Wasn't Joan Fontaine Star of the Month back in 2007?
Actually, after a bit of research, it seems to have been November 2005. (I suppose I could have looked for the list of SOTMs that gets posted here from time to time.)

> "Impossible is not French!" A great line to deploy when you aren't getting cooperation or good service in Paris!
I've had Frenchmen call me a savage because I only took half an hour for lunch. Hell, Ms. Barham, the only reason the French take two hours for lunch is because the service in their restaurants is lousy. :-)

Former NFL player Don Beebe also pronounced the final E.
Perhaps Johnny Sheffield was being too polite to correct you if you were wrong.

> I mean if Durbin is great than what term should be used for Judy Garland?
Overrated.
(Sorry, I'm probably the one person who doesn't like Garland's singing. She could act, as shown in movies like *The Clock*, but I get the impression that every time she's singing, she looks as though she's trying too hard.)

I'm sorry, but the "31 Days of Oscar" site is Flash-only, which for me is an immediate failure. The Flash took forever to load, and was then just a link to enter the real site.

> I DON'T like Singing in the Rain, and it is ok for me to not like Singing in the Rain.
It's also OK for enough other people to like *Singin' in the Rain* enough to make it one of the most popular movies on TCM.

See, if I were the TCM Programmer, I'd think seriously about programming tentpoles like this often, just to watch people freak out on the message boards. :-)

> while *A.I. Artificial Intelligence* is too cold and uninvolving. I just didn't care what happened to to the cyborg-child.
In that case, it would be paired well with *Member of the Wedding*. Then again, I did sort of care what happened to the Julie Harris character: I wanted Ethel Waters to smack her into the next state.

> I am just watching *The Sign of the Cross* tonight.
Wait until you get to the scene with Joyzelle seducing Elissa Landi with a lesbian dance. :-)

> Now, there IS a difference between calling someone a "pompous a--"(like the self-censor?) and saying someone HAS a "pondorous a--".
I think the word you want for the latter is [steatopygous|http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/steatopygous]. :-)

There's got to be a morning after
If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine
Let's keep on lookin' for the light

I think it was Dorothy Parker who said of Katharine Hepburn, "She runs the gamut of emotions from A to B."

[TCMs page on the movie|http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/66823/Adventures-of-Robinson-Crusoe/] claims that it's airing at 8:00 PM on February 21 and 4:00 AM on Sunday April 29 (that latter is probably early Monday morning).
(BTW: Why do apostrophes in the link text cause the formatting to go haywire?)

My DirecTV box guide said it was the Luis Bu?uel version, as did the printable monthly schedule.
It's also supposed to show up in February; Dan O'Herlihy was nominated for Best Actor if memory serves.
I figured I'd watch the February showing anyhow, since I had my morning routine for today planned around *Ruby Gentry*, which at least was good for a few laughs.

> The "complete" portfolio contains 69 portraits. (I don't know how it could end up with an "odd" number of 69. Was there a "tie" in one of the early years?)
Fredric March in *Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde* and Wallace Beery in *The Champ*.

> Now, one who comes to mind for me is Carol Channing in "Thoroughly Modern Millie." I love this movie, and Ms. Channing is, as always, a delight. But her role seems to be unimportant to the over-all plot and doesn't even begin to display her tremendous talent. Some critics have suggested that her nomination was a peace offering for her being passed over for "Hello, Dolly". Any thoughts on this?
Yes. *Thoroughly Modern Millie* was nominated at the 40th Academy Awards (films of 1967). *Hello Dolly* was nominated at the 42d Academy Awards (films of 1969). It's hard to believe that Channing was nominated for *Thoroughly Modern Millie* because she had been snubbed for *Hello Dolly* two years later.

Sounds like [*Boeing Boeing*|http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058981/] starring Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis.

*When a Man Loves John Barrymore* sounds like an interesting idea for a movie.

You mean you don't like *The Story of Mankind* ? ;-)

Or this scene:

> Hi, this is the TCM classic movie news for January.
Remember to include the "Hi" in that intro. :-)
More seriously, those "TCM classic movie news" pieces are advertising/advertainment as well. I'm sure when TCM includes a report on a movie from Universal or Paramount that it's in exchange for the rights to show something from one of their libraries.
Ditto things like the mentions of the Audie Murphy westerns collection, or the Jean Arthur comedy collection.

I figured maybe he meant Richard _Conte_.

My uncle got to meet Jessica Lange and the rest of the crew when the production of *Tootsie* came "upstate" (well, Kingston isn't really upstate) to do those scenes.
Grandma had the best reaction: "Who's Jessica Lange?" :-)

HEADS UP! ORIGINAL STATE FAIR TONIGHT.

> Some of the carnivals had side-shows with dancing girls, and the story I heard was that they had to pay off the local sheriff or police chief, to let them get away with the skimpy costumes.
Otherwise they'd end up like Joan Crawford in *Flamingo Road*. :-)
