Eddie Murphy - Coming to America?

> Oh, I had no antipathy towards DiCaprio before this > movie and as he's matured, he even seems to be > interesting. An example is his latest movie, the one > with Nicholson. > Now, where did I leave my new irrational hatred for > Tom Cruise............. Sorry, I think DiCaprio has great potential. The first movie I saw him in was "This Boys Life" and it even impressed DeNiro who said "This kid has got the makings to be big". As far as Crusie goes, I hated him till he teamed up with Newman in "The Color of Money". His subsequent "Rain Man" and "A Few Good Men" showed his growth by picking two mega stars like Hoffman and Nicholson to act with. By the way they said almost the same thing that DeNiro said about DiCaprio. His problem is he is not picking the right scripts. All the movies since then "Vanilla Sky" and "Eyes Wide Shut" are in a word "Crap". If he gets back on track he will surly be a force to reckon with in Hollywood. That's just one voice speaking ( Mine). Bartlett

I nominate 1954's Cinemascope technicolor beauty "Saskatchewan" with Alan Ladd. The mountain ranges and lakes are truly beautiful, and God had to work overtime to create this natural beauty. Eye Boggling!

I'll say Stephen Campbell Moore - "Bright Young Things" (2004) Bartlett

> I started to add something elase ,,, & then realized > it was not worth the effort. Please add something else, its not good to hold back anger even if it is unwarranted. We all get angry when we are young and when we are corrected, so the next stage would be a nasty name-calling nothing to do with the subject tirade. A thing that I suspect you will be doing frequently in the future. The only thing you don't get rid of is a temper by losing it. When I'm wrong I admit it, that goes with maturity! RELAX!! Bartlett -

Yes Lew Ayres portrayed Henry Drummond in the stage play "Inherit the Wind" which opened up on Broadway on April 21, 1955. Bartlett

> Dear, Dear Barlett: > Your list looks just like mine except for the Last > Picture Show. I guess a clinker or two isn`t too > awful, they just seem to run two or three of them > together. SIGH!!!!!! If you look closely, I was repeating the list that lzcutter displayed in her post prior to mine. Obviously your attention span and your detail for information is as equal to your attention span to the various variety of movies that are being Broadcasted by TCM!. SIGH!!!!!!!! Bartlett -
> > I didn't realize that Muni was in "All Quiet on > the > > Western Front"? > > He wasn't. Sorry guys I had a "Senior Moment", I meant "The Story Of Louis Pasture" .( Of course it was Lew Ayers who was in "All's Quiet on the Western Front". Please forgive my senility. I didn't take my medication and gave the wrong information as a result. Sorry! Bartlett

Don't forget he did the theme song for Mel Brooks. in "Blazing Saddles" In 1974 he still had that Booming Vocie...God Love Him! It looks like God finally gave him a mountain he coudn't climb. God rest his soul! He was also in an obscure movie as a song performer in 1979 called "Yotzim Kavva". Bartlett

It looks like I'm one of the few who say Carlton Heston won Ben Hur "Hands Down". Muni was great in "The Story of Louis Pasture", and "I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang" which he also deserved the Academy Award. Nothing can compare with Heston finding his mother and sister in the leper colony and it is a door buster of a scene. He used ever emotion in his portrayal to hate Stephen Boyd, love his protector Jack Hawkins and the look on his face when he handed water to Jesus, is forever prominent in my mind forever. To say that Muni should have won for "The Last Angry Men" is frivilous. I believe the death scene of Spencer Tracy in "The Last Hurrah exceeded the performanc of Muni's in the"The Last Angy Men" . A wonderful movie but in my opinion not Acadeny Award material. Bartlett

>That' Starman isn't very well know and I thought > that I was the only one who had seen it and I am so > happy that the people at TCM like it to. I have seen "Starman" and know that this dribble is not a classic! That is my opinion!

Is Casablanca your favorite Bogart film? If so, why? If not, why?
Bartlett replied to bhryun's topic in General Discussions
I always enjoyed Bogart in "Sahara". It gave a great story with a very good cast and pretty much was believable. I have seen this movie quite a bit and never get tired of it. A close second is what I consider his signature movie "Treasure of Sierra Madre". The fight scene in the bar between Dobbs and Curtin and Barton MacLaine alone is worth the time spent watching this great study of characters and what greed can do to people. You also can't go wrong with "The African Queen" for a more gentle Bogart. Also he was great with Cagney in "The Roaring Twenties". Come to think of it ALL of Bogart movies are my favorite!! That list says it all. I like variety and you have to expect a clinker every now and then. I would rather see a multi-festival like this than see the same five pictures shown over and over again. For my money TCM is a sure shot for providing the best variety of commercial free movies. I like the Oscar month as well..you can't beat it! -

Who Gave the most menacing performance you remember?
Bartlett replied to a topic in General Discussions
Every time I see the scene in "Goodfellas" with Robert DeNiro standing at the bar taking a drag on his cigarette looking at the guy approaching him to demand his share of the heist money, puts a chill down my spine. If that is not a menacing look what is? -
William Holden in "Stalag 17"?

Was it O'Toole in "Club Paradise"?
