  1. JackF - so glad you got to see *Gilda* in its entirety. Going back to a recent conversation somewhere here, I also heard that Glenn Ford and Rita were sweet on each other. These spectacular photos bring to mind Rita's words - 'Every man I have known has fallen in love with Gilda and wakened with me'. Tough act to follow.
  2. Off the top of my head, after seeing him in two movies in the last week, I would suggest Russ Tamblyn. Not a real (or reel) oldtimer, but I bet he'd have a lot of stories to share.
  3. > {quote:title=kingrat wrote:}{quote} > Cinemafan, if they used my interview, I'm talking mostly about Frank Capra's "Dirigible" and a little about blogging on the TCM website. kingrat, I missed it, but thank you so much for sharing that wonderful experience with us. It's great to "meet" someone from the boards who is a real fan and who uses words so well. So nice to meet you this way, and thanks again. I am looking forward to reading more from you. cinemafan
  4. How is it that day after day people/businesses are allowed to register an account and post the same spam over and over? Today, it happened again. The same post that has been showing up for weeks - 21 times today! 21 separate posts of the same garbage. Something is wrong with the system if this spam cannot be removed in a timely manner. Surely, someone has reported this since this morning. It's all over the board. Posted by one poster. Please advise us as to how we members can help. Does every single post have to be reported? By the abuse button or private message. Surely, the poster's posts can be reviewed, as I just did, and see that there are many many instances of spam. BY THE SAME POSTER. PLEASE HELP.
  5. Thanks, MissG. moving on to automobiles *Dinah Shore* *Carole Lombard* *Ginger Rogers* *George Brent and Genevieve Tobin* *and if you need a battery*
  6. MissG - funny that she is called *Mrs. John Wayne*. Wonder which one that was? I know she had a name.
  7. kingrat - could you give a brief description of your appearance? I might have seen it - the one I'm thinking of was a TCM fan telling of an experience watching a film with a parent as a child. If you don't mind. Sounds like we were well represented there. Thanks, cinemafan
  8. Miss G - thanks for the Burt! I love it - Burt looks.. Burt sniffs.. Burt tastes.. What a youngster!
  9. > {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > Oh darn it TCM girls!!!! I meant to post this way earlier. On the OVATION channel...an original production called ANATOMY OF A CLOSET was on from 8:00-9:00pm this Sunday nite. For you real fashionistas...this probably was a fluff piece. But as a gal who lives in jeans...I found it very interesting. Yeah...you know all this stuff already. They talked of the top ten iconic fashion styles. Here is the countdown and briefly what "they" say about them: > Maven - re: that top 10 list - I'll take the 4 or 5 most comfortable. The others I can do without. Great list, though. Something for everyone.
  10. I'm with mr6666 and FredCDobbs - so good to hear from real fans on what's going on. Real fans that I feel I know. Thanks, and hope we hear more when you're rested upl
  11. > {quote:title=fredbaetz wrote:}{quote} > That is one " Drop Dead Gorgeous" photo of Dorothy. Be still my heart.. fredb.- I thought the same thing when I happened upon that photo! And I was glad that there was a place here to share it.
  12. And you thought no one read anything here. There is treasure here, I tell you!
  13. No, mave. It was you in the Robert Taylor thread on April 6. Your words were right on the mark - so much that when I saw this photo, I thought of your words. Thanks for them. Maven sez - "But forgive me...I confess, I took my eye off the ball. This really is Vivien Leigh?s picture. She had my total attention. It?s all in Leigh?s eyes, isn?t it? Bright with anticipation, burning dark with fear and recognition. Sweetly smiling at 'customers' in Waterloo Station...and then seeing Roy walk through the gate like Lazarus. All in her eyes. Her voice flat and dead as she talks to the last person who sees her alive on Waterloo Bridge."
  14. I am spending a Sunday afternoon getting caught up around here. Forgive me for backing up a bit, but I have to go back to Walter Brennan. I just caught him the other night in *Stand By For Action* on Robert Taylor night. He played an old timer sailor who wanted to get hired on for the reactivation of a ship. It was seeing Walter playing without his usual "voice" - he played just a regular guy. He wound up dying his hair! to appear younger. Funny stuff. What a treasure he was. Here he is celebrating his 73rd birthday on the set of tv's*The Guns of Will Sonnett* one of my favorite roles of his, the preacher in *Sgt. York* rehearsing with Debbie Reynolds for her variety show. in character
  15. Maven - here is something you described in another thread. I thought of you when I saw it.
  16. it's posted on April 24, Day 3, right after a photo of Joan Crawford. I got a chuckle out of it.
  17. Watching *The Best Years of Our Lives* and seeing Dana Andrews working the cosmetics counter brings to mind these.
  18. JackF - this is from Day 3 of the *Morlocks* Festival blog. It is from the Peter Bogdanovich/Leonard Maltin interview. Credit to *Lorraine Lobianco* for posting it there. It adds to what I've already heard. *"Among the topics discussed was the making of Bogdanovich?s The Last Picture Show (1971), which the director recalled was a difficult picture to cast. Originally, he had wanted Jimmy Stewart, but realized that having Stewart in a film with relative unknowns wouldn?t work. Looking through the Actor?s Directory, he saw a photograph of Ben Johnson, who he had met during the filming of John Ford?s Cheyenne Autumn in 1963. He sent the script to Johnson, who turned it down, saying ?Too many words, Pete. Some of ?em are dirty. I want my mom to see this picture.? In desperation, Bogdanovich called John Ford, who said, disgustedly, ?Oh, Jesus! He always says that!? Ford then phoned Johnson and chided him, saying ?Jesus Christ, Ben! Peter?s got a great part. You want to play Duke?s sidekick your whole life?? Ben Johnson reluctantly accepted the role, ?I dunno, Pete?so many words.? Bogdanovich countered by telling Johnson that he?d win an Academy Award if he did the role and Johnson slammed the script together, angrily, ?Alright, I?ll do the goddamned thing!? Bogdanovich was right: Ben Johnson later won the Oscar? for Best Supporting Actor".* here's the link to the original article - http://moviemorlocks.com/
  19. > {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > My claim to fame among my friends? About twenty years ago, I attended an event in Harlem where I got to dance a two-step with Fayard Nicholas. He was already a very old man. > > Ha, I struggled to keep up with him. Maven - you've been holding out on us. That is such a great memory to add to your guest programmer experience with mongo and the others. They will last your lifetime. As with those attending the Festival and sharing their fun, I am once again living vicariously through you and other TCM fans.
  20. fredb - and I figured out (duh) that our favorite stars were most likely given all the free cartons they wanted. Hindsight....
  21. > {quote:title=finance wrote:}{quote} > Let me get "nostalgic" about cigarette brands that no longer exist-----Old Gold, Oasis, Kent, Viceroy, King Sano, Tareyton,, L & M, etc., and I never even smoked. Now that it has been established that smoking is not good for us - some of the above brands did not use stars or celebrities to advertise. These did -
  22. Our very own *Movie Morlocks* also has photos - and a day to day blog, in a larger format. http://moviemorlocks.com/ Looks and sounds like everyone is having a blast!
