as they sit in a Florida classroom after being told of the demise of the World Trade Center without doing anything for 18 minutes, and take days to act upon a disaster the such of Hurricane Katrina in the South in the late summer of the year 2005, they will be quick to act when told a movie star will spill the beans in a press conference quicker than you can say "Jack Robinson" and if you don't believe that there is a bridge in Brooklyn that you can buy for a steal. Poor Marilyn this woman was playing against a stacked deck. And if you believe the Government cannot do anything shady, you should permanently reside at Fantasy Land at Disney World, you will be quite at home there. Poor Poor Marilyn Monroe! Peace and a wonderful Merry Christmas especially to you BobHope Fan who are a very special person and should be singled out as the most outstanding poster on these boards. From the botom of my heart thank you! Also to imply to me that I said Marilyn Monroe is a **** while I was quoting John Fitzgerald Kennedy is short of slander. I suggest instead of the "Evelyn Woods" reading course where you can read a 800 hundred page book in five minutes, you should take the time to read word for word what is written. Like observations what we see is what we want to see we also read what we want to read with a pre- conceived conclusion before we finish. So instead of using that axe on me unnecessarily, I suggest you put it to good use and chop down a Christmas Tree instead and try to enjoy tommorrow instead of plotting your next accusation to others. In keeping with the times "Merry Christmas to All everyone of Us". Also I would rather have my grand daughters read the word **** than see a soldier with his head blown off on CNN in Iraq if you must know lzcutter. MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL !!!! > Whatever, 'Grandma'. > > HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. > > > dolores ( The Wacko) I think I will say a prayer to St. Jude the Patron Saint of Hopeless Cases for you during Christmas Services stoneyburke. Because I believe your "Case" is the most "'Hopeless" that I believe St. Jude can handle. "Merry Christmas" .

That is typical of you with your rambling, you must think your the Queen of the Boards. I defy you to go back to any of my posts and come up with telling someone to "Crawl Under your Rock" or try to brow-beat another poster because they have a different opinion! As for my parents I had normal parents and I once again defy you to go back and list any complaints I had about my family life as you do about you dysfunctional family. I have the fortitude to stand up to you unlike others who let you get away with the hate that you spew whenever they disagree with you. It's sad when your defense is to threaten to take away an ID because you don't have it in you to stand toe to toe when someone dares confronts you! You are worse than a troll or any of those you try to imply that I am. You are pathetic! Bartlett

I think the drugs you took in your Hippie Days ( You did mention it in one of your post) are given you flashbacks that you cannot distinguish fiction from reality you poor pathetic thing.

With you as a daughter he must feel like 95 you nasty individual!
-
stoneyburke you are something else! Since I've been on TCM Boards you have accused at least 5 people of being this guy "Aftermath" (Including Me), accused at least 10 people of being a "Troll", told a Cinesage to "Crawl under his rock". Blasted this guy Bradtexasranger and have been nasty to just about everyone who has disagreed with you. I am surprise that no one else has defended themselves before against your sick onslaught! The way you talk about your family especially your 93 year old father leads me to believe you had an abusive childhood which has carried over to your adult life. Your whole world must consist of these boards cause I doubt you are capable of having a loving relationship with the opposite sex from the verbal diarrhea I have read in your responses. You are just a big fish in a little pond and I suggest you seek therapy because it will only get worse for you. Merry Christmas to you and Peace On Earth Good Will To Man. Bartlett

I was just going from several sources similar to the sources I review in the Bible. Of course we weren't there but I was alive during the time and I noticed that Kennedy tried to distance himself the night that Monroe showed up at Madison Square Garden and was introduced by Peter Lawford when she sang the famous "Happy Birthday Mr. President" song a week or so before she died. I don't think that your implying we should not talk about it, I'm sure you have your own theory on the Monroe Case, Martin Luther King Assassination, Robert Kennedy Assassination and John F. Kennedy Assassination. If what you suggest we accept the official version that was issued by the Government on everything that has happened including the 2000 Bush/Gore elections then we are giving up our freedom to think and are letting others do it for us. As far as "Senior Bashing" goes you obviously are not a senior but your day will come and then you will recognize it for what it is!

I have no idea what you are talking about but know enough to get out of a situation that can go from bad to worse. I am surprised that the list is not longer with what goes on these message boards. I am checking out of this sanatorium and leave you inmates to destroy each other. With the exception of BobHopeFan these boards are Looney Tunes!
