  1. Thank you. Here's how off the deep end i am for Paulette. I bought the dvd of Sins Of Jezebel from 1952 and watched it last fall. I enjoyed it a lot even though her film career was winding down at this time. PG in technicolor as a royal wife with that sexy voice of hers. And she was cheating on her old husband with none other than George Nader. I guess that would make Paulette one of the first cougars.

  2. I love Paulette; such a beauty and could listen to that voice all day. Why was Paulette not an even bigger star?? PG was great in The Women and Reap The Wild Wind. I can see a resemblance to M. Lindsay, but for me, Paulette is so special and one of a kind because of that magnificent voice and the wide range of film genres she starred in. I don't think i can ever get enough of PG. She's like lay's potato chips.

  3. You are so right Miss G. Evelyn never looked better than in Johnny O'Clock with her long blonde hair. I loved her character's soft and loyal demeanor toward Dick Powell. I can still picture Evelyn and Ellen Drew in this movie, even though it's been 3 or 4 years since i've seen it. Can't wait to see it again so i can drink in EK/ED's astounding beauty. Miss G., i think eventually tcm will show Evelyn's noir films here and there, probably morning or early afternoon or maybe Bob's picks.

  4. Not only was Bette amazing, so were her big, beautiful, expressive eyes. Bette could really convey her mood just by using her great eyes, not even having to speak. No other classic actress had a song written about them that stayed #1 on the Billboard Charts for nine weeks straight (in 1981). "She's got Bette Davis Eyes..."

  5. I am sad that this sweet and beautiful woman has passed. I think she is very effective in film noir. Not to be a copycat Miss G, but i loved her smoky blondness in my favorite J movie, Johnny O'Clock. But i have to confess, i also LOVE JO'C because of the super-beautiful Ellen Drew. At least Evelyn Keyes was blessed with a long, productive, and exciting life. Hopefully some of us tcm posters may be as fortunate as Evelyn. It would be great if tcm could honor EK with a night of movies, hopefully noirs. Thanks for the great pic of EK, Miss G. She's so easy on the eye.

  6. Hi CM. I guess the homely moguls power went to their heads so much so that they thought that any woman would be drawn to them. Harry Cohn was dying to sleep with Hayworth from day one. Rita was cold for Cohn from day one. Rita was like: i can work for you... but we will never ever be lovers. The thought of Cohn touching her physically repulsed Rita, and good for her. I'm proud of Rita and Linda for putting their foots down and refusing to be used by Cohn and Zanuck. And hats off to Hedy who could have gone on to a longer career if she let one of the top studio brass use her as a mistress. She didn't and her movie career ended but Hedy kept her dignity and self-respect which to any good woman is priceless. Wow. Hollywood sure was tough on pretty girls. It's a wonder more of them didn't end up like poor, beloved Marilyn. It's very sad that powerful, ugly men treat young women this way.

  8. Drednm, you took the words right out of my mouth. Jack Warner tried to get Kay to walk out on her lucrative contract by giving her shoddy scripts. But Kay elevated the dreck to a higher level because she is a star and a true professional. I'm glad Kay soaked WB for every last penny. Good for her and that gives us fans many more films to enjoy this special woman. Kay is so friggin' gorgeous i half expect to see beams of light around her head. Wait until you guys see her in Mandalay, if TCM shows it?? I'm pleased tcm is going to show her later Monogram films which i never thought i would evah see. Kay is terrific in september or any month really.

  9. Good point. Zanuck's huge ego would have been wounded if he had hit on Linda and she was like: "Please get away from me. You're too short and there's a big gap between your teeth." Come to think of it, Darryl clashed with most of his female stars: Alice Faye, Loretta, Lynn Bari, Carole Landis, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield... Zanuck seemed like one of those old dinosaurs who looked down on women and did not like being challenged by a bright and beautiful gal who wasn't afraid to stick up for herself. I've read that he was notorious for cheating on his wife with starlets, etc. I guess most of the moguls were like that. It's like putting a fox in charge of the henhouse.

  10. Personally, i LOVE Affair In Trinidad. It's dark and moody and Rita is hott as usual and gets to show off her incredible dancing skills twice. Of course Gilda is in a class by itself, but i would rate AIT right behind Gilda in terms of my two most favorite Rita films. Rita really is a gem of an entertainer, acting or dancing or being every man's desire. I am absolutely positive, hawkeye, that you will enjoy Affair In Trinidad: the plot draws you in... and Rita looks like ten million bucks of hotness. I'm off to get a cold drink!! ha ha.

  11. Hi Judy. Things got so bad for Gene in 1958 she stepped out onto a ledge of her NYC apartment and was going to jump from like the 14th floor in her white nightgown. Gene hesitated (thank god) and said to herself: "i'm not going to die looking like this (disheveled)". After twenty minutes she stepped back inside and went to a special needs sanitarium. Gene's vanity saved her!!! So vanity can be a good thing now and then. 33 years later Gene died from emphysema. Her daughter said Gene smoked way too much. Gene was a great and beautiful person though who had problems just like anyone does. And imo she had some of the best female roles of the 1940's: Sundown, Laura, Leave Her To Heaven, Dragonwyck, Razor's Edge...

  12. I know. I was mad when i heard Farley turned down the lead in The Egyptian. I really enjoyed him in They Live By Night, Side Street, Our Very Own, I Want You, and Girl In The Red Velvet Swing. I can easily picture him being tormented by Bella Darvi. It would have been cool for him to try a biblical picture. My only complaint about this film is right before Michael Wilding buys the farm, he goes into this interminable speech about life or whatever. I remember saying to myself, " would you just shut up and die already... omg, please shut up and stop preaching at me."
