Now this is more like it! Mr. Osborne I have been a fan of yours since the early 80's, when you co-hosted the Movie Channel. I was delighted when you signed on to Turner Classic Movies and have since appreciated your insights before and after each movie. You are the King of interviews and I have yet to hear any frivolous or uncomfortable questions directed to who is being interviewed. Be assured there are more of us who appreciate your talent and efforts than those who always voice a negative viewpoint! I was elated when I read of the extension of your contract and look forward to the years ahead as your always a welcomed guest in my house. Thank You! Bartlett

~ The Sand Man ~ (Fred Astaire Favorites)
Bartlett replied to bobhopefan1940's topic in Your Favorites
I like the real Fred Astaire in "The Towering Inferno", when he was looking at the fake bonds he planned to sell to Jennifer Jones. From what I heard in real life he pinched a nickel so hard he made the Buffalo on it scream in pain. He used to throw quarters around like they were manhole covers. He would make his money deposits in Jack Benny's vault next to Fred MacMurray's account. Bartlett -

When I get that time machine I'm going back to June 1968, and play "Stage Door Johnny" at the "Belmont Stakes". He was a long shot that paid around $38.00 to win. I'll bet the ranch and will have enough money to start my own "Classical Movie" cable station. Then I'll play "Proud Birdie"in October 1977, at Belmont Race Track in Queens New York who paid $81.00 to win and have the pleasure to hire Ted Turner, then fire him for selling TCM to Time Warner. I'll buy Time Warner in a Tender Offer that I will effect and then disband them. That's what I would do once I get that Time Machine! Bartlett

Thanks Vallo! Wow $75.00 for the Steel Helmet that's a bit steep but it's good to know at least it's on VHS. Hopefully one day it will go DVD! Thanks again! Bartlett

I remember seeing this film back in the early 50's on Channel 5 in New York. Like "The Story of G.I. Joe" with Burgess Meredith and Robert Mitchum, I have for years been trying to get a copy of this movie. Hopefully the outcome will be the same as G.I. Joe and someone will find a copy in a vault or someone's attic who worked on the film and decided to cop a copy of the film. Another one I'm looking for that I haven't seen in years is a Korean War film called "The Steel Helmet"

"Lover Come Back". Tony Randall is outstanding in this movie!

If I know TCM they will be showing "Easter Parade" that day. -
...So set 'em up, Joe, I got a little story...

How about Frank Sinatra in "Young at Heart". He's the perfect choice as he made famous the threads song. -
June Allyson and Red Skelton

How about these two? 1.- Dwight Frye as Renfield in "Dracula", looking up from the galley in the ship laughing at the two men who discovered he was the only man alive on the ship that was transporting Dracula and his coffin to London. ( Loved that laugh and the next scene when you see a newspaper article calling him a "Raving Lunatic") 2. - "King Kong" when the dinosaur tips over the raft and chases the crew and the last man climbs up a tree and trys to "Kick" the 250 Foot 50 Ton Dinosaur away! ( What a hoot! )

Loved when Cody Jarrett ( James Cagney) killed Big Ed Somers ( Steve Cochran) and said "Catch" and kicked him down the stairs. Also loved when John Belushi gets the hell beating out of him by the "Penguin" ( Nun) in the Blues Brothers and goes down the stairs desk and all. Two more, the classic Richard Widmark pushing the old lady in the wheelchair down the stairs in "Kiss of Death" and Sid Caesar falling down four flights of stairs in "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World". what defines a classic film ? age, year, color ?
Bartlett replied to wheel123's topic in General Discussions
To me a "Classic" is acting, content and message. I know some may be sick of hearing me crow about "Cinderella Man" with Russell Crowe ( Who I couldn't stand) made in 2005, but this one sky rocketed to the top of my all time favorite "Classic" movies. It does not matter to me what decade the movie was made or if in color, B & W, Vista-Vision, 3-D, Metro Color or even an independent production ( i.e. "Stranger Than Paradise"), if it's a picture I thoroughly enjoy it's part of my "Classic" list!
