Didn't work for Aaron Burr.

I'm reminded of the scene in It's Trad, Dad! in which the town fathers are destroying the records of the decadent music the teens like. All of a sudden, one of the older men says something to the effect of, "No, not that one!" The camera pans down to reveal... a Lawrence Welk record.

Is Dick Van Dyke still censored? Apparently not.

If Warner Bros. could make Cole Porter straight for Night and Day.... -

You mean you're not Sheldrake in real life? j/k -
I think James is engaging in some dry wit; if you've seen the end of the movie you'd get the punchline. I like the Weenie King.

There was a thunderstorm last night where I am, so the satellite was out for 15 minutes. I was looking forward to this one, too.

Send Me No Flowers (1964). Rock Hudson plays a hypochondriac married to Doris Day, living next door to best friend Tony Randall. Hubby overhears conversation from his doctor that a patient has a bad ticker, and since the conversation came right after his appointment and he's a hypochondriac, Rock naturally assumes he's the one who's dying. (He's not.) So he tries to make certain Doris will be comfortable after his death, including being able to remarry. Hudson is irritating, Randall is forced to play a drunk, and Day does a bunch of inexplicable 180s that are much too sudden. There's some nice cinematography of 1960s interiors, however. (Watch for Tony Randall's brick red kitchen appliances. Yowza.) 5/10.

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

Wasn't Zabriskie Point taken off the TCM schedule for being too adult (for lack of a better word)? I think Frtiz the Cat was another, but I don't think that came from a major studio. -

That might explain why I had so much trouble figuring out what the **** was going on in Harper. -
They'd have to show it 200 times to get to Les quatre cents coups.

Jean, JeanRoses are green. Well, at least that rhymes. (Sorry, I don't care much for that song.)

Either that, or Coup Gulager.

I figured you were going to talk about the movie Crisis, which ends with a coup d'état. Cary Grant is quite good in the movie.

I wonder if he means "gold-digger"... or that other well-known word. --Glenda Farrell, Girl Missing

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

NB: The TCM schedule (and my box guide) have a scheduling conflict with the running times. Reefer Madness is apparently 65 minutes, but in a one-hour slot, from 2:00 to 3:00 AM. Marihuana is only 57 minutes, and allegedly in the 3:00 AM to 4:00 AM slot, but that doesn't get us completely back on track. Cocaine Fiends does, since it's 68 minutes in a 75-minute slot, from 4:00 AM to 5:15 AM. TCM then does the maddening thing of putting two shorts in a 45-minute slot, but listing both of them as starting at 5:15 AM. (This practice is a bigger problem when they run a bunch of one-reelers in prime time as part of a salute to silents, or something similar.) -
I prefer to take the beautiful with the bad.

Debbie Reynolds would like a word with you.

Not if you're not on Windows. I'm using Linux, so my current keyboard configuration doesn't have that TM sign. Alt+V, however, produces the ® sign. (I picked a keyboard layout that makes it easier to type the accented characters for most Western European languages, so it's easier to type the German ß or the French ç.) For stuff the current keyboard layout can't do, I'd have to go to other solutions. (The word processor does have a character map, for example. That's where I found the ™ character.) -
