  1. All I know is that my dad quit smoking in the sixties because he realized how harmful they were. He smoked Pall Malls, which I think were pretty strong. I've heard cigarettes referred to as "coffin nails" in older movies. Everyone did these ads - doctors, sports figures.
  2. fredb - didn't you find out that Henry's middle initial is E? That might help our detective work.
  3. JackF - I think further info might be found in a Wellman bio. Maybe between the two of us, we will find out more. I've looked on many sites. This is the best photo I could come up with.
  4. *A few more photos - the last one is a little muddy, but it sure is a nice one.* Women[/i]Image+1.jpg]
  5. arturo - looks like Linda made a lot of ads.
  6. The spoiler did not bother me - I've already seen the film at least a few times. I'm going to have to watch the ending more closely though, this time. I think I may have missed something.
  7. I can't believe that it's starting tomorrow! already? - and looking forward to your experiences.
  8. I'm glad that you got to see this. Here are a few photos for now. *Buck Wyatt*
  9. I realize this is over a year old, but please forgive me. Anyone watching *Westward the Women* today will notice Henry Nakamura in it. What happened to him?
  10. Tricia - I may be the only one who watched that trailer every time it came on (and liked it!) Sansfin - I'll be there this evening. Recent discussion here on this movie has given me great insight on the ending. I think I may have had it wrong all this time.
  11. *Time to unpack those sewing machines!* *Priscilla Lane* *Alice Adams style* *Maureen O'Hara* *Claire Trevor* *Betty Grable*
  12. Ve-ge-ta-bles! I grew up on canned vegetable. Oh well....sad but truel How about these? Again, compare the sizes and measurements to today's. *Olivia DeHavilland* *Jane Wyman*
  13. It's *our* lucky day, and no, it hasn't been posted before. Thanks.
  14. How about adding products like this to our thread?
  15. mongo, if I may - this photo of Liza is the spittin' image of your photo of her dad.
  16. Good finds today, one and all! I love the Loretta, George, Greer and I want some Lux soap.
  17. *I think FrankG would appreciate this one. Catherine Deneuve*

I hope you'll post your thoughts after. I may watch it again. Ok, I'm back with my observations on the movie, which I enjoyed very much. -Farley Granger was very young and handsome and Robert Walker was older and handsome. -At the beginning, the shoes fooled me. I thought that the flashy pair belonged to Guy and the plain pair to Bruno. -I finally (first time) spotted Hitchcock in this movie. -Miriam's "coke bottle" glasses were amazing. -The horrible painting by Bruno's mom. It reminded me of *The Picture of Dorian Gray.* -Psychopathic Bruno in his garish bathrobe, still living with and indulged by his parents. -Ruth Roman played such a strong character in this movie - I knew she would be helpful to Farley. -The tennis scenes - were they really at Forest Hills? The courts looked like they were grass. I loved the formal look of the jackets with shorts and tennis shoes. -The old-timer crawling under the merry-go-round - that I believed. There's always someone like that around. I found out his name is Harry Hines. Here is how his characters are listed on imdb - motel owner, counterman, chess player, miner, news vendor, roustabout, old man in pool hall. -When the merry-go-round was going so fast, I remembered a time when I was a kid. I was hanging onto to one of these which was going fast, and I flew off and landed on my back. It knocked the wind out of me. I kept wondering why Farley didn't jump off. -I did have to suspend belief for the parts where Farley didn't call Bruno's bluff. Bruno was a true nut.
  19. *Maven - can you believe how much this box has _not_ changed?*
  20. *They still sell this stuff! must be good...*
  21. finance - is this what you mean? Apparently Julie sang this in tv commercials. Very stylish. (Warning - the last 5 seconds has someone saying a word that is objectionable.)
