  1. lz - I am familiar with Vermont Country Store. Lots of old fashioned stuff. I know that you can get Frownies and Wrinklies there - those little pieces of "tape" that Norma Desmond had on her face in *Sunset Blvd.* You know, when she was preparing for her comeback. JackF - great clip. I'm sold - 4 out of 5? - I need me some Lustre Creme right now! Ann Sheridan's voice is striking in that ad.
  2. primos - I am glad that you are enjoying this thread. It combines my love of history and the movie world. We can't change history, and if we could go back and do things over......well, that's another world. A word to the wise for those who do social networking. Watch out what you put out there in print and photos. Especially these days - they are saved somewhere and saved forever. This is from my original post, realizing that ads for these products are limited nowadays - *Be aware that many are for cigarettes and alcoholic drinks, and others for cosmetics and you name it. But all are interesting and fun to see.* cinemafan
  3. That one with Robert Taylor/smokes is terribly bittersweet. These are like pieces of history. *Lana with darker hair -*
  4. chilly - I'm getting excited! and I'm not even going! I hope you all get to meet up. I know you will all have a great time. PS - you could all arrange to wear a white gardenia or something to that effect.
  5. Miss G - that was a bonus - it also had Dolores Del Rio, Brenda Joyce, Merle Oberon and Myrna Loy. Color controlled powder! I love it. Here's one that gets right to the point -
  6. Miss G - I had that photo for a while and finally found a home for it. Now where can I get some of that cologne? *Marion Davies* *Pier Angeli*
  7. After having the blessed time to go on a movie watching spree at TCM this week, and researching photos, it dawned on me how many print advertisements there are featuring stars of yesteryear. Here's a place we can feature them. Be aware that many are for cigarettes and alcoholic drinks, and others for cosmetics and you name it. But all are interesting and fun to see. I'll start with this one.
  8. Helen Craig - I thought she looked familiar - wasn't she the strict nurse who was knocked down a peg or two by the end of *The Snake Pit?* The singer was credited as Marie Bryant. The song she sang - "Your Red Wagon" had very unusual lyrics.
  9. Miss G - Can you believe that I've never seen *Strangers on a Train?* I hope to be home in time to see it this evening.
  10. I thought for a while there that you had run off with one of the laundry room codgers!
  11. Good research, Fred. Looking at the original photo - that makes *8* gentlemen that look like they'd love to help Kim with her coat.
  12. Miss G - love the photos. This one is fascinating - looks like Kim is taking off her coat, sitting down to eat. All I can see are 7 gentlemen who would probably love to jump up and help her. > {quote:title=MissGoddess wrote:}{quote} > Here's a classic "icy blonde", Kim Novak, an actress that has > really been shooting up in my estimation. >
  13. *"Boy, that bronxgirl is something else. Holding down a job, watching movies, hanging with Mom, avoiding the laundromat....and still time to post 12,000 wonderful times with her friends! Some posts are even about me - what a girl!"*
  14. mongo - looks like a team building event at a Tarzan convention.
  15. If you are coming from out of California, try Kyle's advice - *"Oh, and everyone should definitely walk down Highland to Sunset, hang a right past Hollywood High and go to "In 'N Out" for a burger and a real ice cream milk shake.* *Kyle In Hollywood"* This hamburger chain started in California, and it looks like they have a few locations in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. The hamburgers are the freshest and best deal in town, and you will be back for more. As their jingle goes - In 'N Out, In 'N Out, That's what a hamburger is all about.
  16. Fred, that exit door situation sounds dangerous. Somehow, I missed this whole disco scene. This movie was painful to watch, til the music started. But, that's probably how it was in real life. . Sorry to blow your cover, but I found this old photo of you - out on the town.
  17. How about *Age of Consent* with Helen Mirren and James Mason? That's a good one that's been on TCM fairly recently.
  18. Poinciana - here are my favorites - *Breaker Morant*, 1980 *Gallipoli*, 1981 *The Year My Voice Broke*, 1987 *Shine*, 1996
  19. Hopefully, when that part of the schedule is up, someone will let us know via this thread. In the meantime, this 1953 short that is showing on that day looks interesting - looks like it was ahead of its' time. *5:45 AM Short Film: Don't Get Angry (1953)* *A social guidance film on anger management. C-0 mins*
  20. *Tyrone Power Jr. at a charity event in 2009 - he was a celebrity bartender at a Food Bank food drive - sounds fun! In this photo, he's already 6 or 7 years older than his dad when he died.*
  21. MissG - Tyrone Power was gone by the time I discovered him in movies. I thought he was the most handsome man I had ever seen! And I could watch him for two hours just by finding one of his movies playing on TV. I think the first movie I saw him in was *Blood and Sand*. His son was born after his death (just like Clark Gable's son). Very sad. This is how I remember him.
  22. fredb - I am always amazed at some of the young ages at which some of my favorites died. Of course, the closer I get to those ages, the more it hits home. Here's an interesting picture I found of Tyrone at a costume test for *The Black Swan* (which will be shown again on May 2). His hair's uncustomarily mussed, maybe from the scarf he wore, or maybe they were just testing the look.
  23. mongo, a guess off the top of my head - Maria Cooper?
