These Boards are not being Phased Out in the near future. And if you are worried about what might happen two years from now, you've got too much time on your hands. Sheesh. > > Kyle In Hollywood Kyle, On the contrary, I have *too little* time on my hands. I only have so much time to spend online anywhere. Being online is a part of my life, not my whole life. Trying so hard to log on and post, and having others stop posting for the sames reasons is what has me worried. And the lack of communication from anyone official who can explain is frustrating. As an example, I have been trying off and on to post this for 6 hours.

TCM Fans Online Social Network (tcmfans.ning.com)

The reason I asked is that there is a logo in use there that looks like it is part of TCM - the man with a cap on carrying a roll of film. I could be wrong, though. Thanks. -
TCM Fans Online Social Network (tcmfans.ning.com)

Unlike other independent gathering sites created by TCM viewers, this one does not revolve around a discussion board; rather, you get to make a profile page where you can post your favourite photos, videos, etc. You can communicate with other TCM fans via PMs or writing on their walls. > > If you feel adventurous and want to give it a try, go to: > http://tcmfans.ning.com > > Happy New Year!! B-) Is this site still ongoing? Is it TCM sanctioned/connected to TCM in any way? It sounds amazingly like CFU! It also looks top-secret - there's no way to check it out unless you sign up! -

Holly, you sound as if you know something we don't - who are "they"? With the limited time I have to spend online, this Board is just right for me. the entire text of what markbeckuaf said - *Fastest way to kill a message board is to make it so that it doesn't work over a protracted period of time, do nothing or say nothing about it, and just leave everyone to wonder...and eventually leave. Hmmmm. The conspiracy theorist in me is wanting to emerge, but I'm hoping that it's not right.* *Where else are folks going?* A perfect description of what is happening here. Message was edited by: cinemafan - to correct a misspelling. My back is killing me and I was typing on the floor.

with Alec Guinness from *The Quiller Memorandum*. This is how I remember him. He would appear on the late night Johnny Carson show, where he would play his banjo and sing. If you have not seen *A Touch of Class* with Glenda Jackson, do so.

What did you think of "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez"?

> {quote:title=FredCDobbs wrote:}{quote} > Very good script. Excellent acting. But the 16 mm photography stinks. It needs to be re-shot in 35 mm. Fred, unfortunately, I only saw a bit of this - but the parts I saw were unbelieveably *dark*. It was hard to see anything clearly. What was that about - or was it my old 19" TV? -
This is how desperate I am getting - I am going to give advice (which probably won't work) on how I have had luck logging in. It may have been a fluke, but it's worked a couple of times. I sign in and then *real quick*, before it goes away, I click on the PM icon on the right side of the screen. This may take a few times to "catch" it. Anyway, it's worked a few times for me - the signon connects and I am able to post. Who knows? Maybe I'm imagining things at this point. At least we have this particular thread to vent - for now.

Hey gang, I'm going to re-post this link that Bronxgirl put up a while back. Maybe some of you haven't seen it - I checked it out again this evening after reading your John Wayne rambles. It's entertaining to say the least. (Thanks, Bronxgirl) Hope this works! http://www.aeonity.com/ab/soundboards/celebrity/john-wayne.php

This is off the frustration topic, but I was under the impression that anytime a post was edited, a notation was made at the bottom of the post. If you chose to delete the notation "edited by", there was still a notation left at the bottom - "null" Is this correct? Thanks, to anyone who knows and answers. Thanks, scsu!

I can get in, and I haven't started work yet, so I will take this opportunity to bring up my concern that one of these days, this Board will disappear without warning.

Fred, that is a very nice cactus flower, but you are risking being accused of and/or erased for being "off-topic"! Fred, I felt bad all night. Please bring your cactus flower back while there is still time to edit. It will give us something nice to look at when we get locked out again! (That's what I get for refusing to use a smiley!) Please, Fred, forgive me Message was edited by: cinemafan

mongo, that photo of (my favorite) George Brent reminds me of the one of Betty Grable! Can someone explain that bathing suit? What were the straps for and what did the front of it look like? Wonder what year that was.

> {quote:title=CineMaven wrote:}{quote} > I'll bet dollars-to-donuts, that if the site is under the auspices of TCM, it will probably allow people to have multiple identities. And we know how much fun that is. In my lay mind, I was trying to figure out why the Boards were acting up so much, and I wondered whether there was a limit at CFU on how many identities could be created over there. I can't begin to imagine how much space that would take up on any system. It is mind-boggling, to say the least. And, until Kid Dabb manage to elicit a response from WebAdmin (in the middle of the night) over in Technical Issues, we were not given much information on *what the heck is the problem*.

Kyle, thanks for posting these. They are pieces of history that I did not know existed. It shows the background of activity and involvement at home (U.S.) during WWI. -

*My Journal of Trying to Log in and Failing Over and Over* scsu - I see you broke through! Better take this short window of opportunity to post - post anything! How on earth do I post when there's no "post message" button? I know there are others trying to get in here, you can see that in the "on line users". Yet, a very few posters keep on posting and posting and posting and posting. At least I am not taking this personally anymore - looks like everyone (well, almost everyone) is having this problem. WebAdmin - Patience is a virtue - but a little explanation and/or log-in tips would help our patience endure through these very trying times. Message was edited by: cinemafan

When that happened, I opened a new window and went to the board again, signed on again, posted my same message again, and that worked. I went back and closed the old window. *But Fred, why does it have to be so excruciatingly difficult?*

> Over the years it's become apparent that the company TCM contracts with to run its website employs inferior computer servers that are prone to constant partial (and occasionally total) breakdown. > > TCM should understand that website outages are far more expensive in terms of the public's diminished opinion of the site, and TCM as a whole, than the economic cost of terminating their contract with the current website provider in favor of a more reliable firm. CSjr - Very well put. As I posted elsewhere, you have to really want to be here anymore. But as much as I enjoy a challenge, this one is tough. If I spent any more time at other sites, I would just give up, as many apparently have.

Ollie, I fear we may never know. Hey, I'm able to get in again! Better take advantage of this window of opportunity to express my frustration again. It appears that all webadmin resources are being directed elsewhere nowadays. I jump when I see that someone has broken through the gridlock to get in here.

That's phure sure. Now that I'm in again, I'll try one more post and then give up for tonight. Fred, I''ll hang in here if you will. Good night to all my Friends.
