Just to show you every movie has it's fan, I > actually love Penelope---it cracks me up and I > think Natalie was a talented little comedienne. > > Miss G Sorry, I am a Woods fan but could not sit through that movie one more time. It was a "period" film when that sort of humor was funny. I now feel it is "outdated" unlike her fine performances in "West Side Story" & "Gypsy". I guess by your liking it proves that one mans poison is another's medicine.

If only it could be that way. I rather prefer the way "Defending Your Life" with Albert Brooks and Meryl Streep ended. He had to prove that he was "Brave enough" to go to the next level and made more sense to me than the "Titanic" movie ending. What do you think Fred?

Does everything have to reflect true life? > Let's face it, life sucks most of the time, what's so > bad about having a 2 hour escape? I was just referring to the Waterloo Bridge Movie. I love to escape in a movie. One that I have mentioned several times is "Cinderella Man", of course it's a true story, but I find myself rooting for Russell Crowe to knock out Max Baer. One of my all time favorite escape artists are Laurel and Hardy. I love "The Music Box", where they deliver a piano up a long flight of stairs and because of one reason or another before they reach the top, the piano tumbles down to the sidewalk again. I thought the ending was great in Sayonara with Brando when he told the reporters to say "Sayonara" to those who opposed his marriage to the Japanese dancer/singer. I love feel good movies, don't get me wrong. 7 Brides for 7 Brothers is a feel good movie and one of my favorite musicals. I can watch "Ground Hog Day" many times and still laugh like its the first time. There are certain dramas that must end sad even if you don't want them to end that way. I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression. Bartlett

You are also right and I beg your forgiveness please I will never do it again! I would rather reverse my opinion if it offends anyone and abide by what the majority thinks. I am truly sorry! Bartlett -

> and never > watch Russell Crowe movies, because I dislike him > almost as much as marble mouth Brando, for very much > the same reason, he can't talk, or I can't understand > him, whichever. > Anne I hated Russell Crowe also, but since seeing "Cinderella Man" have done a 360 degree turn on my opinion of his acting abilities. This film is a bio-pic of boxing great James J. Braddock and his struggle to keep his family together during the Great depression. It also has an outstanding performance by Renee Zellweger and Paul Giamatti. I recently commented on the "Good Movies I've just seen" thread and if you like could go there to read my reveiw. As I said before Russell Crowe was on the bottom of my list of favorite actors, but since seeing "Cinderella Man" has sky rocketed towards the top of my favorites. I guarantee if you give this film a chance you will not regret it. It is made like "Old Time Hollywood", and is a "Door Buster", to say the least. Also made in 2005, it is a "Classic" ( I'm one of the one's who think any movie made after 1959 should not be considered classic yet!) Bartlett -

I thought the acting and story in "Cinderella Man" with Richard Crowe's portrayal of James J. Braddock was overwhelmingly better than that tripe "Million Dollar Baby'. First of all it was a true story, with a better plot and far superior than the fictional garbage that the academy thought they owed another one to Eastwood who hasn't made a good movie since "In the Line of Fire". I really believe "Million Dollar Baby" was nominated and won over "Cinderella Man", because the Academy felt like they owed Eastwood another one because both pictures were made in 2005. It is beyond me why "Cinderella Man" a far superior film than "Million Dollar Baby" did not even get nominated ( Maybe the Academy has an unwritten rule that God forbid two boxing films couldn't dare be nominated the same year). If it did go against "Cinderella Man" it would have been ( Like in Boxing) an obvious "Fix" that it won because of Eastwood. That's one persons opinion. Bartlett -

That's a noble idea, how I wish I could tune in on CNN and hear at least half of the new stories with an upbeat ending. No such luck. I appreciate a Bio-Pic that show someone who has a compulsion and conquerors it. You know a real true to life story. The Great Escape is another example of true to life ending when I believe 55 Prisoners out of 76 were mowed down by the Nazi's because they were treated as spy's. Including Big "X" Bartlett! Bartlett

Old enough to know about real life Fred. Pink bows are rare and far between in my life, like many other "Baby Boomers",
-
I hope it doesn't include "Penelope" 1966 - a real stinker and the worse that she made. She must have been desperate for the money when she made that clinker! By the way this box office bomb was recently shown ( of course) on TCM. Bartlett

> Yes, Waterloo Bridge was really good. I'd like to see a new ending to that film.... > the boy makes it back from war with no injuries and > the girl reforms and everyone forgets her past. Sorry, if that were the ending it would not be such a memorable film, I hate movies that end up with a pink bow wrapped around it. Happily ever movies should be limited to fluffy musicals. Real life endings should happen on "Waterloo Bridge".

I like the scene in "Diner" when Kevin Bacon is drunk and destroys the manger while in his underwear. His three friends come to try to stop him. He calls them "Three Wise men". He lays down in the manger and says "My work is done here" and then proceeds to punch the statues of the Three Wise men, the Shepherds and throw a sheep at the manger and destroys not only the manger but the Christmas lights. To conclude this wonderful scene which by the way was recently shown on TCM he proclaims,"This is a Big Smile" This scene to me is what Christmas is all about. Bartlett -
