Hi Larry. Ann was always such a sweetheart... and she knew how to pick friends. Ann was also very good friends with the ultra-gorgeous Rita Hayworth. They both worked at Columbia for years until Ann moved over to MGM for Easter Parade. I was sad when Ann's cancer took over and she died in Jan. of 2004 at age 80. Speaking of Texas, three of my other faves were born there: Ann Sheridan, Joan Crawford, and Cyd Charisse.

Thank you Miss G. You posted my fave pic of Linda: the b&w one where she's leaning against a satin chair. Her face is extraordinary to look at, what a perfect arrangement of the human form is our Linda Darnell. Miss G., did you know, by the way, that in the early forties, Linda used to have lunches with Betty Grable, Susan Hayward, and Lana Turner all at the same time?? Lana said they would always try to outdress each other and regale each other with their latest, upcoming film projects. Can you imagine that much beauty at one table??

You are so right. How could anyone love a daughter as disgusting, selfish, and evil as Ann Blyth in MP?? As fantastic as Blyth was i would've voted for Eve Arden all the way!! Eve is great in MP. She cuts Zachary Scott, Ann Blyth, and Jack Carson to shreds with her sarcastic barbs during this highly enjoyable film noir. Blyth's performance is really noteworthy as she is a sweetheart in real life. Great job by all in this film. One of the most entertaining classics i've ever seen and can't wait to see again. I love Warner Brothers films from the 1940's.

If you're ever in Columbus, Ohio, i will gladly let you watch both shows in my living room. I have both on old VHS tapes that are in pretty good condition. I will be watching the one with Virginia any day now as talking about it with you guys has reminded me how fun the show is and full of gossip about the old days. You are so right. Virginia had beautiful hair. Did you ever notice in White Heat, her hair looks perfect?? And please, please, there is no need to sell your hair. It keeps the raindrops off of your head! LOL! -

Hi Ava. You are right. Virginia was soooo pretty, she looked great with all her co-stars and made them look better. I also love her honesty to spill the beans on people. Virginia was on the Vicki Lawrence talk show in April, 1993 and VM still looked really good at 72 years old. She said Gregory Peck was the best kisser. Ronald Reagan was the nicest gentleman. She was afraid of Burt Lancaster because he had so many big teeth she thought Burt would break her teeth when they kissed. She thought Danny Kaye was annoying because he was very moody on set - sometimes happy, other times sad. VM said Jack Palance was the weirdest man she ever met because the scene called for him to pet a rabbit. He proceeded to run around the set really fast to get ready for the scene which VM thought very odd. Jack was so overly pumped when he went to pet the rabbit, he petted it too rough and the rabbit went to the bathroom all over Jack as the rabbit was frightened of him. Virginia was the most outgoing of the guests that day which also included Jane Russell, Dorothy Malone, Dorothy Lamour, and Margaret O'Brien. One of the most enjoyable hours of tv i have ever seen. Vicki also did another show like this one in December, 1992 with June Allyson, Ann Miller, Janet Leigh, Gloria DeHaven, and later in the show Mickey Rooney. -

Really, how could anyone not love this woman?? I especially love Virginia in crime and adventure movies and she's not bad in westerns either. The real treat is getting to look at her flawless face and figure. Virginia was so hot in White Heat, Flaxy Martin, Smart Girls Don't Talk, and Congo Crossing. A beautiful lady and a nice one too. -
I have heard this rumor as well but it has never been proven. On A&E's Biography of Carole Lombard, they state that Carole was in a big rush to get back to Clark as she simply missed him terribly. Carole's mother begged her to just take the train so Carole said we'll flip a coin and that will decide it. And the rest is history. Lana did mention in her autobio that there was this ugly rumor going around as to why Carole wanted to get back so fast, that Clark & Lana were having a torrid fling. Lana said in her autobio that there was no truth to the rumor even though she did admire Clark as a person. Clark was usually cheating on Carole with Virginia Grey but other starlets/women as well. He was flawed that way and tried to hide it from Carole so as not to hurt her or humiliate her to all of tinseltown.

