  1. lz, That was lovely. You may or may not be pleased to know that when I googled "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" on images, your TCM fan-host photo shows up on page 9 as a connection to Movie Morlocks! I think it's great!
  2. *?Appears to be another case of poor planning. Rhoda's mother looks to be out of touch with reality in a big way.? - cinemafan.* *No, I don?t think so. I don't think she's out of touch. I think she is struggling with the knowledge that her daughter is a sociopathic, psychopath.* - CineMaven I went back and edited my post to make it clear that I did not mean to say that Rhoda was a result of poor planning, although she may have been! I was referring to R.O.'s intro being cut off =poor planning on the part of TCM. Whew! CM- Although Rhoda's mom is surely struggling with that knowledge, she must have ignored many, many red flags in Rhoda's behavior in the past. In my line of work, I see parents everyday in denial that their children (especially those on the brink of adolescence) could possibly be at fault or responsible for any wrongdoing or "poor choices" as they are referred to. I wonder where they have been in the child's life up to then, and wonder about the child's future. Then again, it looked like Christine's life revolved heavily around her husband. I think that Rhoda was aware of Miss Fern seeing through her. Miss Fern probably saw her interact with others all day, and knew that Rhoda was not a very nice little girl. I liked the ending, where they introduced the actors. I guess that was meant to bring the audience back to reality, but it showcased the players.
  3. My two cents - and the *few people who still regularly post here will understand.* WebAdmin seems to me a guard dog that attacks when sicced on certain situations. It would be impossible to monitor every thread. *Wonder who was offended in this case?* They seem to be in way over their heads. What ever happened to the *report abuse* button? That's all, thanks.
  4. > {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > A logical explanation Fred. I still say Rhoda is the culprit behind it. > > Message was edited by CineMaven becuz I wouldn't put it pass the Mod Squad either. Appears to be another case of poor planning. (the intro cut-off, not Rhoda, although she may have been) Rhoda's mother looks to be out of touch with reality in a big way. Message was edited by: cinemafan to clarify my words
  5. > {quote:title=MissGoddess wrote:}{quote} > I always thought it was so interesting the way Ben's character squats on the ground just at that particular moment. I love all the unique body language you find in Ford movies that you just don't see anywhere else. Miss G, I found this photo - I don't know if it's our Ben or not, but it's from a Ford film and he's got a nice squat. Maybe you or JackF. recognise it. Tomorrow I'm goin' downtown! Off to our biggest library to see what I can find.
  6. JackF, I have yet to see *Wagon Master* - never fear, the dialogue doesn't spoil anything for me. Hopefully, I will be able to see it before long. While researching Ben, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how many contemporary Western artists painted portraits of him, or did sculptures of Ben astride a horse. He is highly regarded as a cowboy and rodeo champion and all around regular guy. Here is a link to a page which describes a trophy designed to honor him. I haven't found a picture of it yet. 7. All the better, Kyle - this way we get to see two fab posters!
  8. That is another "issue" that is being investigated by TCMWebAdmin. See this thread from General Issues http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=140712&tstart=0 I think we are supposed to be Patient. They must be very busy with other things.
  9. Giving credit where credit is due, thanks to Admin for removing that spam so quickly. Now we need to get the boards running smoothly, there are still many sporadic problems with logging on and posting. We wouldn't want any more posters to get discouraged and leave.
  10. from *Wagon Master* Ben and Harry Carey, Jr.
  11. Looks like every thread in favorites has been plastered with advertising. Very disrupting.
  12. complete with that old school handwriting
  13. > {quote:title=HollywoodGolightly wrote:}{quote} > cinemafan, > Will you be putting up your photos at the CFU's Ben Johnson page, as well? Just curious... if you aren't going to, you wouldn't mind if somebody else did, right? With respect, I'd prefer that anything I have posted stay here. Thanks for asking.
  14. > {quote:title=JackFavell wrote:}{quote} > OOH! Cinemafan! That is a _great_ photo! Where did you get it? > > Ben looks so relaxed and happy... I wonder if that's HIS ranch in Pawhuska? So many questions.... > > That horse looks pretty contented with Ben standing next to him. I know I would be. I've been doing a bit of research, and I've got a couple of more photos I'm working on putting up. I think that is his ranch.
  15. I will watch this everytime, not just for the great actors, but for the gorgeous depictions of classic central and northern California scenery. Anyone who has read John Steinbeck knows how his descriptions of that area are vivid and so real that you can see it, especially if you have ever been to Monterey, Salinas, King City or Big Sur. The ocean, wildflowers, fields, mountains, and colors all come alive in this movie. You can almost feel and smell the air. I grew up reading John Steinbeck and two summers ago went on a pilgrimage to his birth place in Salinas and the National Steinbeck Center there. A dream come true. Many hands-on recreations of his books and the films made of them. *The Red Pony* (which I got to sit on) from *The Long Valley* , *Of Mice and Men*, *Tortilla Flat*. They even had his truck and camper from *Travels with* *Charley*. Anyhow, the scenery is wonderful, and makes me want to visit again. I'm glad summer's here.
  16. What can I say? It's fun to share! Ben Johnson, Pawhuska, OK, 1959 Message was edited by: cinemafan
  17. > {quote:title=JackFavell wrote:}{quote} > Meanwhile, back at the ranch... here are some pics of Ben looking as happy as you will ever see him, rescuing a runaway stagecoach in SWAYR. > > It's a little lesson in stunt riding, as well as a lesson in how to make a really gangbuster chase scene: JackF - I had to wait til now to say that I *LOVED THOSE SCREENCAPS!* Ben looks like he was born to ride - smiling all the way! Nice - keep 'em coming, please.
  18. CineMaven, Now you *have* to stick around for another few months - through all the *other kinds of* *board challenges!* Congratulations! Thanks, Chip for taking this on. Those prizes sound yummy.
  19. > {quote:title=cmvgor wrote:}{quote} > 2nd try. Still usually 3 or more tries before getting a message accepted. Now, most of my > "watch this thread" Emails are not getting through. Maybe 20%.. TCMAdmin, any end in sight? > > Message was edited by: cmvgor I thought it was just me. *Incomplete screens* are what I'm also getting. Glad to know (not a good thing) that others are still struggling. 3rd try here.
  20. "All the way down the line!" I've always wondered how many times Walter says "Baby" in this movie.
  21. Quit while you're ahead, Walter!!!
  22. Miss G - I don't know who is more beautiful in that first photo - Burt or Ava! p.s. I also miss your on-site larger photos, but whatever you need to do...
  23. Those are nice! Just when I thought we had all the Ben photos we could find. Where did you find the ones that look like clippings? Message was edited by: cinemafan
  24. ro and JackF. - I think the color had something to do with modern look. Also, in some of the 50's westerns, the women are wearing undergarments and clothing styles that are from the 50's. In some movies, they are wearing "bullet" or "cone" bras and dresses with super tight bodices. The women in Budd Boetticher's movies were always like that. It always looks way out of place. Women did not dress like that in that era.
