I worked in Greenwich Village for a time for a branch of a New York Bank. As my friends and I were going to cross the street on 9th Street & Broadway, to go to our local water hole, a voice questioned us saying "What's the best pizza parlor around here"? We turned to the direction of the voice and lo and behold, it was George Carlin. I said "You can't go wrong with Ray's Pizza on 12th Street & University Place". He said "Alright Ray's good call!". We talked to him for about ten minutes and he seemed to be like your next door neighbor you met on the street, instead of a celebrity. Funny guy on stage.....Nice & friendly in person!

The Most underrated Actor, no contest : Charles Bickford.
Part of his resume:
The Plainsmen ( 1937 )
Of Mice & Men ( 1940 )
The Song of Bernadette ( 1945 )
Duel In the Sun ( 1947 )
The Farmers Daughter ( 1947 )
The Babe Ruth Story ( 1948 )
Johnny Belinda ( 1948 )
Whirlpool ( 1950 )
Jim Thorpe - All American ( 1951 )
The Big Country ( 1958 )
The Unforgiven ( 1960 )
Days of Wine & Roses ( 1962 )
As good as Walter Brennan, but seldom ever mentioned, even on this Message Board. To me "The Most Underrated Actor"!

I was horrified when I saw "The Accused" with Jodie Foster, because it was based on a true story. I also liked "Pulp Fiction" until the basement scene with the animal coming out of the trunk dressed in leather. I did not hear any laughter in the movie theater as these rapes of both gender were taking place.

That was in 1976. Frank Sinatra brought Martin to the telethon and surprised Lewis. That was the last time they both appeared together on screen.

I remember American Movie Classics ( When it was good ), showing these between movies. I saw Ellington..Jelly Roll Morton....Louis Armstrong etc. They were very entertaining and I look forward to this program.

Hey Larry, don't knock people who were born on April 1st. Among others there were Debbie Reynolds; Jane Powell; Wallace Berry & Lon Chaney Sr., who's ghost will follow you around today for your laughing at his being born on April 1st!

-
I love William Bendix, when I was growing up! He was Chester A. Riley on television in the 50's sitcom "The Life of Riley" ( He followed Jackie Gleason who played Riley for only one year on TV). What's not to like about him? He was nominated for a co-star Academy Award for 1942's "Wake Island", was Babe Ruth in "The Babe Ruth Story" and a scream as an Umpire with double vision in "Kill the Umpire". Not many people know this but in the Ruth story he really hit a Home Run at Yankee Stadium when they showed him at bat trying for number 60. The game was filmed between a doubleheader and the fans in attendance really stood up and gave Bendix's a standing ovation. He was one of the finest that came out of Brooklyn. If you disagree, try watching Hitchcock's "Lifeboat" and his performance will stagger you!
-
Yes I did! If you haven't (I'm sure you have) check out Vic's performances in Elvis Presley's 1958's "King Creole" (Presley's lead role was going to go to James Dean until his fatal accident) and also 1958's "God's Little Acre". I remember your also a Brando fan, which means like me, you enjoy the method actor. Could you have imagine what it would have been like if James Dean and Vic Morrow ( Both Method actors) were in "King Creole"? BTW they added additional musical scenes in Creole when they decided to pick Presley for the part!

Hello MRSL..I don't believe Mr. RTRiley indicated the name "Cinemascope" on his post. I for one am fed up of all these "Troll" accusations and its time to take the gloves off. I'm As Mad as Hell and I'm Not going to take it Anymore! ( Peter Finch - "Network" )

The Best. I've seen Blackboard Jungle over 100 times and thought he was great!!! Also yes it was strange but then again as Jim Morrison said "People Are Strange". My pleasure to bump it up and thanks for letting me use your reply to Snarfie! Now I'm wondering what that "Sneak" said because he took it off as soon as you showed concern! VIC MORROW LIVES!!!! Do you have room for one more who has been accused of being a "Troll",like you were in the "Honor Roll" along with Bradtexaseanger and KathleenT, with the question who has something in common with the others. ( Being a troll?) Well I don't know if the quota of Trolls was reached yet for the "Puritans" to hang us all (Including you Cinemascope) but if anyone else wants to hop on the accusation bandwagon, your more than welcome! I will ignore all comers because what is worse the accuser ( without foundation) or the Troll? It just might be a draw!

Does anyone have any knowledge if TCM has shown the gem made by Anthony Quinn in 1969, "The Secret of Santa Vittoria"? I saw this film in the movies back then, and remember how close to perfect it was. The story was about a village who tried to hide their wine they made from the German's during World War II, with Quinn portraying the Mayor of the village. I know it is not released on DVD to date, and new VHS copies are hard to find. The last time I scouted E-Bay, used VHS copies were quite high in price.

Harvey and Arsenic
in General Discussions
Posted
I like the idea of how the handle went down when "Harvey" opened up the gate of the sanitarium to leave the doctor and go with Stewart instead.
As far as Grant goes, he was crazy with the antics of his adopted family ( Son of a Sea Cook) and not as attentive to Priscilla Lane as Eddie "Bartlett", (
) James Cagney was in "The Roaring Twenties".