Favorite out of each group... hmmmm... 1) Hedy 2) Lana 3) Rita -
Hi Cashette. I love Jeanine Basinger. She has said very nice things about a lot of my favorites, especially Lana Turner. Jeanine is a film historian so it sounds like her book TSM could be a good read. I might have to buy it next time i'm at B&N. You are so lucky to have Because Of You on tape. I've only seen it the one time many years ago and remember it was quite good. I thought pairing Loretta with Jeff Chandler was interesting and different but it worked well. I hope Cafe Metropole lives up to your anticipation of it. Let me know if it has a really good plot and you would recommend it.

I also think George Raft is pretty great and definitely prefer him to bogart. Did you see him in Nocturne and did you like it? He was so good in so many movies.
-
Don't forget Rita Hayworth In Affair In Trinidad and she also has a solo in Cover Girl and The Loves Of Carmen. And Cyd Charisse solo in Party Girl.
-
I thought she looked the most beautiful in Elephant Walk, but she looked great in almost all her films to be sure. And a nice lady to boot.

It will be July soon and you can purchase the Ty Power collection and enjoy it any time you want. How cool is that? I've never seen Cafe Metropole. I knew Loretta was in it but i didn't realize Tyrone was in it as well. It must be a romance as TP & LY are really awesome-looking together. It seems like they are really in love in their movies. I am surprised there isn't a LY collection yet as she did a few epics in the 30's and had some box office hits in the mid and late 40's. Even Fox MC is starting to push LY more often. They showed Kentucky and Ladies In Love for the first time in three and a half years. Cashette, if you ever get the chance, i highly recommend Because Of You from 1952. It has a good plot and you might need a kleenex.

I'm with you Triple HHH, Alan & Veronica all the way in any of their films. I bought Black Angel but haven't had time to watch it yet. Of the four you listed, my fave so far would be This Gun For Hire.

Hedger, I think you are great and love to read your posts as I am off the deep end for Hedy myself. It's nice to read other posters who like the same people i do. It's not your fault you have great taste in actresses!! LOL. I think you even stepped in to defend Hedy when a newbie was bashing her. Bravo, Hedger. Encore. Keep up the good posting and have a great week. Calling someone a troll is mild compared to the ranting, raving, and curse words i have seen on these boards.

Hedy's gonna be SOTM in May as well at my house. With Hedy, thirty days are not enough and i was outta town for twelve days in april so i have to get my revenge. Ha haaaaaaaa.

I'll co-sign this especially if they can show her noirs or south sea films that i've never seen. DL is exotic and a looker. It would be nice to see her w/o Hope & Crosby for a change.

Just finished watching Ladies In Love from 1936 on the Fox MC. Loretta was in love with Tyrone Power's character. They looked really great together and very young, no pun intended. Loretta was competing with Janet Gaynor, Constance Bennett, and Simone Simon to see which gal came across as the cutest/best-looking. Loretta had that sparkle in her eyes as always.

I liked it. The plot was murky and kept me interested in trying to figure out who was who. The film was moody and mysterious and i liked the mexican scenery. I enjoyed Glenn Ford and Diana Lynn, but frankly, i would watch anything with the luscious Patricia Medina who is totally smokin' hot gorgeous.

Here's my top three actress beauties: 1. Hedy Lamarr - duh, of course. 2. Linda Darnell - a close, close second, really like one and a half!! 3. Lana Turner - was still gorgeous in her sixties, because she cared. Thank you to the poster who cited Constance Bennett -- love her!! Thanks to the poster who cited Alexis, Ella, and Rita as their first three honorable mentions -- a big yaaayyy from me. And chinaseas, love that you cited Kay and Ann S. -- i agree they are awesome! My honorable mentions: Susan H., Rita H., Jane R., Bette, Ida, Ann S., Merle, Joan C., Alexis... -
1,000 % NO. When he accepted his oscar a few years ago, his speech was so arrogant i wanted to puke. Now that he's a big deal (make me barf) there seems to be no end to his endless lectures to us peons about how he is so much more in touch with the human spirit and struggle than we or anyone else is. GC is a typical overpaid hwood **** who has lost touch with the everyday folks who struggle in the real world. His overly-superior attitude and immense sense of entitlement make him persona non grata with me and that goes for most of the self-indulgent cretins in hwood today.
