  1. Truth is always stranger than fiction - you guys hit the nail square on the head. Thanks for the late night chuckle.
  2. > > That's why this TCM Message Board is soooo important to those of us who love "old movies." We're a community here with a common bond: classic films. No need to work out your psychosis here on these threads. No need to stalk. No need to contact folks via their private e-mails unless invited. You just have to do one thing: Just come to talk about movies; Speak when you're spoken to, people will love to talk to you because you're talking about classic films. Some folks I have met in person who are from the Board didn't disappoint. My antennas didn't raise in danger, Will Robinson; I have been so thrilled and happy to have them in my sphere. Others out here on the board, I hope to never meet. But you can't like everyone. And if I don't like you, who cares...there are others for you. > > We're almost there with the 15th Anniversary week. I'm dying for my friends and family to see me. But I also can't wait to watch my Fab 15's colleagues air so I can cheer them on again. The enthusiasm is palpable. It was palpable from the Green Room and should be palpable over the airwaves. I can't wait for all of YOU to see all of US and to know that TCM did a great job in treating us well. And that we did a great job in representing you. > > Because WE are YOU! CM - You put that very eloquently. For the occasion, I am going out to buy a new batch of tapes (yes, VHS). I want to make sure I don't miss everyone. Imagine, a whole series of classic films with people we "know" (and love!) introducing them. They will be keepers. Again, I am very proud of you all for representing the rest of us fans out here - fans of TCM and these Boards.
  3. Contrast this role for Fonda with the year before and the year after - 1946 "My Darling Clementine" and l948 "Fort Apache". Great talent. I'm glad I was able to catch it.
  4. Vincent Price was creepier in this one than in any horror movie I've seen him in. Maybe this is where he got his "creepy role" start. I enjoyed seeing Henry Fonda in a role new to me.

Bringing this to the forefront in hopes of an answer. I am a very patient person, but I also want to feel that my question is being considered. (Ham, with respect, this feature may be needed). There was a major thread shut down yesterday, as the result of purposely instigated abuse. Who knows when and if it will return. Hopefully, Admin is getting to the bottom of what appears to be bogus posters, intent on disruption. I had suggested on that same thread that Board Admin open a *"Suggestions for Improving the* *Board"* thread, if only for a few days or so. This thread could be monitored intensely for that time, and would surely elicit lots of good suggestions. My first suggestion would be *to not allow users to post under multiple names.* *One to a customer.* This would also make your job easier, knowing that you cannot be everywhere all of the time. This board has lost many valuable participants over the last few years due to intentional disruption and abuse in what seems to be an orchestrated effort. I suppose we should all sit down and write to Admin and share our thoughts, but I would like to think that an open forum like this would be a place to share ideas. Ignoring the obvious reminds me of "The Emperor's New Clothes" as well as the proverbial elephant in the room. Proactive steps are way overdue, and, I believe, an obligation on TCM's part. Surely we deserve it. Respectfully, cinemafan PS - I forgot to lt you know how much I appreciate TCM and company.
  6. From my vantage point, I hear everyone loud and clear!

Can we have an update on when and if this feature will be available? My thoughts are that during the few days it was here, the abuse button itself, ironically, was abused and perhaps overloaded your system. Also, a clarification of what impersonation is. The Code of Conduct states that (1.d) "you may not give false information or intentionally hide any information when registering to play the Site". We appreciate your involvement. 8. S. - That, I don't know. You'll have to do your own research.
  9. All this reminds me of the time I tried to find out what a rebel yell sounded like - I had heard the phrase "rebel yell" many times and wasn't sure what it was. It turned out to be a real scary, disconcerting sound, designed to scare the heck out of the soon to be attacked; the early Scots had a similar sound and also, American Indians.
  10. Hey Fred, I guess you're referring to "The Last Command" which was on this morning. Having called in sick to work, I was able to see this. Believe it or not, I think it's the only movie I've seen Sterling Hayden in besides "Dr. Strangelove". What a contrast - I need to see what else is out there with him in it. One reason I love movies - and this Board - I learn things. I had been unaware of "A Deguello". It was a big deal in the movie this morning. The second video you provided seems to have a few versions, including on that is very bare bones and seems to be a single trumpet playing.

  14. Fred, I've got it on in the background because I've seen it lately, but it's made me notice how good the music is.

I am glad for your input and involvement in any improvements that can help this Board run more smoothly as it evolves. There are many counting on you. Thanks.
  17. Hello everyone. I just noticed the Report Abuse button on the side of each post. Is that new? Does anyone have any info? If you click it, there are 10 choices/reasons to report abuse. They include Profanity, Harassment, Slander, Racial Abuse and IMPERSONATION!! Also, I notice that TCM_Renee moved a thread from General Issues to General Discussions. That's the first time I've ever seen TCM-behind-the-scenes do that. I know they have locked threads, but not move them around. I'm glad to see TCM taking a more active part in these Boards. cinemafan

The thread you originally posted this in is for Technical questions concerning the message boards. > > Have a great day. TCM_ Renee - I didn't realize you worked for TCM. This is the first time I have seen a thread moved and am happy to see someone "caring" for this board. Maybe there can be less clutter with a little housekeeping here and there. cinemafan.
  19. Sad news. "Are You Being Served" is a staple for me on my local PBS station's Britcoms on Saturday nights. I am not familiar with her later work, not having access to it, but maybe someday....just as I discovered "Being Served" many years after it was filmed. She was just the right mixture of guilelessness and "allure" for Miss Brahms. She was quite a team with Mrs. Slocombe.
  20. I was serious about my rabbit ear antenna question. Are they still of any use with the new system? I want to give them away on my local freebie board. I could call Radio Shack, but I figured someone here would know.. Thanks.
  21. Thanks for your posters, Kyle. At first glance, I thought that was Shelley Winters on the Gaslight poster!
  22. > Hi, I've got two old Nikon news camera and a bunch of telephoto lenses, including my UFO-Scope, which I rigged up to shoot UFOs. I did that after I saw a big UFO about 12 years ago, and the buggers have been hiding from me ever since I rigged up the 400 mm lens with a 2 X tele extender. > Being a retired professional photographer, and a normal person, I can't tell anyone about the UFO I saw until I can get a photo of it. > The one I saw before that one, when I lived out in L.A., turned out to be the Goodyear blimp with a new color-light advertising board on it. Fred - I saw that same blimp a couple of years ago. It was a foggy night and it was going right along side the car in the distance. Scared the heck out of us until we figured it out. Please tell more about your UFO sighting! You, I might believe. Also, on topic - is there any use for rabbit ear antennas anymore? I still have a couple around.
  23. mongo - a great series of clever tub photos!
