Dice, Steele and Missed-a-Shot should have gotten billing in their movies. As for Fury, Rex and Flicka, they may not have gotten billing, but their names are well known. Interesting article - I did not recognize the locale of Edendale in California, so I had to check it out. Here's an article if anyone is interested. So much to learn when I visit here! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edendale,_Los_Angeles,_California

Try *Blood and Sand* 1941, with beautiful Linda Darnell and Rita Hayworth, and beautiful Tyrone and Anthony Quinn. I haven't seen it in a very long time, but there's lots besides Tyrone Power to look at. It is a Fox film, though. If I read you incorrectly re: Tyrone Power, watch it anyway someday.

Who knows? I'd like my online friends to know the reason for my absence. I'll be back when I can! > > Red River Red River, are you still using the library computer? I ask because if I try to post at work (don't tell the boss!), the same thing happens. It's ok at home, once I finally get logged in. I posted my tip on logging in successfully in the General Issues thread regarding trouble logging in. We miss you here, so hurry back!

As Mr. Chips, he started out without a moustache, and I got used to him this way. Here's one from 1940, in the play *The Devil's Disciple* with Roger Livesey. Of course, I like him with a moustache too! Message was edited by: cinemafan

> Dobe said that after Ben had angrily left the table, Pappy had asked that someone please bring him back, he was only kidding. Ford realized he had gone too far. Dobe went back to see Ben after dinner and Ben was upset. He said, "I suppose I'm off the picture now." However, Ford continued the next day as if nothing had happened. Everything went smoothly on the shoot after that, with Ford taking up right where he had left off with Ben. Sounds like Ford was one of those people who never apologize, never make amends, just act like nothing ever happened. Destructive pride. No offense to Ford, but it must have driven those around him crazy.

I have to see *Wake of the Red Witch*, though, after watching that clip.

JackF - Oh, those are nice! I love that classic front-hat-brim folded back look. I see he's eating out of a "tin can". Ben, from what I understand, was a real working person, just doing a job (wrangling), when he started in films. So, he stayed a down to earth, regular person all his life - he already knew who he was and what his standards were to be in his life. JackF - did he have a falling out with John Ford along the way?

> Does anybody know what "****" means? I'm wondering if it might have had to do with the German word "furchtbar," which means awful or terrible. PK - it's not German. Just type it into Google and you will see what it means. It must have been a very useful word in those circumstances. -
There's not enough photos out there of Ben.

The Suggest a Movie Board

Because it's purely a Flash application, the only way to find the offending posts is to scroll through countless pages until you find it. However, I did send a small...ahem...sample of our friend's writings. > > *...resources to monitor or stop this?* > > Not without re-designing the entire page, I imagine, including a requirement to register as you do here. Then I guess this is another thing we are expected to learn to live with. Yech! Talk about standards being lowered! Are you saying that readers are expected to monitor and send in links at every offense? Wonder why they don't require people to register? -

There's still nasty, obscene writings over there. How can you let that stuff stay up there? The link has been provided to you, but apparently this needs to be monitored, because it is still there. Do you not have the will and or resources to monitor or stop this? -
Thanks for posting that video of one of my favorites. I love that photo of him (2:00) leaning back in that high backed chair.

That's 3 AM in New York, so the winner will be announced when I get up Sunday morning. Chipster: *Thanks for extending the voting deadline*. This has been an incredibly busy week for lots of us - end of school year, company coming, glitches galore, etc. I promise I'll vote by the end of this week. Thanks to all for all your very *hard work*.

Morning all, this place is like a haunted ghost town nowadays. I'm seeing a place destroyed slowly - a little bit more every day. As an avid reader, I miss reading your writings. The first time I ever saw Hope Emerson, although I didn't know her name for a long time, was in *Adams Rib*. She was the big lady who (literally) lifted up Spencer Tracy in the courtroom scene.

Great screencaps, JackFavell! They capture those scenes perfectly. I am enjoying them mightily. I have to report a Ben sighting. Last Sunday, I was in a Bonanza mood, and I caught a bunch of them on TVLand. There was an episode called "The Gamble" and Ben played a not so good guy. Little Joe was the featured Cartwright, and he got himself signed on as sheriff in a corrupt town. Always good to see Ben Johnson

Brings to mind the old saying - *No good deed goes unpunished.* -
Maybe I noticed because I am a long time fan. And maybe because he didn't take his shirt off in this one (as far as I remember). He was always so fit.

Miss G - I stayed up way too late watching this the other night. This time I paid more attention. I was really shocked when R.O. said before the movie that William Holden had made *Bridge on the* *River Kwai* only two years before! The difference in appearance was striking. To put it bluntly, he looked as if he had had a very rough two years. I guess the drinking took its toll. What I'm starting to notice now are the bugle calls. Charge, retreat, etc. That and the cavalry calls (when the leader is giving orders to the line of soldiers). That's fun stuff.
